CHAPTER 2: I Will Bring You Back
It was noon, and the sun shined brightly. A house stood unremarkably in a suburban area when a voice echoed through its walls.
“How do you explain these grades?” A cold voice filled with hidden fury and a slight hint of disappointment. Inside the house, two people faced each other. One was a middle-aged man wearing a suit with hair slicked back crossing his arms, and the other was a young boy wearing a school uniform with head facing the floor.
“I`m sorry.” The boy shakily replied. The man just stared at the boy before looking back at the paper in his hand.
“You failed both Science and Math, and you barely passed the other subjects.”
“The only subject you passed with acceptable results is P.E., but we both know that doesn`t count.”
“What am I even paying your tuition for if all you do is waste your time watching TV.”
Blow after blow came out of the man`s mouth. The boy`s tears fell from his face.
“I`m sorry, dad.” He sniveled. The man had a cold look in his eyes as he looked at the boy.
“I will not tolerate these kinds of grades next time.” The man let the boy wallow in his self-pity and left silently.
The boy fell to the ground crying “I`m really ah sorr—ah dad.” He said blearily, covering his eyes with his palms.
The boy was surprised when he felt someone hug him. He could smell the cosmetics from her body, but it felt strangely comforting.
“It`s okay, Earl. You only need to try harder next time, right?” A woman`s gentle voice reached his ears. He cried harder when he heard her words, tears of joy instead filling his face.
“Geez, you`re such a crybaby.” The woman said with a laugh. The boy smiled and wiped the tears off his face.
“yeah, sorry mom.” The boy just kept on smiling. “I`ll do my best!” He said, making a pose with his arms.
The woman smiled at her son`s goofiness and patted his head. The boy smiled and laughed.
His mother picked up her groceries and started to place the items in the cabinet.
The boy looked at his mother`s back with a gaze of determination.
‘I`ll definitely work harder, mom.” The boy said resolutely.

I wake up groggily. The sunlight attacks my eyes, so I cover them with my hands
“Ugh…” I groan as I get up. The pain in my back reflected my terrible sleeping posture.
“W-what?” I jump as I felt the thing I was sleeping on.
No, not a thing, but a body.
“It wasn`t a dream.” I muttered bitterly. The events that transpired last night made me lose feeling in my feet. And so, I just laid on my mother`s lifeless body.
My breathing quickened somewhat, but I didn`t cry. As if I lost all my tears last night. I laid unmoving as I embraced my mother “Mom…”

I carry my mother`s corpse and place it on the bed as I walk out of the room. Along the way, I see the corpse of the goblin and I kick it out of frustration. When I saw our dog`s corpse, I winced, but I didn`t pick it up. I just didn`t feel like it.
I went back into my room and sat on my bed, thinking about what I`m going to do from now on.
“Status.” I whisper. I still remember clearly what happened last night, the notifications included. I`ve read enough LitRPGs to know what was going on.

‘I knew it.’ I thought as I looked at the Status Screen in front of my eyes. The world turned into a game.
My eyes widen as I thought of an idea. If the world`s turned into a game, then doesn`t that mean I could use magic? Then if so, maybe I could just go through the path of Necromancer and revive my mother.
I shake my head at the thought. Even if I revived my mother through Necromancy, she won`t approve of it. She was a Christian, after all. And even though she wasn`t that much of a believer, she would probably hate being an Undead.
‘What if she became a spirit?’ I thought. ‘That way, I can reunite with and help her with any unfinished business!’ Grinning ear to ear, I decided on my future path as a Necromancer.
I decided to look at my inventory to see what that 1 item was.
The inventory is a 3x3 grid with all but one space being empty. The first space has an icon of a double-headed hammer with a wooden handle and a metal head. I click on the icon to see the description of the item.
Basic Hammer
* Basic weapons are a measure of a person`s talent and potential as measured by The Core.
* Hammers are usually given to those with the aptitude to gain a heavy warrior class and a blacksmith sub-class.
Attack: 20-30
Additional Stats: +1 STR, CON
Special Effects: None
‘Hmm, becoming a Necromancer will be harder than I thought.’ If I have more aptitude to become a warrior, then magic classes will probably be harder to obtain for me. I understand this, but I will not give up.
I`m determined to revive my mother, no matter what.
I equipped the Hammer and distributed my unassigned points, then I looked at my new Status Screen.

I never actually played any games before, but after reading about it from web novels, I have a vague idea on what each stat is about.
I chose to put my points into STR, AGI, and WIS so I would be able to hit harder, escape faster, and make better decisions. I`m not actually sure about the magical part of WIS, but I think it will help with the Necromancer path since being wiser comes with having better control. I think.
Anyway, I stood up from my bed and gripped my weapon tightly. I first went to my mother`s room and smiled lovingly at her body.
“I will definitely bring you back.” I said with an unwavering gaze.

Preview (Chapter 3: Observation and Planning)
I stood in front of the red gate as I peeked through the gaps. I saw goblins walking in pairs of two.
From what I saw, most goblins used knives and clubs. But there were some who wielded bow and arrows…
