Chapter 24

The last week before the end of the beta had passed. He continued to mine during this week, increasing his stats and Mining skill. There were two more big Rock Crab attacks which got him to level 177. He had gotten 120 total stat points, which he immediately put in. His Mining skill had increased to 124, which gave him 32.4% efficiency.

The attacks had gotten his Blink to level 16, Change Gravity to 13, and Gravity Point to 17. He also got his Hydration and Rationing skills to 3 both, as he only ate once the entire week. One thing he had learned while looking through his skills, is that the primary magic skills, like Gravity Magic, Void Magic, and Stellar Magic leveled up depending on how much you knew about the magic and how many more spells you knew. The amount you used them did nothing.

Currently, his stats looked like this:

StatusNameRelfemRaceVoid-ElfExperienceLevel 177: 23%TitlesSurvivor, Mass Dark HorseHealth1190/1190Mana2370/2370Health Regen13.7 Per SecondMana Regen26.9 Per SecondVitality119Endurance137Strength136Agility102Dexterity101Intelligence237Wisdom269Willpower263Status EffectsStats Points0

He also didn't know why, but his Mental Stats, Willpower, Intelligence, and Wisdom seemed to go up much faster than his physical stats, but that's most likely due to his race.

Jayson was currently in the starting room he woke up in looking at the timeout before the beta ended. 5...4...3...2...1...

As he closed his eyes, he felt the very fabric of his life leave the body he was in. He felt a quick rush of cool over his body, and as he opened his eyes he found that he was back in the capsule. As he lifted himself up, he immediately saw a difference. His arms felt lighter and faster, he could see and hear better, and he could think faster. When the devs talked about the game changing your real body, they weren't lying.

*I wonder how they managed to do that...Not only that, but they said that the increase was small, but I already feel much stronger.*

Looking around the room, he saw a fresh pair of clothing by the bathroom. He quickly went inside and took a shower before dressing himself. They were plain gray sweatpants and a black shirt that said- "Ley World Beta-Tester" on them.

Leaving the room, he walked towards the auditorium. The devs would probably be having a much more in-depth speech now that the game was about to go live. As he walked in, he could see many people were already seated. He quickly sat down and listened to some of the conversations going on around him.

So far, nobody had said anything about being a slave, the game knowing their name, but one thing they did talk about was their average levels. Apparently most players were already above Level 1000, with stats in the thousands for most stats, but only 2-3 people had titles. And neither were as good as his.

One gave a +10 to all Stats, and the other, which two people had, gave +1 Strength per 5 levels. Soon though, one of the devs came on stage and shushed everyone.

"I hope everyone has enjoyed this beta! If you have already ordered your capsules, they have already been installed and delivered. If not you have 1 chance left. If you order them today you will get them as early as possible, and while most others will have to wait 1-2 days after the game releases to be fully installed, yours will be installed a few hours afterwards." - Dev

"Now, to the next topic. I know most of you want to know how your body has changed so much. Well that's simple. Humans in real life have an average of 10 in each stat. We made it so that for every 1,000 stat points in game, you gain 1 IRL. If we went any further your bodies would break. Any slower and nothing would happen. So you guys, if you get over 1000 in one stat, will become 10% stronger on average." - Dev

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Also, we are changing a few things right before the game releases. Firstly, we saw that the regen was a bit overkill, so in combat your regen will be halfed. 5 minutes after combat finishes it will go back to normal. Also, as many of you have seen, the +whatever to stats for each level for certain races doesn't work, because we feel like you guys are already too strong and that would be useless." - Dev

As he said that, Jayson could hear a few mumbles of displeasure. Even he was a bit disappointed. It was hard enough to fight against that many beasts with his mana regen, and now it would be even smaller.

