Me being American has had a lot of effect on my social life
Some tease me
Some try to make me their friends
Some ask questions about America
But at last, nobody seemed to be friends with me
I only spoke English and to them, it was a secondary language
They don’t respond to me even near as fast as Miles and Andy do
I can’t blame them for that
They were raised in India
Even when I know I am in India it never feels like India
It isn’t that hot nor does the food seem that spicy
“Hey, Are you the new transfer student?”
I looked to my right
It was a girl no different than most of the girls I have met
“Yeah”
“My name’s Shreya. You can call me Sara”
“My name’s Lucy nice to meet you, Sara”
After that we became friends
I never knew she was in my class
She is surprisingly fluent in English
She says it’s because her mother taught it to her before any other language
She seemed to be really good at studying like Miles
Unlike him, she doesn’t bury her face in the book all the time
We tried a bunch of different things together
On weekend we went to a girls outing
It was fun
“Hey that is a cute skirt isn’t it”
“I have a skirt just like that the color’s a little different, I will show you once we get to campus”
Now we were returning to my room so I could show her that skirt
I opened the door and found the guys in the same position I left them in
“Hey guys this is Sara”
Miles turned around
“Oh! I know you, from the chemistry class”
“Yeah I know you too”
Andy just took a little peak and
“Yeah you are the girl Miles has a crush on since 7th grade”
...
...
“Maybe I should go, You can show me the skirt some other time”
I forgot he said things unconsciously
I look at Mile
His face was pale with sweat was on his forehead
It seems he really liked that girl
Suddenly he threw that book at Andy
He surprisingly caught it although I am sure it was pure luck
“Hey! Did you see that, How did I caught this book
Maybe I have ultra instincts
Who threw this”
He looked to his right
“What’s up with you?”
Miles left the room angrily
I explained what happened
“That is some deep –“
“Go”
“Where?”
“ to Apologize”
“Yeah right”
He got up from his bed
I really had no idea Miles liked somebody
He isn’t that kind of person after all
But I guess this one is one me
He is after all a boy also of that age
I got Deja-Vu
Andy’s POV
From childhood, I have the habit of saying things unconsciously when I am in the zone
My in-zone persona entwines with my personality which thinks before it speaks
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
“I really did mess up this time, huh?”
If I apologize to Miles I am sure it will be fine
Or will it?
He is the sort of person who thinks doing unnecessary things is unnecessary
Holding a grudge is one of those things
But when it comes to that girl he takes things to a whole different level
I remember the time when he begged to me to lose to Sara in chess finals
That girl was no match for me but still I lost
Just to keep my friendship safe
He is by no means a stalker
He is what I call a man in love
Even at this young age
That girl is really lucky
Only if he had the courage to tell her
I am sure he would stand a chance against a lot of guys in class
Not by his looks but by his caring personality toward that girl
“Now where are you?”
There is only one place we both know and go when we want privacy
The rooftop
I started climbing stairs
Sure enough he was there
Sitting on the very edge of the roof
There were no safety railings
But the view and quite was worth the danger
“Hey”
I quietly sat next to him
“You blew my last chance with her”
I look at his face
“When was your first chance, again?”
“June of 7th grade when she was all alone in the park”
Sometimes he even surprises me with that level of obsession
“Maybe she will like you back, now that she knows”
“...”
“I apologize, no excuses this time”
“No need to, not like I was ever going to build up the courage to tell her”
“Let’s go down and look at some catgirls and find you a waifu to sleep with”
He laughed dryly
We got to the cafeteria
He did not eat a lot. He Just stared at his food the whole time
Lucy isn’t seen anywhere
I bet she would have cheered things a little
When we returned to the room she was there smiling while watching us close the door
“Why are you smiling” I whispered in her ears
“She doesn’t hate you” She said facing Miles
“What?”
“Yeah, She just thought that if you did liked her you must have told her sooner”
“What?!”
“Why are you freaking out, shouldn’t you be happy about it”
“Happy if you are in America. In India dating starts at 22”
“You are joking ,right?”
I joined the talk
“I am as surprised as him”
“Well I don’t know about Indian customs but she grew up in Germany, if that’s what’s bothering you”
...
...
I looked at Miles’s face which was completely blank
“So much for being a stalker”
“...”
“Come on now be happy”
“Boy, is that a shock”
“Yeah you lover is german and mine’s japenese we won’t make a good team in world war two”
“So does that mean I can ask her out”
“Probably yeah” said Lucy
“Please help me on this one”
“just leave it to me”
With that they begin to plan
