Chapter two: Creatures in the cave

It has been a month since Ethan came to this world. He was already level 14 and became better with the katana everyday as his sword mastery skill rose passively to level 6. In the last month he has been living rather comfortable, selling monster corpses in the near small city called greenwood city for a couple silver coins with which he could afford to buy a small home for himself.

His home wasn’t anything grand but it was enough for him. It was a small house at the outskirts of the city with only 2 rooms. One big room where his bed and kitchen was and another small one with a nice bathroom.

Stepping out of his cozy house, Ethan went through the city and into the nameless forest a couple hundred meters away. On his way he took note of the blazing hot sun, that burned on his neck and the wind, that brushed through the trees. With the many people walking in and out of the city, it was your typical busy summer day. After he entered the forest, Ethan began searching for any kinds of monsters. One hour passed in which Ethan killed 2 small creatures that looked like goblins. With both being under level 10, it was very easy work for him. Afterwards he noticed a cave entrance a little deeper into the forest and walked right to it.

He took a deep breath as he stepped into the cave of the nameless forest. The air was musty and stale, with a faint hint of something metallic. He drew his katana and held it at the ready, scanning the darkness for any signs of movement.

As he made his way deeper into the cave, Ethan's senses were on high alert. He could hear the faint drip of water echoing through the tunnels, and the faint rustle of something moving in the shadows.

Suddenly, a figure lunged at him from the darkness. Ethan's instincts took over, and he dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. He turned to face his assailant, and was shocked to see a dark elf standing before him.

The elf was tall and lithe, with long, sharp ears and piercing blue eyes. He wore black leather armor and wielded two daggers with deadly precision.

Ethan knew that dark elves were skilled assassins, and that this one was no exception. He had to act fast if he wanted to survive.

With a quick flick of his wrist, Ethan charged forward, katana flashing in the dim light. The elf dodged his first attack with ease, but Ethan pressed on, relentless in his pursuit.

The two warriors circled each other, blades flashing in the darkness. Ethan felt his heart pounding in his chest as he parried blow after blow, struggling to keep up with the elf's lightning-fast movements.

But Ethan was a samurai, and he refused to back down. He gritted his teeth and charged forward once more, his blade arcing towards the elf's neck. The elf was too quick, however, and dodged at the last second, slicing his dagger across Ethan's arm. „Fuck.“ Cursed Ethan as he gritted his teeth against the pain, but refused to let it slow him down.

With a fierce cry, he lunged forward once more, his katana flashing through the air. The elf was caught off guard, and Ethan's blade sliced cleanly through his armor, piercing his heart.

The elf fell to the ground, his body convulsing as he gasped for air. Ethan watched in horror as the life drained from the elf's eyes, feeling a sense of guilt and sorrow wash over him. But he knew he had no choice. In this world, it was kill or be killed. And if he wanted to survive, he had to be the one standing at the end of the battle.

Ethan took a deep breath and wiped the sweat from his brow. He knew that this was only the beginning, and that there were many more dangers lurking in the depths of the cave.

With a steely determination, he pressed on, his senses alert for any sign of danger. He knew that his battles as a samurai had prepared him for this, and that he was more than capable of handling whatever low level creatures lay ahead.

As he moved deeper into the cave, Ethan encountered all manner of strange creatures. There were giant spiders with long, hairy legs, and massive bats that swooped down from the ceiling. There were also strange, humanoid fat and ugly creatures with sharp teeth and glowing red eyes, which Ethan suspected were some kind of demon.

But Ethan was undaunted. He had trained the last month for this, and he would not be deterred by the likes of these beasts.

As he journeyed deeper into the cave, Ethan felt himself growing stronger. He could feel the power coursing through his veins, and he knew that he was leveling up.

He gained new abilities that suited his samurai class, such as the ability to perform a powerful "downward slash" that could cleave through even the toughest of armor. He also gained the passive ability "greater reflexes" to dodge attacks with lightning-fast movements and the ability "mana blade" to channel his mana into his blade, increasing its power tenfold.

Ethan was thrilled and he liked the feeling to grow stronger more and more.

He had finally reached the deepest part of the cave, where he knew the strongest and most dangerous creatures lurked. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he prepared for the battles ahead.

With a deep breath, he drew his katana and stepped forward, ready to take on the creatures that awaited him.

The first creature he encountered was a massive troll, its skin thick and armored. Ethan charged forward, katana flashing in the dim light, and the troll roared in anger as it swung its massive club at him.

