Leo got what he came for and talked to Ben and his daughter Viola for a bit before leaving. He went around the shops until he entered one and bought some eggs, chicken meat, and some animal bones. He had everything he needed and made his way back home. He put the food up and went to check up on his wife. He saw that she was still sleeping along with his son. He smiled and went to the storage and was about to take out some ingredients before he realized he needed more water.
He picked up a barrel half his size and slung the strap attached to it over his shoulder. He walked out and went to the well. He had to wait a bit before he was able to get his water. People congratulated him on the birth of his child. Many heard that his wife had given birth earlier that morning. It was customary to congratulate the person and not to visit them for a couple of weeks.
He soon got back home and put the barrel of water down. He sighed as he checked he had everything he needed. After confirming he got out the ingredients he was gonna use and got the tools. He went outside and started a fire. He went inside and got out a pot and filled it with water. He got some vegetables and cut them before adding them to the water. He cut up the chicken before adding it along with the bones he had bought. He had some herbs he added as well.
He was no cook but his wife forced him to learn how to cook some things. He thought of those time as he covered the pot with a lid and put it over the fire. He Waited a while as the broth he was making came to a shimmer. He looked around him as he was surrounded by the garden him and his wife had made. There were flowers and some plants that they had added. He got his sword and started practicing with it as he waited.
After a couple hours he got a bowl and a ladle which he used to fill the bowl with the broth he had made. It didn’t taste bad at all. In his opinion it tasted good. So he went back inside the room his wife was in and checked if she was still sleeping. He wondered if he should wake her up but decided against it.
He took the lid of the broth and cleaned it up. He used his cooking utensils to slowly take out the bones and some other things. He got a bowl and filled it up. He sat down on the bench and enjoyed the scenery while he ate. Eventually he finished and went back inside. He found his wife awake and offered to get her some food which she accepted. Since it was hot he blew the food to cool it down and fed it to her. This would be a common occurrence for the next couple weeks.
Hours turned into days and days into weeks. Leo took care of his wife Jakalyn as she remained in bed to recover. Eventually she was able to walk around a bit but she didn’t do so much as she didn’t want to push herself too hard. 3 weeks passed and close family and friends visited them to see their son.

His brother Jake brought his wife and son. His friend Ben brought his wife and daughter as well. Other people in the village dropped by to say hello and see the child before they left to do other things. Many people brought up the question of their son’s name. The name they had decided on was Unilus. It translates into unrivaled and unique.(Derived from the Latin word unicus.)
Unilus was a curious child and he didn’t cry as often as most other babies would. With that said he did sleep a bit more than others his age would. When he was awake he would inspect everything around him which was normal. His parents talked to him as often as possible although they had to go back to their jobs soon.
5 days of the week Leo would be out doing his job. The other 2 days of the week he would stay home and take care of Unilus. Jakalyn would go out to do her job when Leo was home taking care of Unilus. They did what they believed would be good for his development. They took him around the village to get him used to being around other people. They talked to him despite him not being able to understand what they were saying.
In addition to this he witnessed the things they did on the daily because they had to keep an eye on him at all times. There was the occasional get together where people brought their child to meet others their age. It happens every month so Unilus could get sufficient contact with others his age. With everything said and done he was growing well. His body and mind developed faster than others his age.
He began crawling sooner than everyone else his age and he managed to take his first steps while others were struggling to stand. He said his first word months before others and everyone was surprised about his rapid development. Besides his fast growth he was like any other child his age. He slept more and ate more than others but not enough to cause concern. He wasn’t getting fat either but quite the opposite.
By the time he reached 5 years old. He had 3 friends and since he was a dark elf like his mother he was a lot taller than them. That combined with his rapid development made him seem a lot older than them. When he wasn’t playing with his friends he was with his parents learning new things. He got bored pretty easily so he was always looking for something new to occupy himself with.
His mother Jakalyn was a hunter so she taught him many things related to that. His father Leo was a guard for the village. He had moved there with Jakalyn 7 years before their son Unilus was born. He was originally a guard for a city and
Jakalyn was a cook. Dark elves tended to be more violent so she quickly changed professions when she came to the village. Her parents didn’t want her to be in danger. They didn’t have a good relationship in the first place since they were overbearing. They did their best to restrict her, preventing her from being a hunter. They wanted her to be safe but in her opinion they went about it in the wrong way so she left without telling them.
Unilus was fascinated in many things but his fascination with fighting was unlike anything else. His father had a small wooden sword custom made for him although it was blunt to prevent unnecessary injuries. That didn’t stop him from taking it everywhere. His father would train in the backyard and when he did Unilus would be there watching him. Leo was happy his son was so
interested in what he did.
