Lord of a Small Town
Chapter 1: The Lord System

Chapter 1: The Lord System

"Jay, take over this town for me, strive for wealth". As his Father lied their, on his death bed, all he could still think about was profits.

This repulsed me. My father was no longer the man I knew, he changed.

At the age of 18, I'll strive to be better, and I'll strive towards greatness, this town will prosper under my ruling.

As his Father died, a light shone down of Jay.

[You are the successor of Will Cott, you will now be recognised as the Lord of Haven, and will be given the Lord System]

I was confused, however this is something that I sort of expected. After my Father inherited Haven from my Grandmother, something changed in him, he had a better eye for talent, however these forms of talent were used for things like Gambling and Drug Creations. Haven, which once strived for greatness, was horrendous.

This town now had around 100 commoners who were on the verge of starvation, the birth rates were nill as hygiene wasn't priority. The town was around medium scale originally, however, a lot of buildings turned to dust overtime as they were unkept, which led this city to fall into the Small category.

I'm only 18, yet I'm aware that I will do a better job than my Father, and this will begin with the System.

I opened the System, and it appeared infront of me. There were only a few options, which consisted of:

[Construction]

[Magic Development]

[Trading System]

[City Status]

[Civilian Status]

Under these options, there was a notice saying due to the size and status of my town, there were certain locks on the system, which was fine by me.

I went through each status and these were my findings.

[Construction] brings up different structures which can be built, and says what is needed. An example being a School. There needed to be certain amount of logs, metal, bricks and employees. However, what was strange was the need of someone with Talent in Construction, being around Level 3. So, Villagers need to be taught things so they can be built? That would explain why Haven fell so deep and never escaped poverty for a long time.

[Magic Development] brought up the basics of Magic such as Summoning Magic, Elemental Magic, and Reinforcment Magic. These were the three basics of Magic, and I couldn't go further than that. For my Townspeople to learn these magics, certain requirements were needed. An example of Elemental Magic, there needed to be a Level 5 Sorcerer, and a Magic School built, otherwise it wasn't possible to teach civilians magic, only certain people would be able to due to things like Talent and Aptitude.

[Trading System] showed a large map of our surroundings and other Kingdoms, which showed how friendly we were with them. There were only two other Kingdoms in the Maps radius and they were relatively small, and they focused in Farming. They were neutral with us as my Father never attempted to try and have exports/imports.

[City Status] was astounding. it showed the status of the city itself.

[Farming: 1/10]

[Mining: 0/10]

[Education: 0/10]

[The people of Haven are malnourished and struggling to keep themselves alive. The death rate is way too high, including the birth rate. In 5 years there will be nobody alive in Haven].

The System truly showed how horrible the circumstances were here.

[Civilian Status] was similar to [City Status].

[Nobody here has any talent, they only have potential that hasn't been touched. There are no figure heads like Politician to keep the peace in order, and there's no Guards. Currently, nobody in Haven has any speciality].

I could only sigh.

Instead of sitting here, doing nothing. I gathered everyone up in the City Square.

----------------------------------------

"Hello everyone, I'm the son of Will Cott, Jay Cott!". I shouted my name, to be met with nothing, no one clapped as nobody had the energy to.

"I'm planning to change everything in Haven, starting with Farming. If there are any Farmers willing to tend the Fields, please stay here, you'll be met with some equipment and a meal to get yourself going. Children are not allowed to take part, however they are allowed to stay for Meals. Everyone else please go back to what you are doing".

I used Meals to entice everyone. It was very harsh, however I had no choice. Nobody else would sign up. Around 25 people left, and all of the 20 children stayed, aswell as 55 adults, both men and children. They obviously weren't Farmers, but that was fine by me.

I ran down from my podium and handed out bread and soup.

Before my Father died, he ordered a lot of soup as he knew he was ill, so he wanted to go out comfortably, however he never shared these soups with anyone.

The System gave me a weird ability which could let me see everybody's Talent and Potential. As I handed people Soup and Bread, aswell as wooden farming tools, there were 5 people who had quite a bit of Potential, and they all had one thing in common, they had the potential for Magic, three of them were adept in Reinforcment Magic, whilst the other two were adept in Elemental Magic. Out of the five people, three of them were children, and the other two were middle aged. Of course, other people had potential too, but those things were in Farming, Mining, and even Blacksmithing. I currently couldn't do anything for them at the moment, so they had to realise their potential on their own.

As I handed Soup out, I put the five people aside and asked them to wait here until everyone was fed.

"You five, please follow me inside my home. This is regarding your Potential".

Their faces weren't exactly nervous, it seemed that because I gave them a meal, they somehow trusted me.

As we walked into my home, I turned around and gave them a book.

"Children, you are both adept in Elemental Magic, please find your aptitude with the help of these books. Whilst you men are adept in Reinforcment Magic, take these books". I handed it to them with a smile.

"What If I don't want to learn Magic?". A small girl said with a powerful look.

"Unfortunately, there isn't much a of a choice. My Father made Haven into a mess and I have to clean it up. It starts with basic things like Mining, Farming and whatnot, but one day, we'll need to develop into a certain area so people come here, and I want that to be Magic".

In this world known as Alheim, there wasn't many Magic Kingdoms, infact there was one, however it wasn't profitable as their research required a lot of money, so they changed into Technology instead, leaving Magic behind. I want to fill that gap.

"Fine. I'll help you I guess by learning Magic, come here Moe, let's go". The young girl shuffled her younger brother with her, outside of the house.

"Uhm, so we're adept in Reinforcment Magic?". There were three young men, who were practically skin and bones.

"Yes! I can't say how much potential you have just yet, but it's there, and frankly I don't know much about Reinforcement Magic myself, so try and read the book".

The three men were delighted, they had always been treated like trash, so it was crazy to finally be treated like a human.

"Thank you so much!".

"Oh also, my name is William. Those two young'uns there were my children, sorry for their attitude. They've been struggling since they were born so they don't trust easily, but I assure you they mean well".

"It's okay, and I'm sorry too. My Father started all of this". I looked down whilst looking like I was in pain. I truly felt bad for these people, they went through a lot of suffering.

I pushed them out, and finally, it was my turn to learn Magic too.
