Yanis's messenger brought her invitation: inviting Viscount Galaxia to the opening ceremony of the Delauber clothing factory.
A factory built in just over half a month? In a world where productivity is relatively backward, this is an astonishing speed!
The next morning, Roland arrived at Delauber early. As soon as he dismounted, two temple knights came to greet him, one to take his horse and the other to lead him to the site. Despite Roland's wide experience, he was amazed by the sight before him.
This is not a clothing factory, it was practically an industrial park.
Seeing Roland's barely concealed astonishment, Yanis laughed happily, "How about it, Lord Galaxia, are you satisfied with this factory?"
"Of course! It far exceeds my expectations. Yanis, thank you for your generosity."
Roland was not flattering, he was being genuine; he originally thought Yanis would set up a larger handicraft workshop here, providing about a hundred jobs, which would support hundreds of families. These families' consumption could stimulate commerce, entering a virtuous cycle.
However, Yanis directly established a large factory, the kind that could employ at least a thousand workers.
How did she manage to build it in half a month?
Yanis smiled proudly and said, "Wondering about the secret to its quick completion? Follow me!"
She led the way, with Roland following behind. For some reason, he felt Yanis was different today than usual. Perhaps she saw the light of victory? But he didn't know how Luet would respond. He didn't want to disrupt the balance to win or lose.
Yanis took Roland to the back of the site, pointing to a huge machine and said, "This is the secret."
Roland was so surprised he was speechless. This was a genuine excavator, very different in appearance from modern industrial excavators, but very similar in function.
As Roland was dumbfounded, a short driver popped his head out of the cabin, removed his sunglasses, and waved at Yanis with a smile.
"Boss, my work is done, can I leave now?"
"Mr. Grogers, please wait a moment. Lord Galaxia seems quite interested in your machinery, why don't you introduce it to him?"
"Sure, no problem! Grogers is at your service!"
The dwarf slid down the ladder, standing in front of Roland and Yanis.
He looked up at Roland, unable to hide his admiration, "My goodness, you're even taller than my boss!"
Roland smiled and asked, "Mr. Grogers, are you a dwarf?"
"What dwarf?! That's a derogatory term! Would you be happy if I called you a naked ape? Remember, we are the proud Floresiensis race! We are spirits of the earth and close relatives of the giants!"
As Roland was dubious, contents related to the Floresiensis race flashed through his mind.
"Search completed, the Floresiensis race and giants have a 78.9% overlap in bloodline, considered distant relatives, they diverged into different branches during the evolution of the second era."
Roland was surprised at how useful Book of Eras was. It's like a built-in encyclopedia, a super encyclopedia that covers seven eras.
This book is...priceless. The kind of book you wouldn't sell no matter how much money was offered.
Roland chuckled, "I've heard of the Floresiensis race. During the Titan Era, your leader Buquin had a pleasant chat with the Titan King in front of the Meteorite Throne."
This time, it was Grogers's turn to be surprised. He stared at Roland with his mouth agape, shocked.
"Mr. Galaxia, your knowledge is profound! I've little knowledge about this history myself; I only knew that my ancestor had met the Titan King, but not the details."
The grumpy dwarf mechanic's eyes sparkled with excitement; he rubbed his hands together, somewhat embarrassedly asking,
"Lord Galaxia, where did you learn all this?"
"From books. My family's library is quite large, with many books."
The dwarf mechanic, who had planned to leave quickly, stood rooted to the spot, his eyes twinkling with stars.
"Um, Lord Galaxia, do you still need construction machinery here?"
"Well, I am a noble after all; I'm not too concerned about these matters."
Seeing the dwarf mechanic's eager expression, Roland smiled and asked, "Would you like to read related books?"
Grogers jumped up excitedly, nearly as tall as Roland.
Roland casually caught the dwarf's belt and gently put him down.
"Mr. Grogers, thank you for your construction machinery, I'm somewhat interested in it. Would you like to be my guest at my castle and tell me about the principles of construction machinery? In return, my library is open to you for free."
If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.
"Open forever?" The dwarf's eyes reddened, greedily asking.
"Of course, forever. I am a generous lord."
Yanis looked up at the sky; she didn't want to debunk Roland in front of others, but she couldn't stand his nonsense. Since arriving here, she had already spent seventy thousand gold coins to help him build the factory. This is the generosity Lord Galaxia brought her.
Seeing Roland and the dwarf chat happily, she felt somewhat superfluous and inexplicably annoyed. She really wanted to scold Roland to his face.
She humphed as a reminder, "Lord Galaxia, the ribbon-cutting ceremony requires your presence; it's about time."
Roland smiled and nodded, "Alright, let's attend the ceremony first."
The ceremony was simple and not too long.
After the ceremony, the dwarf mechanic ignored Yanis, chuckling as he cast longing looks towards Roland.
"Lord Galaxia, please ride my mechanical motorcycle, let's go for a spin!"
"Mr. Grogers, you've surprised me again. What are we waiting for? I'll lead the way, let's go!"
Grogers found a sidecar motorcycle from the large box, quickly started the motor, and without waiting for him to call, Roland had already jumped into the car, giving a thumbs up.
"Let's go!"
Grogers pressed the throttle to the max, screaming "Woohoo" as they shot off like a bolt of lightning.
Watching the two men laugh like children, Yanis was speechless.
Hey, hey, you two jerks, at least say something before you leave!
Men were boys before they grew up; they could be really childish, for instance, when it comes to driving cars.
After crossing through the years, Roland had yet to come into contact with dwarf machinery of this high-end caliber. This reminded him of Earth.
