Unilus’s POV

I walked through the village looking around with a bored look on my face. I swung my wooden sword around as people walked by. I already memorized everyone's faces along with their hair and eye color. I couldn’t help but memorize their family and close relatives as well.

‘ Sarah, Fresha, and Drake decided that they wanted to play hide and seek throughout the entire village. They know I don’t like this game but they seem to like it for some reason. It isn’t very hard for me to find them though. I just need to search in the places they’re most likely hiding in.

Then again, as much as I don’t like the game it does give me time to play with these purple and dark red specks in the air. Mom said they're called elemental energy and that only those that have reached the apprentice stage of a warrior or mage can see them. I haven’t reached either since it’s dangerous for those with an undeveloped body to start advancing in the ranks. She said she’ll start teaching me some spells when I turn six in a couple months.'

I change my direction and take a sharp left towards a wooden carriage. I eye it as I go around to the back of it. I grab the back of the carriage with my hands and jump up. I pushed with my arms and I managed to get into the back of the carriage. There were a couple crates and it was dark but I knew Sarah was probably hiding in here.

‘ It’s probably Sarah. Fresha doesn’t seem to like enclosed places and Drake doesn’t like dark places. Sarah doesn’t like being around others or loud noises. She has an affinity with fire and wind which makes me wonder why she likes these kinds of places. ‘

With this in mind I walk through the carriage and arrive at a specific crate. I open the crate and Sarah jumps up and screams.

“ Boo. “

I wasn’t surprised in the least although I did take a step back. I poked her forehead with my wooden sword.

“ Hey! Don’t do that. “

I didn’t stop despite her protest.

“ Why do you keep trying to scare me when you never manage to succeed? “

“ I scared you when we were little. Father said that giving up before succeeding would make me no different than a failure. “

I frowned.

‘ I never really liked her father very much since he says a bunch of nonsense. While I do agree that you shouldn’t give up easily there are times when giving up is the better option. No harm in her trying to scare me though.‘

“ There are times when you should give up. There’s no harm in trying to scare me though. If you keep it up perhaps you will scare me one day. I wouldn’t count on it. “

Sarah smiled.

“ Exactly. I’ll do it one day “

“ Why do you hide in places like this anyway? “

Looking around it was dark although clean. The crates were empty though. As dark as it was I could see her expressions with little difficulty.

“ I like the how it’s quite. “

‘ I can pretty clearly hear the people outside. It’s quieter than most places around here though. ‘

“ I see, let me help you out of that crate. “

Sarah was struggling to get out of the crate on her own. She was kind of short and her young age didn’t help with that.

“ How did you get in here anyway? You're too short to have gotten here yourself.”

“ I’m not short. I climbed to the front and got in from there. “

I helped her out of the crate and held her wrist as I guided her through the carriage to the back.

“ You manage to get in places that you can’t get out of. You also like places others don’t. You're quite an interesting person. “

We got to the end of the carriage and I quickly got down and helped Sarah down as well. Sarah’s bright green hair and red eyes shone brightly when the sun hit them. She frowned as the sudden light increased.

“ Fresha is probably somewhere near the fields. Drake is probably near where she is. “

“ You found me first. “

“ Well I wasn’t going to go all the way to the fields and leave you hiding somewhere in the village. Those two tend to hide as far away as they can which prolongs this game. “

“ You like using a bunch of different words. “

‘ Sometimes others my age have a hard time speaking with me. I either talk too fast for them to understand or use words they don’t understand. ‘

“” Prolongs" means to extend something in terms of time. Let’s say I was running around the village. It would take me 4 hours to do that if I tried my best. Let’s try. I didn't do my best and slowed down. Doing that would prolong the amount of time it takes me to run around the village from 4 to 6 hours. “

I explained in what I believed were words she could understand. I talked slowly and gave her time to process what I said. I didn’t want to limit what I could say to a level where she could understand. I would rather explain what the word means and how it’s used to expand her understanding. Despite how annoying doing so could be at times.

Sarah went silent as I looked back and saw her staring into space. I didn’t bother her as I guided us through the village. After a little while we exited the village through the West gate where the wheat was grown. As we exited the gate we paused. The village was slightly elevated which made it possible to see the golden field beneath the sky. If one looked closely they would be able to see small moving dots which were the farmers and other villagers.

‘ If anything is interesting it’s how views like this never fail to captivate me. I’m sure it’ll change eventually. I should probably go find Fresha and Drake. Then again I'm sure they’ll be fine for a while. ‘

“ Sarah, let’s walk around for a bit. “

“ My legs hurt. “

I looked at her.

‘ I forgot my body is stronger than others my age. I can walk around a lot more than others my age can. I already told her we’d walk around a bit and she’d be disappointed if we don’t. There’s really only one solution. ‘

I let go of Sarah’s wrist and took a knee.

“ Get on my back. I’ll carry you around. “

She was a little hesitant, bit obliged and put her arms around my neck. I used my arms to lift her legs and then I stood up.

‘ She wasn’t heavy but she isn’t exactly light for me and my undeveloped body. I’m not going to tell her that though. Mother and father both said that ladies are more vulnerable and whatnot. I wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings for no reason. ‘

“ Sarah, is there any place you want to go to? “