Ethan dodged to the side, feeling the rush of air as the club whistled past his ear. He took a deep breath and charged forward once more, his blade slicing cleanly through the troll's thick neck.

The troll roared in agony as it collapsed to the ground, and Ethan took a moment to catch his breath. He could feel his abilities growing stronger with each battle, and he knew that he was getting closer to leveling up.

For the next few days, Ethan battled his way through the cave, taking on all manner of creatures. He fought against giant spiders and fire-breathing drakes, against demons and goblins and all manner of other beasts. And with each battle, he grew stronger. He could feel his abilities advancing, becoming more powerful and more effective. He was also becoming even more ruthless and colder as his guilt for killing gradually decreased more and more.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Ethan had already leveled up a couple of his samurai skills to at least evel 5, while sword mastery even reached level 9. He knew that he was ready to advance his class to a new and better one. To advance a class you have to reach the level cap of your class first which is Level 20. Afterwards, the system analysis every action you did up until then and which skills you used the most and which level they are. At the end of this, the system advances your class to an improved one, but which is still not much different to your last. A class evolution only happens at level 100 and 200 and 300. Class advancements happen every 20 levels. Ethan reached level 20 just a couple minutes ago so he was ready to advance his class now.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he began to concentrated on his system. And then, suddenly, he felt a surge of power. It was like a shockwave that rippled through his body, leaving him gasping for air.

When he opened his eyes, he knew that something had changed. He felt stronger, more focused, more powerful than ever before. He looked down at his katana and saw that it was glowing with a faint blue light. He knew that this was a sign of his new and improved samurai class. He checked his new stats with a large grin and set off deeper into the cave. He knew that there were still more battles to be fought, and he was ready for whatever lay ahead.

As he journeyed deeper into the cave, Ethan encountered even more powerful creatures. He fought against massive ogres and undead warriors, against dark wizards and shadowy ……slimes?

But he was undaunted. He was a samurai, why would he fear creatures that didn’t even reach their first class advancement yet? And then, finally, he saw it.

In a big and dimly lit room stood a massive drake, its scales black and gleaming in the blue light. It was twice the size of any drake he had ever seen before, with razor-sharp teeth and deadly claws. „First advancement! Shit, is the information outdated? I thought i would only meet monsters below first advancement!“

Ethan felt a thrill of excitement and a tinge of fear as he stepped forward to face the massive drake nonetheless. He knew that this would be the battle of his life, the one that would truly test his skills and abilities.

He charged forward, katana flashing in the dim light, and the drake roared in anger as it breathed a stream of fire at him. Ethan used his "greater reflexes" and dodged to the side, feeling the heat wash over him. As he charged forward once more, he infused his blade with mana and sliced through the drakes scales. The drake roared in anger and pain as it saw how the puny human injured it with a large gash and swung its massive tail at him, but Ethan dodged narrowly to the side, feeling the enormous power behind that attack.

The drakes tail slammed against the dim floor of the cave as spider web like cracks spread across it all. Ethan used this chance to use a "downward slash" at the drakes tail with all his power in the hope of cutting it off. The blade reached the drakes tail and cut it cleanly off in which the drake roared in pain and swiped its massive claws at Ethan. Not being able to react in time, Ethan hastily tried to block with his katana which resulted in him being launched across the whole room.

He slammed against the wall far off in the distance, feeling a couple bones crack.

Ethan grunted in pain and immediately stood up as the drake wouldn’t give him time to recover.

Samurai and drake continued to battle in the cave for the next minutes. The power emanating from both of them scared most of the other creatures away but there were always stupid ones that would charge right in between the battle of two first advancement beings. All of them were immediately slaughtered by either Ethan or the drake and as the battle raged on, cracks started to spread further and further through the whole room which unfortunately for the drake, Ethan took note off.

„Lets finish this, shall we?“ said Ethan.

In a last attack he channeled mana through his blade and charged with all speed he could muster to the exit of the room where he combined his already infused mana blade with his "downward slash" and slashed with all his power and mana against the already massively cracked walls.

The result was a massive booming sound which shook the whole cave and let to the destruction of the dimly lit room with the drake inside it.

The drake roared with all its power but soon went silent as it was buried under the large boulders. With its already greatly injured body, only death awaited it.

Ethan quickly ran through the cave back to the very entrance where he stopped to rest. He felt a great surge of strength flowing through his body as he finally got the experience for the massive drake.

„My plan worked hahahah. I really thought i might die in there.“ said Ethan between laugher and tears of joy before the fatigue kicked in and he went unconscious.
