Prologue: The Devils Of Rhode Island

Prologue: The Devils Of Rhode Island

In the darkness, of a full of fear night, a man's shaky voice covered the entire room, shouting loudly and echoing.

"You have to believe me, doctor! I'm telling you that I saw something there!"

"Mister Takuza, I have told you that you have to calm down, in order for me to understand. There is no need to panic if you are going, to be honest with me."

They were two men, sitting in front of each other, and a table that cut between them.

It was a Psychiatry clinic of Rhode Island, located to the southwest of the city. It was a medical building that the people who lived in Hoptinkon street, visited regularly. It was a very important place, since the people of that street saw many unexplained events and had to regain their mental stability.

Just like the night, he was going through.

The sound of the air conditioner was working loudly, making it the only loudest thing in the room. It was so distracting, every time they have stopped talking, became a moment they have fully dived into their own thought. So on, The horrifying fear that the patience carried in his voice, and the doctor hitting the notebook, with his pen, over and over again.

The orange wavy hair, of the patience, was getting back and forth every time the air hit him. And half of it entered the inner side of his face, while his hands covered it since he was too scared to even lookup. He was just looking at the ground. He was in a frozen state as he saw something life torturing and never forget that moment.

And being a middle-aged man, that almost sat in front of somebody for minutes on a scorching summer night, it made the doctor sweat much more. His black short hair was still in place, but he was sweating, and the glasses were slightly slipping on his face.

He was a man that took good care of himself, but not that much for the mind-tiring sessions he had gone through.

Matter of fact seeing his patient go over his crazy thoughts, and losing his mind just in front of him.

So he then put his glasses, back on his nose, and fixed its position, the man asked, with a much deeper voice tone.

"Now tell me, what exactly happened that night?"

He used a talking style that was suggestive and effective, unless he have gone too far to just be informative. He didn't want to scare the patient. His only goal was to get answers, but he knew that by the second it would get harder.

The man was shaking, looking at the ground with wide-opened eyes, and just with pure fear, he was stuttering.

"That night, it was just there, eating those... Old people."

"And what was your job to do with that elderly people?"

"When I was sent to have a conversation with Mister Suzuki and Miss Suzuki, I was only told that I have to talk with their house selling the business and for a program. They were living, in a shed in the forest. A small wooden shed. And they.. They just have.. got slaught-"

The man leaned forward as if he was going to puke.

"Mister Takuza! Please calm down! If you continue to be this hard on yourself, it wouldn't be good for both of us. Now take a good breath."

It had reached a limit where he could stand back any longer. He was moaning, clenching, half crying. Dozens of things flew through his head. But just to prove what to himself? What was that he saw there last night?

He stretched her lips and chin with such disturbance and continued talking with agony and fear,

"As I was talking with them, about something, something about gardens... It appeared.."

"What appeared?"

"The Monster."

"Monster?"

"With its octopus-like tentacles, it pierced through their body. Threw their heart and inner organs to the ground. It stopped the old man's heart. Right when I was talking with him. Just.... in the middle of it."

"Please just continue. We have very much valuable information now."

"I saw their death, very slowly and processing. Their pupils, and the lights in them going out. The blood flowing through their clean clothes and not even screaming once. Their death was so... fast. They were innocent! Innocent!"

"And, what was the exact thing you saw?"

"It was the worst feeling that a human being could feel. Worst thing I could see. It was disgusting."

The man looked into the doctor's eyes once more and added,

"A black silhouette. A dark, leechy, gigantic monster, filled the entire shed. It was reaching... For me, just after it took two lives. It was... coming for me."

Everything that he heard that night, came to his mind.

The disgusting, decaying, and reappearing sound of the beast screeching repeatedly as if it were a weapon has never left his mind since that day. Reappearing, again and again, it turned into a living nightmare. And in addition, A singular eye, among dozens, looked right into his soul. That revolting leech, looked into his eyes in a way that would go deep into his heart and leave a mark forever.

And that line stayed with him,

"Do you like what you see? I'm sure when you came here tonight, a pitiful human being like you didn't think he would have such a scary thing happen.

But don't worry, you don't have to be afraid of me. It was time for these old people, and I did it because they deserved it. They knew things they didn't need to know.

Just like you.

Maybe you deserve it, too. After all, if you look at things that you shouldn't see, they become part of you."

He lifted his head right where there was ventilation and where there was an air conditioner. And the second he did, he uttered a big scream, pointing his finger right behind the doctor's chair.

"That's it! It's right there!"

The doctor turned his head slightly. The idea of the monster actually being right behind him, scared him just like his patience.

"Hehehehe.."

And just as horrifying it is, it was actually there.

The leechy monster, that was smiling, or grinning to be exact, slowly approached them, making sure that they know in danger.

There was nothing they could do, other than waiting for sudden death.

And that night, ended with screams, and the disturbing sounds, of The Rhode Island Devil.
