28. Uwataga.

28. Uwataga.

Lady Evelyn stood in the air high above the battlefield along with four other Nascent soul stage cultivators. Three were old men from the Sacred Order, including the previous sect master, and the fourth was incredibly beautiful woman, Laura Cloud, the sect master of the sect Angelic Dawn. She looked approximately thirty years of age and her bearing was that of a fairy not belonging to this world.

When the command to attack was given, sect master Maramasa and his father positioned themselves around hundred yards away from the five and watched the proceedings with solemn faces, but when few moments later Uwataga and the rest revealed themselves, they burst in hysterical laughter while the expressions of the others turned ugly.

“You, bastard!” Lady Evelyn furiously shouted unsheathing her sword and charging towards Maramasa.

The latter easily evaded her slash and casually laughed back, “What’s up, bitch?”

But lady Evelyn didn’t intend to play around with him. Her disciples and those from the other sects were mercilessly slaughtered below and many of those were promising youths. She charged down in order to stop the despicable attack only to be instantly obstructed by Maramasa.

“Just where do you think you are going?” He sweetly smiled and said, “Let’s chat.”

“Elders!” Lady Evelyn shouted and her companions darted down, but the old sect master of the Voodoo sect immediately stopped all four in addition to slapping Laura Cloud’s butt with his gnarled staff. The wind affinity, inherited by his grandson Mumasa, allowed him to gain short bursts of speed and move almost at the double the velocity compared to others thus for a brief moment he was basically unstoppable.

While technically they could easily hold their ground and win four against one, the attacking Nascent soul stage cultivators couldn’t freely fight above the heads of their disciples. Aftershocks coming from a battle involving Nascent soul stage experts could easily change the landscape, to not speak about taking the lives of thousands of innocent bystanders. Everyone clearly understood that it was the reason why usually everyone above the Core foundation stage only observed the battles from the above and the outcome was decided by their troops.

Lady Evelyn and the others found themselves stuck between the rock and a hard place and could only grind their teeth in anger, while Maramasa and his father beamed with joy. This was a loosing battle from the start, but to cripple the future of their enemies not only gave the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, it actually delayed the development of the other sects and in the future it’ll become much easier to take revenge.

Even though she fumed with anger and could barely hold back the urge to thoughtlessly clash with Maramasa, lady Evelyn was no fool.

After taking three deep breaths to calm down she shouted, “Etessa!”

A heartbeat later two dozen people from around the battlefield rushed towards the spots where Uwataga and the others made the sneak attack and it didn’t take long when Voodoo sect’s Core formation cultivators were surrounded by forces of a similar cultivation level, except inevitably they were outnumbered.

The following fight was a complete mess and, while the sect master Maramasa already was prepared for this and watching it only made him sigh, lady Evelyn’s heart bled seeing how the Voodoo sect’s defenders disregarding any respect for their own lives crippled or took multiple opponents with them to the afterlife. It didn’t matter if they got crippled themselves, the main objective became to inflict the maximum damage possible to the other side.

At some point several of them finding themselves on the brink of death didn’t hesitate and detonated their cores creating large craters filled with dirt, bones and gore – partially their own, but more importantly – the attacker’s.

Seeing the explosions below, lady Evelyn hissed, “You damned bastard! You are overstepping all boundaries! Such tactics are employed by the people from the corrupt path!”

“This has nothing to do with the corrupt path – all your accusations were farce from the very beginning! I’m proud to see our disciples are patriots!” Maramasa laughed back. Actually he did feel a stinging pain inside watching the sight below, but there was no way he would show it to the woman in front of him, “I hope their souls reincarnate as soon as possible for me to teach them once again when I’ll rebuild the Voodoo sect!”

Lady Evelyn shouted back angrily, “Dream on! I won’t let you!”

If her stare could kill, Maramasa would’ve been dead countless times by now. He was not scared of her and the current fight went exactly as he expected, but her next words made his heart skip a beat.

“I swear to my honor I’ll find the evidence you have joined the corrupt path before the sun sets! Mark my words – I won’t let you slip away!”

“Your honor?” Even though he was getting restless, Maramasa tried to provoke her, “You’re just a little bitch! What honor have you ever had?”

The two sects had been rivals for a long time and he knew how to press her right buttons, but just when lady Evelyn drew her claymore, the previous sect master of the Sacred Order shouted, “Evelyn! Calm down!”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

“F*ck!” Maramasa cursed to himself.

If he destroyed half or even all the forces of the Sacred Order in self defense, no one could accuse him of anything. But he was pretty certain that an immortal or two were closely watching the events and if he made the wrong move his actions would actually be happily interpreted as those from the corrupted path.

Voodoo sect had always tried to find a balance to not overstep this boundary even though many techniques they cultivated were relatively questionable or directly defined as ‘corrupt’ by the Immortal Alliance. Up until now as long as they didn’t go on a killing spree and perform a genocide on the other sects, the Immortal Alliance never intervened in the business of their mortal world. Unfortunately the recent events pointed at the possibility they have given a blessing to the Sacred Order to completely annihilate the Voodoo sect.

