Prologue + Chapter 1

PROLOGUE:

People can change overtime.

These changes may be caused by new life experiences, meeting new people, or maybe even reading a cool story.

I have changed, and the people who knew me are surprised by how much I`ve changed.

But it doesn`t matter.

This is the true me.

This is the personality I`ve kept pent up over all these years.

All because of my fear of being judged.

But that`s all changed now.

In this new world, none of that matters.

The only thing that matters is power.

CHAPTER 1: An Unforgettable Night

It was late at night and I was on my computer with a blanket over my head. I was binging the chapters of a Wuxia novel when suddenly my computer`s screen turned black.

“S-shit!” I yelled in surprise but then I subdued it. I started to panic, afraid of getting in trouble for breaking my parent`s laptop.

I calmed myself and pressed the ON button for a few seconds to see if it would work. It didn`t work though, and I tried plugging it in and then pressing it.

“This isn`t working! What am I going to do!?” I said in a quiet voice.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

This was when the laptop`s screen started to light up. This removed my earlier discomposure, until I noticed that the screen was showing static.

“What is this, a TV?” I joked a bit to remove the tension. I closed the laptop after feeling that nothing was going to work, before laying on my bed to sleep.

That is, before I heard a growling sound from outside.

“Shh, bad boy!” We owned a shih tzu that was particularly brave, so barking became a common occurrence. He probably just saw a cat and decided to chase it. Then I heard a *puchu* and a thud. I heard the dog`s whimpering before it died down, leaving with it a complete silence.

I ran over to my door, locking it before grabbing a metal pole from the balcony of my room. I gripped it tightly, preparing for the worst.

I heard light footsteps, and I felt my body turn cold. It was heading towards mom`s room.

I dashed out of my room, holding the metal pole.

“Mom!!” I called while swinging the metal pole wildly. But when I went into Mom`s room, I felt cold sweats on my back.

There was a humanoid creature with green skin about the size of a child glaring at me while holding my shivering mother with a knife to her neck. It was a goblin.

The goblin pointed at my weapon with its warty finger and then pointed to the ground. I felt speechless. It wanted me to drop my weapon.

I grit my teeth and place my weapon on the ground.

Never trust an enemy.

“Kekeke” The goblin slashed my mother`s neck. My mother let out a blood-curling scream while the goblin charged at me.

I hesitated for a second, but a second was more than enough for the goblin to attack. *puchi* It`s knife stabbed the flesh on my leg.

I endured the pain as I pinned down the goblin with my body. I removed the knife which cause me to hiss in pain.

The goblin let out irritating shrieks. Fueled by anger, I started to bash it`s head on the floor.

“AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!” I screamed as I kept on bashing, ignoring the pain from my leg.

Suddenly, the screaming stopped, and I looked at the goblin whose face was smashed. I felt my body lose strength. My knees wobbled as I approached my mother and started to cry.

“M-mom*sniff*…” The tears just kept on dripping as I embraced her cold body. My mother was killed.

Although I was startled by the feeling of warmth that enveloped my body, I still kept on crying.

I hugged my mom tighter as tears and snot fill my wheezing face.

‘I am alone.’ I realized. Alone in this new world where monsters roam.

‘I am powerless.’ My cries intensified shortly before I passed out from the mental strain.
