Mad Dragon's Hell
Chapter 1: Growth

Chapter 1: Growth

After having some fun with his sister and making sure she understood who was in control, he gave her one of the corpses and ate the remaining ones himself. Thanks to the food she healed, though her wing didn’t grow back.

‘Useless, she won’t even be able to fly. Well, at least she can act as a decoy. Now, time to sort the knowledge in my head’

He checked to be sure his sister really fell asleep, and wasn’t trying to trick him into feeling secure so she could backstab him. His worries were for nothing though, she was completely exhausted after the two battles, and seemed to be fast asleep.

‘What a weakling, anyway, though she may make things easier, I will have to watch my back and we will have to hunt more for the two of us. Hmm, I wonder if I should have just killed her? Ah well, lets just try it like this for now, I can always kill her later if she gets annoying or tries to betray me’

After this, he laid himself down at the other side of the nest and began to go through the knowledge in his head. He already knew he was a Nether Dragon, a type of True Dragon, but wat exactly did that mean? By concentrating, he somehow knew he knew all of this because all True Dragons and most Greater dragons had something they called Ancestral knowledge, which contained most basic knowledge they needed to survive and grow stronger. Most dragons didn’t really need this since they get raised by their parents, but for dragons like the Nether Dragons and others where they leave their children alone so only the strongest ones survive and are able to grow up, this was an extremely helpful tool. At this moment he also realized he and his sister were able to communicate in the dragon language thanks to this tool.

Snickering to himself, he checked the rest of the knowledge. True Dragons are the highest class of dragons, they each had mastery over at least one type of magic, and most of the time also had special abilities and appearances, they are also stronger and could live longer than normal dragons, almost never dying of a natural cause, though because of extremely low fertility rates, fights among their clans and a chance of their children to be Greater dragons, they were slowly dying out. Greater dragons are the normal dragons with 4 feet, 2 wings and a lizard like appearance, they don’t always have magic, and usually live up to a thousand years. Lesser dragons are the result of dragons mating with other species, they are generally weaker and there is a huge variety of them; wyverns, drakes, dragonkin,… . He found out there were only a few Nether Dragons on the plane he was born, almost none. This was because Nether Dragons usually live in the Demon Plane, because of this fact, their appearance, powers and fickle nature, they were often seen as demons who shaped themselves after dragons. Despite the discrimination they faced from mortal races they still guarded the gates to the Demon Plane, keeping back the demon hordes together with the other ‘demonic’ dragons. Because their traditions which most of the time resulted in only one of the cubs in each nest surviving, they also get glares from other dragons, but it’s not like they care, according to them dying young is much better than being too weak and getting captured and toyed with by demons.

Looking at what demons did with captured dragons, he wholeheartedly agreed with that mindset. He got a little bit impatient by the history lessons though, and quickly looked for ways of getting stronger. First of all, eating strong creatures also made somebody stronger, dragons were an exception though, instead of gaining a fixed amount of strength when eating a dragon, you gained strength proportional to your current strength. For example; you eat 10kg Greater dragon meat, your strength increases by 0,1%, no matter how strong or how weak you are, you would get that 0,1%. This is only when you are talking about Greater dragons though, lesser dragons still give you a fixed amount, with True Dragons on the other hand, you had to eat almost their whole body but you would get a massive boost. Because of this, a lot of strong monsters and people tried to kill and eat dragons, the risk was well worth it.

When he learned this, he wondered why he was still the same, he did after all eat 4 of his siblings and one egg. At that moment, he learned that to process such a large boost as he received, your body would temporarily be put into a comatose state. He suddenly felt sleepy, panicking, he fought against it, but in the end he still passed out.

When he woke up, he felt his sister standing right next to his head, immediately, he jumped up and grabbed her neck with his claw, slammed her down on the ground and pinned her down. He completely caught her by surprise and she couldn’t react at all, then he realized he just easily overpowered his sibling who should be around the same strength as him. While still keeping her pinned against the ground, he examined his own body. Originally, he was around as big as a cat or a small dog, but now, he was as big as a wolf. His body also felt more efficient, with stronger bones and scales and denser muscles, he also felt something strange in him and his throat was hoarse, he would have to examine that later. For now, he looked down on his sister, who looked both scared and in awe. Angered by her actions, he asked her a question.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“So, what were you doing right next to me while I was sleeping?”

“I-I was s-scared something was wrong with y-you.”

“Explain”

“I f-fell u-unconscious b-because I needed to h-h-heal after getting w-wounded badly, so when I s-saw you u-unconscious I thought you were w-wounded t-too.”

