Chapter 21 - Battle for the King’s Bloody Throne

Chapter 21 - Battle for the King’s Bloody Throne

Cain made use the Farferis Knight’s hesitation to use a magic powered technique. He punched the floor with the Gauntlet.

The ground in front of him root cracked and the blue flame blasted out from the crack, followed by burst of explosions above it.

The technique was Earth Splitter combined with Flame Paradise. The Farferis Knights that caught on its range were burned, they were screaming in pain. Some even turned into ashes.

“Damn…” said Cain, it was actually unintentional to kill some of them.

Cain’s show of power made the Farferis Knights flinched. With just one technique, dozens of them fell down already.

A yellow streak was blitzing to Cain’s direction.

“That’s your trump card, eh!!!” Bartega swung down his greatsword with incredible speed, much faster than before.

Cain expected this, with calm yet sharp movement, he reflected Bartega’s greatsword with the Gauntlet’s ability.

“Ugh!?” Bartega didn't expect his greatsword would be bounced back.

With unbalanced stance because of the reflect, Bartega was wide open.

Cain clenched his right fist and threw a straight punch to Bartega’s solar plexus. It was Shattering Fist.

His fist broke through the lightning sparks on Bartega’s body, but his hand also got hurt in the process.

The lightning sparks weren't just for show, it was actually a high defense technique that would electrocute and whipped anything that came in contact with it.

Right before Cain hit him, Bartega was slightly jumped back, but due to his unbalanced stance, he couldn't fully evade Cain's attack. Although by jumping back he dampened the damage, he still received about half of the damage.

“That was a good punch! I feel it! Hah! To think a kid like you actually able to hit me while I’m in this stance. You’re truly dangerous!” said Bartega.

“...”

Cain looked into his right arm, it was numb and a bit burned here and there because of the lightning sparks.

No Farferis Knights around them dared to interfere. They clearly understood Cain’s level was as same as the Old Beast.

“I got a feeling you still haven't do your best, right?” said Bartega, not disturbed by the damage he received from Cain

“You haven't either.” Cain replied.

He clenchd his right fist tightly. A lightning sparked on his right arm. Then he moved his right arm to front and back with ease.

“You… overcame that!? That means, you also have a lightning magic!?” said Bartega in surprise.

“Who knows.” Cain took a stance with an axe on his right hand that he took from the ground.

“Hahaha! This is more than I expected!” Bartega stood up from his Beast stance. But the lightning sparks weren't gone from his body, instead those were growing more intense.

“I’m going to take that Gauntlet of yours, I realized your power and speed are increased after it appeared. Looks ancient… must be fetch a good price!”

“Greedy one, aren’t you?”

“Money keeps you alive,” Bartega grinned. “And one thing, who taught you to fight? It’s rare to see someone at your age so skillfully with combat.”

“I have teachers, can’t say who though.” Cain replied.

Cain actually learnt his weapon arts from the Book of Gomara. While Igo only taught him basic of many weapons, Cain polished his weapon masteries under the Book guidance.

“Heh, fine.”

Bartega held his greatsword with two hands. The edge of his greatsword turned into bright red, hot metal alike.

Cain had gotten cautious. All this time, Bartega always held his greatsword with one hand, and the swing from it was already strong and heavy. He couldn't imagine how dangerous the swing was now Bartega held it with two hands.

“This is my greatest technique. It’s called Hot Thunder Beast.”

After Bartega told Cain his technique’s name, the lightning sparks that surrounding him were getting more violent. Some of the sparks whipped the floor and left burning marks.

The Farferis Knights could only watch them, as their fight was not something they should interfere with.

Both of them stood still, whoever moved first would start the clash.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

With an instant dash and a vertical swing, Bartega’s greatsword almost split Cain in half if not for quick reflex of Cain.

But when Cain dodged to the left side, Bartega’s greatsword changed its direction to him in mid air, leaving a red streak in the air.

Cain jumped back, the slash slightly touched his leather armor on the chest part. While jumping back, he threw his axe. Again, Bartega’s greatsword changed direction and slashed the axe like a hot knife through butter.

Cain made a distance with that jump. He looked at the cut on his leather armor.

“(That is dangerous! He can change the sword’s direction in mid air!)” Cain thought to himself.

“This sword is my most prized reward from my Hunter days. It’s called Jirjax,” said Bartega. “And Zap Swing is the name of the direction changing technique, If you’re curious.” he added.

“Huh? You read my mind?” said Cain.

“Not really, your face says it all.”

“Hmm…” Cain wondered if the Azure Bone Gauntlet could repel Bartega’s greatsword cut capability. If it's not, then not only he could lose the Gauntlet, but also his left arm.

“Come on! Show me all of your trump cards, heheh!” Bartega grinned, he looked enjoying the fight.

