The Wanderers of Yore

The Wanderers of Yore

Alex: "Quartz must have followed Jace off Yore. The only place they could have gone is the mainland."

North: "Why didn't Quartz just kill em' and come back if she knew where he was goin'?"

Hazel:"You dimwit, of course she wouldn't be able to catch him so easily. He's Jace, the Second Wanderer—in other words, our current leader! Traitor or not, he's a force to be reckoned with. Personally, I think he didn't even share all that he was capable with us, especially considering how unwilling he is to share the knowledge within James's grimoire."

North: "Then why didn't Quartz tell us to we could smack em' together?"

Hazel: "She did tell us, you just weren't listening. In fact, she told all of us, but for some reason we were all too angry to listen to our strategician. You know, the one who's main job is coming up with plans?"

Alex: "Could you two please try not to fight when we are in the middle of a meeting? I may not be as talented as James or Jace, but as the current second-in-command of the Wanderers, I would appreciate a bit more cooperation between the two of you. my allies and friends."

North: "OK, I GET IT! Jeez, there's no need to make such a big fuss! We didn't even get violent yet, so there's no need to complain. This is why you're only the vice, Al."

Hazel (quietly): "Don't lump me together with that disgraceful brute...I am great at cooperating."

Alex: "... ...Okay, now that everyone has settled down, let us talk about the topic at hand. Jace may be able to take down any one of us on his own, and he may be able to kill every one of us if we all fought him at once. However, he is not very good at nonlethal combat, and he clearly does not want to kill us—we are still alive right now, after all. Because he is kindhearted to a faultt, I bet he managed to knock Quartz unconscious but could not bring himself to kill her. She is probably cuffed using that one pair of manacles I helped Jace make. If I knew he was going to betray us, I would have refused to help him make any magic items in the first place...well. it is too late to regret what has already been done. The past is the past and no one knows what the future may hold, but we sure as hell can change the present. How many days ago did the harbormaster of Tidebreak say the two set out to sea, Hazel?"

Hazel: "The harbormaster said they boarded a boat heading to the northern coast of the Kingdom of Amity about a week ago—they should've reached the mainland by now."

Alex: "Well, since I cannot trust any of you imbeciles—especially those I cannot oversee—I cannot trust in Quartz to get the job done. She always secretly wanted to get closer to Jace, right? If we let her, she might even change sides. If we come across them, we should not hesitate to kill both. If we find them traveling together, we should try to kill Quartz first because she is the weaker of the two. She may be a renowned sorceress, but she is only human...Jace, on the other hand...well, we cannot be certain. This is all speculation, anyways."

North: "Couldn't ya speak your mind without all the cryptic mumbo jumbo and incoherent ranting for once?"

Alex: "Oh shut up, North, you would not understand even if I spoke in such a way that an eight-year-old could comprehend. I know you are not the brightest, but you were able to become a Wanderer in the first place because James saw something in you—even if whatever he saw in you has always been invisible to me. Please, just let me do all the thinking. You can take care of all the violence when we finally catch up to Jace."

North (hiding a smirk): "OK, you're the boss, vice boss."

Hazel: "I think it's about time we head out. If we don't leave soon, we'll have no change of catching up to Jace. The grimoire is all that matters; we cannot let Jace get away with stealing it!

Alex: "You are right, Hazel, but you must remember who is in charge. You follow my orders, not the other way around."

Hazel (with a sigh): "Yeah yeah, I get it, so are we going or what?"

Alex: "Alright, let us depart! Everyone, we must bring our familiars because Jace clearly managed to sneak back and steal his away—no ordinary mount would be able to catch him now, especially since he has a full week of progress ahead of us."
