Reservoir Restoration

Reservoir Restoration

Jace (Morph - Quartz): "I got approval from Jace to cleanse the reservoirs. May you please show me to them now?"

Receptionist: "Yes, of course! Thank you so much, Quartz! Oh, and who's this new person with you?"

Twilight: "Just a friend who happened to be in town."

Receptionist: "O...kay? Well, anyways, let's go to the reservoirs before anyone else dies of thirst."

----------------------------------------

Jace and Twilight head over to the first reservoir and Jace cleanses it without issue. It is worth noting that Twilight is actively trying to figure out how to perfectly replicate Jace's Sphere Clear which appears at first to be nothing more than a verbal casting of common magic. By the time Jace has cleansed the second reservoir, however, Twilight has realized that Jace wasn't using incantations to cast his magic. Jace is a visual caster. Although she has seen both somatic (physical) and semantic (verbal) spellcasting, she has never seen visual (vivid) casting before, despite knowing of its existence. After confirming what she though she saw during the second cleansing, she just had to ask. Twilight continued following Jace back to the adventurer's guild with the intention of asking about his spellcasting methods once they were alone.

Twilight wasn't thinking of Jace when she decided to wait to ask him; Twilight didn't want the knowledge she planned to gain to be obtained by any others. Witches are innately selfish and self-centered—even more so than humans.

Against Twilight's expectations and calculation, she wouldn't be able to ask Jace about his spellcasting that night because all of the adventurers at the guild coerced Jace (who they thought was Quartz) into staying and celebrating. Although the towns had literally no alcoholic beverages left due to the tainted water supplies, the villagers still managed to keep the party going until one in the morning. The guildmaster offered "Quartz" a free night's stay in one of the guild's few guestrooms, and Jace wasn't one to turn down a place to sleep that isnt cold and hard and literally dirt. Needless to say, Jace didn't stay awake long enough after lying down in a real bed for the first time in more than a week for Twilight to question him.

Jace (Morph - Quartz)

Since I woke up first, I can finally slip away from Twilight. I'm going to head to the marketplace and see if I can by some paints and a paint brush. I'd also like a pencil and an eraser (if they are for sale) for sketching out the scenery of the top of Mount Ire before I attempt to paint it. I have a very powerful imagination, but my memory is a bit shoddy so I'm going to have to do the best I can and hope what I draw is good enough for the spell to work. Wait, memories? Oh no... I left my diary on Yore, didn't I? There were so many important things in there! Well, at least the other Wanderers won't be able to open it since I captured Quartz.

After I got out of the guild's guestroom and received my payment, I had the achievement of cleansing recorded on Quartz's adventurer's lisence, left the guild, went out into the woods, and took of the mask.

After changing into the pair of commoner's clothes I left back at my campsite, I prepared breakfest for Quartz and shifted the empty plate I sent to Quartz with a full meal during last night's festivities back to the adventurer's guild beneath a chair I positioned in a corner of the mess hall before I left this morning. Next, I made sure Quartz's restraints hadn't loosened or been tampered with. Having taken care of everything I had to do back at camp, I set out for the market to buy those art supplies I needed.

I feel like someone's watching me, but I don't hear anyone specificly trying to match their footsteps with mine so, if I'm being followed, I'm not being followed by a professional. I found the artist's supplies I needed and left the market. Instead of heading back to camp immediately, I headed off to a different, deserted part of the forest.

Jace: "Who's there?"

"I can feel your eyes boring into me. Either reveal yourself in a direct confrontation or leave me be. This is your final warning."

----------------------------------------

Jace then proceeded to infuse the blade in his right sleeve with magic and, thrusting the hidden blade towards the place he senses the gaze, releases the magical energy through the tip of the blade. An invisible blade that can only be spotted by the distortions it causes in the exact shape of the hidden blade is then released from the tip of the blade in the direction Jace thrusted. The magic stab collided with an invisible orb, destroying both the orb and the magical blade on contact.

Jace could tell that whatever was watching him could no longer see him.

Twilight

Ugh, why did he destroy my magic eye? I just wanted to find out where he was going. Is innocent curiousity really that unacceptable? Well, innocent may be a misleading way to put it...

Anyways, I need to catch up to him with my real body to see him with my real eyes, so I'm going to fly over there now. Usually I'd use a broom to cover up the powers of witches, but now that I'm the only witch alive and I'm indisguise, there should be no issues if I just fly without one.

Jace

Arriving back at camp, I saw that Quartz had somehow been accumulating magic power despite the magic conversion prevention cuffs. As I began to draw, I decided to ask her about it.

----------------------------------------

Jace: "Quartz, how are you accumulating magic power?"

Quartz: "I don't know what you're talking about."

"You need to stop trying to lie when you have obvious tells."

"I have no tells; I'm a great liar."

"You are an aweful liar. Now, are you going to tell me or not?"

"..."

"If you tell me, I might just decide to remove that muzzle of yours."

"The cuffs d-do not work."

"Lying won't get you anything."

"The manacles are an imperfect magical item."

"What does that mean?"

"The manacles have loopholes in their primary functions."

"Oh, so I made mistakes when I made those?"

"You made these?!"

"Uh, yes?"

"Jace, how did you make magic items with visual spellcasting?"

"Does it really matter?"

"Yes, of course it matters! Such a feat should be impossible!"

"Well, I don't feel like answering the questions of an enemy."

"So, are you going to take off the manacles? You promised to never tell lies, right?"

"I said I might just decide to remove that muzzle of yours; I never said I would."

"That's simply semantics! You can't possibly use wordplay as an excuse!"

"...Oh, what was that? Sorry Rosie, James is calling, I'll have to get back to you later!"

"Wait a minute, does that mean that everytime he said that while James was alive... I hate that man with a passion."

Jace continued painting until it became too dark to see. As you might imagine, using light spells with visual casting is virtually impossible, so Jace went to sleep once he couldn't see what he was painting clearly.

Quartz

I always forget about Jace's few abnormalities. For one, his hearing is absolutely terrifying. Once long ago I woke up in the middle of the night and Jace appeared beneath my bed and popped out to ask if I was okay after hearing an unusual ruffling of my bed sheets. What even qualifies as an unusual ruffling of bed sheets?!

Another odd quality is Jace's imagination. Although he has a very vivid imagination, his memory is often lacking and he fails to make obvious connections. Whenever he sets his mind to it, he can come up with almost anything, but, more often than not, he cannot come up with the connections between ideas or concepts.

The final notable questionable characteristic that all of the Wanderers have noticed in Jace is his ability to not detect but see magic. Although raw magical energy without an assigned trait should be completely invisible to the naked eye, he can see raw magic without even enhancing his eyes.

Actually, that brings to mind a fourth trait that has only ever come up once. Jace is able to assimilate the raw magical energy of others. I do not know the specifics since, as I mentioned previously, I have only seen him do so once, but Jace, after being impaled with raw magical energy, grabbed the spear that no one but he could see and morphed the end facing his foe into a spear tip identical to the one in Jace's own torso before ripping the magic out of his chest and stabbing the attacker with the same spear that was supposed to slay Jace.

Now that Jace knows that I am able to accumulate raw magical energy, I wonder what actions he will take to prevent my escape? He seems preoccupied with whatever it is he is trying to do with all that paint, so he may simply not notice the connection between me manifesting magical power and me planning to escape. Well, that would definitely be the best scenario. I wonder if I would be able to get the jump on him whenever he goes to change the limbs those muscle exertion nullification cuffs to prevent any of my muscles from being out of comission for too long? He is a very wary person... well, I will just have to wait and see when the time is right.
