Episode 5: A New Journey

Episode 5: A New Journey

This morning I rise with Leeda, taking her to her new school and dropping her off before checking my slates bounty list. One bounty standing out from the others, a Lyka woman wanted for slave trafficking. I'll just go ahead and claim that one.

Bounty info: Lyka female named Sheilka Nera age 23 Terran years. Known slave trafficker, usually armed and dangerous. Never travels alone.

In light of recent events that have impacted myself and the others I think I'll be the one handling this one. So I return home and arm myself, double checking my armor, sword, and bow I head out. I take to the wing and head out west towards the wilderness where Sheilka typically seems to run.

As I fly I find myself occasionally going back to that horrific event. The fear I fealt at facing the unknown, the hate I fealt at finding out they were not demons but slavers. It seems so long ago already yet in reality it was only about a week.

I'm soon pulled from my thoughts when I notice a compound on the horizon that is not on my slates maps. I take the time to fly over and gather information as I do. At least a dozen guards in plain view, three buildings, one of which has a ship landed nearby. I decide that this is food enough before taking out my bow and landing in the trees.

I begin to make my approach from the south, from this direction there's a gate with two guards on lookout. The wall itself not designed to have patrols upon it. Once I notice the guards are distracted I loose my first arrow catching one in the throat, they drop to their back as they gurgle and drown slowly in their own blood. Their friend looks at them just in time to see them writhing on the ground and clawing at their neck in desperation as they choke and cough up dangerous amounts of blood. Before he can react and call for help an arrow catches him in the back of his head, the steel tip dragging grey matter and his eye out one socket as he drops to the dirt face first, blood pooling around his head.

I walk up and pull my arrows free unceremoniously, the half drowned man can do little more then watch as my taloned foot wraps around his neck and I rip half of everything out, finishing him off then and there. Two down, and I'm far from done here. However it seems I've been noticed already,

Several bangs and pops ring out as I move into some cover to avoid their weapons fire. Knowing my options are limited here I decide to put my bow away and prepare an electric beam in one hand and regeneration spell in the other. Happy with my choices I step out of cover and quickly run forward towards more cover while firing concentrated bursts of lightning at my foes as I do.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Once in cover I check over myself, my armor has a few dents and dings but the enchantments for unbreaking helped to keep me safe, unfortunate not everything is protected as I focus on healing my wings. Seems like they do in fact present a pretty target. I peek out just long enough to notice two things, the first being that my lightning spell did nothing, so they must have some form of protection from that. And secondly they are close enough for me to use my fire, my specialty as it were.

With this information I choose to forgo my electric beam spell and use a barrier spell with my regeneration, and like a dragon of myth I step out and breath a white hot blast of flame, slowly imolating the slavers until nothing remains but ash, bone, and half molten metal lumps of former weapons.

As I move past my work I hear the ships engines start up, so I take to the wing and fly that way. Drawing my sword and landing within just before the cargo ramp closes I catch the first guard there off guard and lop his head off in one swift motion as I sprint past him into the cockpit and drive my sword through the chest of the second and only other guard on this ship.

The pilot Sheilka slowly starts to rise only for me to pin her to a wall with my sword at her neck. She then chooses to speak in a frightened tone. "Th-the bounty is higher if im..." And I cut her off, literally, as I slowly drag my sword across her neck, as her screams of pain and terror get slowly drowned out with gurgling, drowning as she continues to try to scream until the end when I hold her head against the wall, her body dropping to the floor beneath freely. I toss her head next to her body and take a picture with my slate before leaving, letting the ships engines run as I return to the guard post and silently collect my bounty before returning home.

Once home I start cleaning my weapons and armor as my father walks in with Leeda in tow. Leeda immigrants going to start what's called homework as my father walks up to me. "How was it today?" He asks in a soft tone.

I answer without looking away from what I'm doing. "It got pretty exciting and I took some hits but nothing I couldn't deal with." And I show him my chestplate with several small dents in it.

He takes it and rubs his hand over one. "An easy fix. Any injuries?" He asks in a more concerned voice as he looks down at me.

"Very minor, my healing magic was enough to keep me going." I say as I finish polishing my sword. "Oh, I ordered something for dinner. Apparently it's fairly popular here. A food called pizza.
