When they arrived at the main camp the next day, the knights cheered them, while Calbot held the staff high. Meira hugged Calbot right away, and they had a feast after that.
Cain also didn't forget to consume the Hineru stems when he got rest.
In the next morning, Cain was called to Calbot’s tent.
While having breakfast, they were planning the next step, reuniting the staff and the throne.
“We will just blast our way through to Haneama?” asked Cain.
“We don't have much choice, and Sun Knight Order is also in the wanted list. We can’t freely enter the city," Jared shrugged.
“Yeah, and we will do that tomorrow morning, we will march to Haneama while the knight’s morale is high," Calbot had a confident smile on his face.
Jared agreed. The morale of the knights were high because they brought back the staff and the treasure.
“Alright then, let's get ready for tomorrow. Don't forget to pack your things tonight," said Calbot. "Jared, announce this to the Order. I want them ready for the big day tomorrow.”
Cain and Jared left Calbot’s tent after their breakfast was done.
“What are you gonna do today, Cain?” asked Jared.
“Hmm… I’ll train a bit in the forest, I guess.”
“I see, hardworking one, aren’t you?”
Cain was just smiled. After all, hard work was the one that brought him to this day. He shouldn't just fooling around while his mind still remembered the moment Northfire Serpent refused to acknowledge him.
Jared went to announce the plan for tomorrow to his Order. Cain went to the quiet part of the forest. On his way out from the camp, the knights that saw him, bowed. And some of the female knights greeted him cheerfully upon seeing the Hunter, like he was some cool kid in the block.
Apparently, the knights that went with Cain to the temple were telling the knights in the camp how Cain stopped the source of the endless undead skeletons and found the treasure room. Also, how he bravely fought the undead skeletons and summoned what they thought was a Spirit Beast.
Thankfully, they didn't see the incident of Northfire Serpent.
In the Sun Knight’s eyes, Cain was a formidable young man they glad he was on their side.
In the forest, Cain sat on a big stone near a river. He was flipping the Book of Gomara.
He was still a little upset about the Northfire Serpent. The page about summoning Elemental Spirit Northfire Serpent was already gone. So he couldn't do anything except getting stronger so the Serpent would obey him.
He also thought about summoning the other Elemental Spirits. But he had to get stronger first, so the last incident wouldn’t happen again.
He opened the page about the bracelet. He hadn't found its use yet.
“Hmm… what are you hiding?” Cain gazed the bracelet.
“Maybe…”
Cain flowed his energy to the bracelet.
“Akh!!! What the!?” sharp pain hit his left wrist.
Cain saw just in a split second, the moment the bracelet received his energy, there was a blue spark, also the shape of the bracelet morphed, and morphed back to bracelet when he stopped because of the pain.
“Okay…” Cain put the book beside him.
He exhaled a deep breathe. Then he poured the bracelet again with his energy.
“Uughh!!!” Cain was enduring the sharp pain on his wrist.
The blue flame blazed on the bracelet, and the bracelet was morphing, covering his hand and forearm. Even though his arm was burning, he did not get burnt or felt hot.
Then, the blue flames diminished. Revealing a bone gauntlet that fully covered Cain’s left forearm to his fingers.
“So… this is your true form, huh?” Cain wiped his forehead. After the flames diminished, he no longer felt any pain.
A light shone from the Book of Gomara.
Cain excitedly took the book. A new page had been appeared after the bracelet page.
This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
“Azure Bone Gauntlet. The gauntlet of Boneking holds truly immense power, and its growth depends on the wearer.”
Cain inspected the gauntlet. It was very light, as if he wore nothing on his left hand. It had sharp pointy fingers, but they didn't get in the way when he clenched his fist.
Although it was called Azure Bone Gauntlet, the color of the gauntlet was white, Azure represented the blue flame it emitted.
Cain tapped on the gauntlet. The gauntlet was solid and sturdy. When Cain stood up, he felt his body became very light. The gauntlet also empowered his entire body.
“This is great!”
Cain was so excited he didn't realize there was a Giantclaw Great Bear across the river.
“Whoah!!!” Cain was startled, he saw the 2.7 meters tall bear crossed the river, approaching him. On its mouth, a half-dead otter, for its meal. But now it found a larger prey, it threw the otter to the side.
Just like its name, Giantclaw Great Bear had an enormous size front leg claws. It stood on two legs and roared.
“Perfect! I can test this gauntlet right away!”
The bear run towards Cain. He stood guard. Its sharp claws were the first to reach Cain.
