Letting Go
3. Sir Thomas

3. Sir Thomas

The maid refused to allow Owen to leave the manor grounds. So, like any child, he decided to ask his mom next while leaving out that he had already been told no. Then he headed to the parlor where she was probably teaching embroidery or something to his sister. Apparently his sister was going to be married off soon, so his mom had been giving a lot of last minute instruction on being a "proper lady".

However, he soon heard Lady Alicia yelling at a knight about something. She did not get along with Sir Thomas, but his father trusted Sir Thomas completely.

"I don't care what my husband says, I will not have your meddling with my family!" Owen heard his mom say from the parlor.

This sounds bad, I just want to retreat to my room and stay out of everything, Owen thought to himself. However, his feeling of pity for Gerald was stronger, so he timidly entered the parlor. Sir Thomas looked over at Owen with curiosity, which then made Lady Alicia notice Owen.

"What do you want?" she asked with irritation.

"Um, I..." Owen started.

"Don't 'Um' me! State your business clearly and concisely!" she interrupted.

Owen straightened up to give a better impression, and said "I need to go into the village with Gerald."

"You want to leave the manor willingly?" she said with shock.

Meanwhile, Thomas quickly switched to action mode and asked "Is the boy injured?"

"No, he is just hiding so I thought we should go into Beckthorpe Village for a while until things calm down" Owen explained.

While Sir Thomas got a thoughtful look, Lady Alicia said "While you need to remember the difference between your stations, I will allow you to take a carriage and a guard since you should leave your room more often anyway."

"We could just walk..." Owen started to say.

"I will go with them" Sir Thomas said, which caused Lady Alicia to give the knight a very skeptical look.

"Fine, behave yourselves" Lady Alicia said as she reluctantly gave in.

"I'll get ready and meet you and Gerald out at his spot soon." Sir Thomas' response surprised Owen, since he did not realize that Sir Thomas was paying that much attention to Gerald and himself.