Although the craftsmanship of the dwarf mechanic's motorcycle was somewhat rough, with strange noises completely different from the engine roar he had heard before crossing over; although the motorcycle's speed wasn't even as fast as a good horse, let alone him; although the country lanes were full of potholes, bouncing and jolting, making for a terrible riding experience; although the dwarf, yelling in his native language, was not an excellent driver.
But what of it! Since arriving in the world of Tiamat, he had never ridden a modern vehicle again.
No man can resist the romance of cars, at least Roland couldn't.
However, happiness was ultimately fleeting. After galloping a few miles, Roland grew weary.
He just wanted to get off now.
Damn dwarf, he designed the seat based on his own height and buttock size, forcing tall Roland to curl up and nest there.
The long-lost joy was found, but only for a short while.
This motorcycle was like the old games he played in his childhood, classic, but unplayable due to poor optimization.
But directly asking to get off seemed somewhat impolite, and might even irritate the quick-tempered dwarf. He rubbed his somewhat sore waist and instantly thought of a reason.
"Mr. Grogers, your car is really fast, I want to race you!"
Grogers's eyes lit up, laughing, "How shall we compete?"
"My running speed is very fast; I want to race against your motorcycle, the finish line is my castle."
"YOHO, alright, but don't regret it! Wait, we can't just race for nothing, if I win, you must allow me to copy the books recording our race's history!"
"No problem!"
Roland nodded and smiled. With a push of the handrails, he soared into the air, quickly applying "Wind Spell", "Acceleration Spell", "Swift Step", and many other buffs to himself before hitting the ground running.
Seeing Roland quickly pull away, Grogers pressed the accelerator to the limit. The power furnace emitted a piercing sharp noise, the power ran at maximum, and the speed soared. This was the first time he had sprinted with all his might.
The dwar rode the motorcycle wildly along the country road. The uneven road became his biggest obstacle.
As he cursed in his native language, he adjusted his posture and accelerated madly. He quickly caught up to Roland, and as he passed him, he proudly made a face at Roland before disappearing in a cloud of dust.
Roland was amused. The dwarf engineer, with his white beard, didn't have a bit of an old man's steadiness, but was instead acting like a naughty boy!
He didn't know if Grogers had given it his all, anyway, he hadn't. He was just uncomfortable sitting and looking for a reason to get off. It was not a must-win situation.
Dwarf engineers were quite rare; he would rather have a dwarf alchemy laboratory in his territory than win a matter of pride.
He had to lose, but not by too much, otherwise, the old fellow might find it boring.
Adjusting his speed constantly, Roland "sweated profusely" as he followed behind the motorcycle, struggling to keep up.
Roland's goal was simple, to entertain the old dwarf and keep him around.
The two continued to chase, alternating leads, quickly arriving at the castle gate. Seeing the castle door wide open, Grogers didn't bother to slow down, charging straight towards the door.
Roland shouted from behind, "Mr. Grogers, please stop at the door, that's fine."
Since he said so, Grogers felt it was impolite to insist, so he tried to slow down, preparing to stop the motorcycle at the door.
However, it seemed the old dwarf was unlucky today; the motorcycle hadn't been used for a long time, plus it had wildly raced for more than twenty miles on country roads, several parts had flown off. Unfortunately, two brake pad components were also lost.
He pressed the brake, but the motorcycle hardly slowed down.
Seeing only one guard at the door, Roland shouted to the guard, "Guard, make way for him!"
Roland's guard team originally had few people, but now that he was a viscount, he couldn't be as casual as before, so he asked Captain Hulk to continue recruiting guards.
The guard who came forward to block withdrew his halberd, returned to his post, and saluted Roland.
This guard reacted quite well, looking particularly spirited; Roland nodded to him and also entered the castle.
Just as he had entered the castle courtyard, he saw a crimson figure swoop down from the second floor like a hawk, the great sword directly slashing at Grogers.
It was Granni!
Roland hurriedly shouted and ordered Granni to stop.
Hearing Roland's voice, Granni's body trembled slightly, biting her teeth and twisting her waist, the sword slashed to the other side. The great sword heavily smashed into the ground, cracking the ground, dust flying on both sides of the crack. The ground was shaking.
Roland squinted at Granni. He was very clear about Granni's strength, a third-order barbarian, and that kind without magic, not particularly outstanding among third-order warriors. But now, the power, skill, and balance she showed had exceeded the third order.
The unlucky dwarf engineer was blown into the garden by the shockwave, humming and struggling for a long time but unable to climb out.
Roland didn't have time to ponder why Granni suddenly became stronger, and hurried over to check on Grogers. A green light lit up; it was Melannis. She hadn't gone to the forest today, which was rare.
With her taking action, Mr. Grogers was fine. The dwarf hummed and stood up, shaking his arm as if it was broken, but found it didn't hurt at all.
"Lord Galaxia, your team really is full of talent."
He looked sorrowfully at the motorcycle, inspected it for a while, and sighed. It was just a minor malfunction, thankfully.
He simply ignored the motorcycle and stood in front of Roland, his eyes filled with little stars.
"Um, Lord Galaxia, your library..."
"Ha ha, Mr. Grogers, please follow me!"
Taking Grogers to the library, Roland actively helped take down books from the shelf, handing them to Grogers.
He wanted to state a few more words to the dwarf, but found the guy had already found a spot to sit down, engrossed in the ocean of knowledge.
Roland laughed even more joyfully. Now he could expect an alchemy workshop presided over by the dwarf engineer.