"Also, we will make the map function available. You will be able to see everything on that map that you have been, or you can buy areas of the map from NPC's." - Dev

"Last and most important thing, you will be, upon joining back, allowed to either teleport to the nearest starter city or stay in the same space you are. Ah how could I forget. When the game fully releases, you will not have the full universe to explore. You will have 4 more galaxies for now. To unlock more, the player average level has to either go up, or the amount of total players has to go up. As you go on, more and more space will be unlocked, each with their own low and high leveled areas. We currently have around 500 galaxies done, and are always creating more." - Dev

"We are expecting to release 250 by the end of the year, with a player base close to 1.25 billion per month. You guys have 1 day to wait, before you can go back in. Enjoy this day, and prepare yourselves, for in a day the real race to gain power will begin." - Dev

While 1.25 billion seemed like a lot, currently the world's population was at 13 billion, after a new technology to purify water and create food appeared a few years back, allowing the world's population to skyrocket while still being able to control and fix their greenhouse gas issues.

As he finished speaking, the doors opened by themselves and people began to leave. As he was leaving, a man in a black suit and tie came up to him and asked him to come along.

*I wonder what he wants. They obviously work for the company. Maybe it's because of the slave and name thing?*

As he followed, he was led up an elevator to an office. Walking in, he recognized it to be the same dev that was just talking.

"Welcome Jayson Belliar, known as Relfem. My name is John Melk, the lead director of the game's development. Please, take a seat." - John

Looking around the room, Jayson could see it was quite bland. A few papers here and there, most of the space was taken up by computer screens. Now that they were closer, Jayson could also better see the man's face. He had a sharp jawline, with hazel brown eyes that seemed to see right through you. He had a small goatee, and had his hair slicked back.

Nodding, Jayson sat in the chair across from him.

"Now then, I assume you know what I want to talk to you about?" - John

Jayson nodded once more.

"A man of few words are you? Well then, lets get to the main topic. The reason you are a slave is made that way as part of the story. Since you have a large record of playing RPG's and MMO's, we decided to change your gameplay a bit, make it more challenging for someone such as you. Not only that, but you will have much more time in the world than anybody else to play. Secondly, the AI's knowing your name. That was... well an accident. When compiling information into the main AI controlling the world, we accidentally gave it access to a few peoples names. It doesn't know anything other than your name though. We managed to delete the other people's names from the game, but since we changed your story line, the AI wouldn't let us. As a gift of sorry, we changed the perk you got from the Mass Dark Horse title, to give you the Kill Transaction skill." - John

"I hope you don't have a problem with any of this?" - John

*Hmmm... well, I could really care less.*

"It's all okay." - Jayson

"Perfect. Before you go, here's a tip, you still haven't used the Elves natural psychic skills." - John

As he left the building, Jayson thought about the psychic skills.

*That's it! I remember seeing them in the race selection, but I completely forgot about them... I'll have to take a look at them once I get back into the game. I have around 14 hours before the game releases, and I already have my capsule installed. I'll be in there for a month, so I guess I should call my parents.*

As he got into his self-driving car and set it to his home, he called his parents.

"Hello honey?" - Mom

"Hey mom. I've just finished the beta-test. I'm going back in tomorrow and will be staying for a month." - Jayson

"Well that's good. How was it? Did they live up to all their hype? Is it possible that they weren't bullshitting everything they said?" - Mom

"They did everything they said and more." - Jayson

"Well, thats a problem... I'll have to talk to your father about this. For now go have fun." - Mom

As she hung up, Jayson sat there, thinking about what they just said.

*Those two are always trying to take control of other companies, but with the size of this game, they might finally fail at it.*

Smiling to himself, he fell asleep until he got back to his home, in Downtown Manhattan. He lived in the penthouse of a 130 floor skyscraper. It cost him a few million, but it gave him peace and quiet. It allowed him to live separated from everyone else. Looking out one of the floor to ceiling windows, he looked at Belliar Tower.

It was planned out around 10 years ago, and after 7 years his parents building had been finished. At a height of 970 meters, it was the 5th tallest tower in the world, the tallest being the New Tokyo Tower, with a height of 1,300 meters.

It was built in with military-strength turrets capable of shooting anything from rocks to airplanes should the need arise. It wouldn't be the first time someone tried to destroy their building. The first was the reason they built this tower. It housed both them and their company.

Large enough to hold around 15,000 people inside, it was the largest area-wise building. Looking away, he looked at the clock. 5 minutes till launch. Going over to the capsule, he strapped himself in and closed his eyes. Once more, like when he first began, he saw the countdown.
