A story on letting go of old attachments. This fantasy world has many medieval European elements pulled from multiple time frames and places, but it is still a fictional fantasy world. The true comparison between history and this fiction is that both this fantasy and the real world have flawed societies filled with flawed individuals. The protagonist's view of this society is based in part from a modern perspective as well as his prior experiences. The story is then how he responds to not just his own flaws in this different society, but also opening back up to his surroundings.