Thus Maramasa and his father had to be very careful to not provoke an immortal, even a false one. They could escape other Nascent soul stage cultivators even if their bodies were destroyed, but there were immortals who possessed techniques allowing them to capture Nascent souls and prospects of becoming a soul slave were not enticing at all.

One after another Voodoo sect’s Core formation stage cultivators fell. At the other ends of the battlefield the bloodshed had mostly stopped with most Voodoo sect’s disciples dead or captured. While after a proper brainwashing that began the moment they stepped into the sect most preferred to die a heroic death taking along few attackers, there were many who seeing the inevitable defeat chose to surrender.

Of course, compared to the total amount of disciples the few hundred that were seized was not that big. Yes, they will have to live the rest of their lives as slaves, but many preferred such outcome to the unknown path of death.

Both the current and the previous Voodoo sect’s masters sighed at the sight Uwataga getting surrounded by a dozen attackers. Even if his talent was not as amazing compared to Mumasa, he had high chances of becoming an incredible Nascent soul cultivator and the next sect master of the Voodoo sect. Unfortunately there was only one outcome to this battle.

He also clearly knew that, but even with his half naked body covered in bloody cuts all over Uwataga was grinning widely. He took a pride in the fact that twenty odd Core formation cultivators had fallen to his blade today and, probably, close to three hundred other random people he slaughtered on the way. Now, when few more experts delivered themselves voluntarily, he was not going to refuse this gift.

“It’s better for you to just give up.” One of the surrounding attackers, named Roland Gill, spoke. He was a young man, probably around twenty five years of age and had similar heroic bearing to the rest of the cultivators from the Sacred Order. He pointed his longsword towards the encircled man and proudly said, “The war has already ended and you have lost.”

In the ranks of the twelve cultivators surrounding the last Core formation expert of the Voodoo sect were four young females with two of them being particularly beautiful.

One was the girl who usually accompanied lady Evelyn, except now her hair was cut short and barely reached her shoulders, probably because of practical reasons. She was dressed in comfortable leather armor that clearly was made from a skin of some rare beast and similar to her sect master she wielded a claymore that somewhat didn’t fit her seemingly frail stature.

The other one was what people would consider a more ‘classic’ beauty – tall and slender with long, blond hair and blue eyes. She wore white robe that currently was splattered with blood of her enemies and held a thin, three feet long sword in her right hand.

Clearly the youths around them were doing their best to leave a good impression or at least any impression at all and Roland just now attempted to do exactly that. Uwataga, on the other hand, didn’t give a f*ck about their problems, but he didn’t intend to let an opportunity to slip by and like his grandfather likes to say – arrogant cocks are easy to provoke.

“Hahaha! We’ll see about that!” Uwataga loudly laughed and suddenly swallowed few pills, “Let’s start over from a scratch!”

A moment later his wounds began to heal at a visible rate and seeing this Roland dashed towards him shouting, “Attack! Don’t let him recover!”

“Stop, you idiot! He’s recovering at the expense of his life force!” The first girl with the claymore shouted, but it was already too late.

For the first time since the battle began Uwataga used a technique involving his affinity element. One of his long, curved blades suddenly turned dark red and a heartbeat later Roland was split in halves from head to crotch along with his sword that was unfit to block Uwataga’s attack.

Dressed only in the waist garment and being showered with the rain of blood from the last victim the widely grinning Uwataga looked like a demon from hell.

“Another moron down.” He said, “Shall we play, bitches?”

“How dare you to speak to lady Etessa like that, you filth!” Another youth shouted and darted towards him, but to Uwataga’s great regret turned out to not be as useless – in fact, they were almost equally matched.

‘Damn it!’ Uwataga cursed to himself.

If he was completely fresh, he could defeat this guy relatively easily, but even though he looked all mighty and scary, Uwataga clearly knew he was on his last legs. But there was no way he would show any of it. After they exchanged a couple of moves, he quickly took another pill, except this one was in the size of a pigeon’s egg and colored crimson red.

Two breaths later his eyes and then the whole body turned in to similarly red color and began to emit traces of steam. Apparently whatever he took caused his body to heat up, but at the same time gaining a huge burst of strength.

“How could you do this to your own son?” Up above lady Evelyn asked Maramasa in shock, “The consumption of that blood pill …”

“No.” Maramasa interrupted her, “How could YOU do this to my son? His fate was sealed the moment you came to our doorstep. But no worries, let’s see if he can take your precious daughter with him, shall we?”

Seeing the wide grin on the Voodoo sect master’s face, lady Evelyn’s feet grew cold. Only now she realized that even though the goal of massacring as many of the young talents from the Sacred Order and their allies was achieved, the climax of the play was still about to come.

“Don’t worry!” Seeing the change in her expression Maramasa continued, “Let’s see if my son can f*ck up two girls at the same time.”

Hearing these words the expression of the Angelic Dawn’s sect master finally changed as well. She was confident in her daughter’s movement skills, but she knew her biggest weakness was the lack of a real battle experience.