“And why would that scare you?”

To this, she weakly fluttered her remaining wing.

“Ah yes, you are pathetically weak and incapable of running from bigger predators, that might indeed be a problem…”

While he was pondering over what to do next, he noticed her looking at him hopefully.

“What?”

“D-Do you have some f-food?” she said with a hint of hesitation, “I’m r-really h-hungry..”

He looked at her with a flabbergasted expression

‘Did she just look me dead in the eyes and ask me for food? The audacity of this lazy bitch…’

“I’m sorting through my Ancestral knowledge first, you should do so too, after I’m finished, I’m going to explore the place a bit, we’ll see if there’s any food, and even if there is, you aren’t getting anything until I’m full, got it?”

When he said this, he glared at her, daring her to oppose him.

“Y-Yes, I-I’ll follow you!”

After this, he just ignored her and resumed going through his Ancestral knowledge. He found out his hoarse throat was most likely due to him developing a dragon breath, though trying to shoot one just ended up as him breathing out roughly, weirding out his sister. After that embarrassing moment, he moved on to the strange feeling in his body, which turned out to be the beginning of a mana affinity, following this, he found out about the different kind of magic. There were 4 categories; elemental magic, psychic magic, arcane magic and inborn magic.

Elemental magic was about manipulating different magical elements; earth, water, wind, fire, light and dark, they also had a lot of subcategories and variations.

Psychic magic affected abstract things like the mind and the soul or affected the real world with nothing more than your willpower.

Arcane magic had endless possibilities and effects, but is also the only one that always needed an incantation.

Inborn magic is a unique magic some creatures are born with, like the miasma of the undead, the demonic magic of the demons,… , the Ancestral knowledge of dragons could also be considered inborn magic.

Seeing how strong magic could be, he wondered what kind of magic he would be able to use, and was eager to grow stronger and find out. For the moment though, he could only wait. Then he learned about the differences between creatures; monsters mostly attack everything that isn’t the same species as them and usually are mutations from normal animals, magical creatures are intelligent monsters who don’t let their instincts rule them, sometimes capable of communication and they can usually use some kind of magic(dragons are in this category btw), demons are creatures that are born evil, they seek the destruction of the other planes and try to exterminate all other creatures, humanity is the unity between the ‘sentient’ species, though they are usually fighting each other, good ‘unity’ they have, they are mostly humanoid, undead are grudges and regrets which then inhabit and control corpses which still have some mana in them, gaining their own consciousness and changing their mana into miasma, contrary to common belief though, they aren’t actually evil, while the older ones know better, most young ones are just jealous of the living, ad on that the hostility and disgust most living creatures feel to them, and you get the situation people are now in: a three way war between monsters/magical creatures, humanity working together with other magical creatures and the undead fighting on their own, only banding together when they fight demons or creatures who invade their plane.

At that moment, his stomach started to rumble, all the food he ate had been consumed during his sudden growth, so he had to find more now. First, he started with exploring the nest they were in, a spacious cave with one small entrance. When he went through the hole in the wall, he walked for a little bit until he saw actual sunlight instead of having to rely on his dark-vision. Cautiously, he approached the exit, warry of a predator lying in wait. When he looked outside, he saw a small open space with some grass, a small river on the other side of the open space, and behind that, a forest. After he made sure he didn’t sense anything dangerous, he exited the cave and looked around and behind him. The open place was more or less round, surrounded by a forest on all sides, behind him, the ground went sharply up, likely the side of a mountain or something similar.

At that moment, the leaves on one side of the clearing rustled, and he immediately shot back into the narrow cave. When he cautiously looked outside again, he saw a big rabbit with a horn on its head nibble on the grass. Knowing it was weaker than him, he tried to sneak up on it, which obviously failed. When it noticed him though, instead of running away, it immediately charged at him. He jumped to the side to dodge the horn, and swiped at its hind legs. The now incapacitated rabbit tried to struggle, but he quickly bit its neck, finishing it of. As soon as it was dead, he started to eat it, soon not even bones remained, everything was eaten by the ravenous dragon.

Now a little more confident in himself, he explored a little bit in the forest, but couldn’t find anything else. Disappointed, he tried to fly in the clearing, but couldn’t properly lift of. Suddenly, he got an idea and climbed in a tree. When he arrived at the top, he spread his wings and jumped. After successfully gliding down, he repeated this process a few times while trying to keep himself in the air by beating his powerful wings. When he got the hang of it, he tried it again from the ground, and with a run-up he was able to lift of. Satisfied with these results, he went back in the cave to pick his sister up, preparing to hunt more.