Cain looked over Jared and Calbot direction. He must help them fast.

Cain actually had mastered many of magic and techniques from the Book of Gomara. But he never actually tested them in actual battle. After the Northfire Serpent incident, he was a bit reluctant to use his untested magic and techniques.

But he also realized, holding back was not an option. Because of holding back, he lost his dearests.

“(Should I use Marlork’s Hands or other high magic? No, it’s not efficient against someone as fast as him! I must bypass his Zap Swing somehow!)”

Cain took a stance with his both fist clenched.

“Come!” he shouted.

“Heh!” Bartega dashed towards Cain.

Cain dodged Bartega’s barrage of attack, while maintaining his range so he wouldn't get caught by the whipping lightning sparks.

“Dodging won't kill me, kid!!!”

While attacking Cain with his greatsword, Bartega’s lightning sparks area range was expanding to eventually the sparks also reached Cain.

Getting harder to dodge, Cain erected a thick stone wall. But it was not a match against Bartega’s Jirjax. He sliced it easy.

Finally, Bartega’s relentless attack especially the lightning sparks, made Cain stood open for a moment.

Bartega swung Jirjax with all his might horizontally, aimed at the neck. He wanted to finish this in one clean swing.

“(There goes my arm!)” that was what Cain thought when he reflexly put his guard up with the Gauntlet to parry the swing.

But no, the Gauntlet was successfully stopped the swing.

“Huh!?”

“What!?”

The greatsword Jirjax was managed to break through the reflect ability of the Gauntlet and cut about half an inch deep on the Gauntlet, also burn mark from the greatsword’s heat around the cut.

But, it's not enough to slice through it.

Cain jumped back to make a distance and from the raging lightning sparks.

Bartega just stood there. He looked shocked, but soon he grinned ear to ear.

“Huhu… hahahahahaha!” he laughed like a madman.

“Never in my lifetime, in my Hot Thunder Beast state, something or someone was able to defend against my attack!!!”

Cain didn't pay attention to Bartega. He just looked at the Gauntlet.

Then, blue flame rose up from the cut for three seconds. When the flame diminished, the cut was no longer there, even the burn mark. It was all clean.

“(This!? This is the same ability as Delmourga’s healing ability!)” gasped Cain in thought.

Bartega’s expression had gotten more wilder after seeing the cut on the Gauntlet got burned clean by the blue flame.

“Interesting! Oh, I’m not gonna sell it! I’ll use it myself!” said Bartega, he clearly had gotten more interested to the Gauntlet.

“(Weird, shouldn't it requires bones to heal? Like Delmourga did. Wait… don't tell me it took MY bones to heal itself!?)” Cain totally ignored Bartega and lost in thought.

“You should focus to your opponent, kid!!!”

Bartega leaped and swung down Jirjax with his full force.

“No choice but to bet on it!” Cain took a stance as he shouted. Caim reacted with an uppercut, not to Bartega, but to his greatsword.

Bartega realized Cain was targeting his greatsword. But when he was about to do Zap Swing, Cain also anticipated it. Burning blue flame shot out from the rear part of the gauntlet, boosting his uppercut power and speed.

The explosive power from the Gauntlet and Cain’s accuracy clashed with Jirjax.

The Azure Bone Gauntlet broke the greatsword Jirjax to pieces.

“Wha-!?”

Cain threw another punch with his right hand.

Bartega ate the punch in the face and was thrown into Farferis Knights crowd.

Cain’s right hand got more whipped burn marks because of the lightning sparks.

And Farferis Knights tasted it too. Because the lightning sparks were still enveloping Bartega's body when he was thrown to the crowd, it electrocuted the Farferis Knights around him.

“Akh!”

“Uugh!!!”

“Arrgh! G-go away!”

The Farferis Knights panicked. Scattered away from where Bartega landed.

Bartega just casually got up while the lightning sparks were still enveloping his body.

He looked at his broken greatsword. “Fuck! You broke my Jirjax!” said Bartega. He was angry.

Suddenly, a blue light flashed from the throne direction.

They shifted their attention to the light’s origin

“It worked!” Calbot held up the staff.

Calbot and the Sun Knight Order managed to get close enough to the throne for triggering the Staff of Mgre’s ability.

Another blue light flashed from the crystal on the staff. Three times the crystal flashed the lights. Then, the blue light illuminated the room.

All the fight in the room had stopped.

“What is this light?” both Sun Knight Order and Farferis Knights were confused as they stopped to attack each other.

Even Jared and Kaurev stopped their fight.

King Termura stood up, his hands were trembling. “Impossible! It was just a legend!”

King Termura was wide-eyed seeing the illuminating staff. He was aware that was the Staff of Mgre. He had seen in it in the book. But he did not realize it until the Staff shone.