Cain let the claws hit the gauntlet. The moment the claws hit the gauntlet, it repelled back the bear’s claws.
“(Ooh! The same as Delmourga’s ability! Now, to test its power!)” thought Cain.
Burning blue flames were blazing out from the gauntlet side edge.
Cain punched the bear in the chest. With an explosion of blue flame, Cain obliterated everything in a large area in front of him. A fan shaped ground was burning with blue flames. Trees were devastated as the lower part of the bear tumbled to the ground.
“That was… overkill!”
Cain looked to the gauntlet. “I guess I hit a jackpot…” he grinned.
Cain concentrated his mind on the gauntlet, then, it morphed back into a bracelet form with the same process as when he summoned it. But without any pain this time.
He approached the half-dead otter.
“Hmm…”
He took the otter and put it on the stone. The otter was breathing slowly, its life was fading away.
Cain quickly took some herbs from the surrounding area and grinded them. Washed the wounds and put the grinded herbs to the wounds.
The otter was looking at Cain weakly while Cain wrapping the wound with a wide leaf.
“Alright, that should do it, sorry, I haven't learned any healing magic," Cain petted the otter.
Cain put the otter behind the stone, under large tree roots. So no predator would take the advantage. Also, the leaf could hide the blood smell of the wound. He also put some fruits beside it.
“Sorry, I only put fruits, can't let another bear smell the fish if I put one.”
Cain stroked his chin for a moment.
“What am I talking to animal… oh well.”
Then, he looked at the ground and the trees that he blew. The blue flame was still burning them.
With his hand movement, he raised the water from the river to extinguish the fire. He just used a water manipulation magic.
The Book of Gomara made a 180 degree-turn on his lack of magical talent. Igo told Cain that he would have to spend decades to even use the basic magic. But with Cain’s hardwork and unusual ways that were discovered by Gomara, he proved the opposite.
Like the Jet Punch technique, Gomara tweaked a bit with its movement, and the result was far stronger version of it, Shattering Fist. The same as magic, Gomara discovered ways to make it learnable even by the talentless.
But the drawback was Cain would take a longer time to master them than even the average people, but much faster than decades, with better results than the geniuses.
As long as he kept practicing diligently, the Book of Gomara promised him unimaginable power.
After that, Cain changed the place to train, to get used to his new gauntlet.
He got back when the sun was about to set.
The camp was tidier than before, the knights were preparing for tomorrow’s march.
Cain went back to his tent, and sat in front of it. He pulled out Higa’s book. With a pencil, Cain was sketching passing by knights.
One of Higa’s dreams was to become an artist. With Higa’s book on his hand now, he would try to become one himself. Cain felt he shouldered the responsibility for Higa and Lexa’s death. So, he’s trying to fulfill their dreams instead.
Some knights approached him.
“Cain, we would like to start a bonfire, care to join us?” a male knight asked him, while two female knights behind him were blushing when they saw Cain.
“Ah, sure!” Cain smiled.
The female knights looked happy when Cain accepted their invitation.
The bonfire was already lit up when they arrived. The knights greeted him warmly.
“Oh, Cain, you came?” said Jared, he sat near the bonfire.
“Yo!” Cain sat beside Jared. The female knights also sat close to Cain.
“Drink?” Jared offered Cain a mug of mead.
“I don't drink alcohol," said Cain.
“Huh? Why?” Jared frowned. The other knights were also surprised.
“Uhh… well, it makes you drunk, and drunk makes you vulnerable," said Cain with a straight face.
“Bahahahah! Look at him! He’s so serious!” Jared and the knights burst into laughter.
“Quit teasing him, will ya? Here kiddo," an old man offered him a plate of lamb meat. The smell was so good Cain took the plate without any second thought.
Cain took a bite.
“This is so good!” he said.
“Hahahah! Of course! He’s the best! Our field chef!” Jared gulped the mead from his mug.
“I’m Norja, a pleasure to meet you, Cain. I've heard so much about you just within days of your arrival here!” The chef called Norja hand shook with Cain.
Cain just smiled.
“I’m Rinrai!”
“I’m Marna!”
The female knights took the opportunity to introduce themselves.
The other knights also introduced themselves to Cain.
They laughed and enjoyed the moment. Calbot and Meira later joined them.
Most of the knights got drunk and started dancing. Cain slipped away to a secluded place, he consumed three Hineru stems.
After three hours, he went back to his tent. He lay down inside his tent, staring at the bracelet.
“What a day, huh?” he closed his eyes, and slept soundly.
