Chapter 10 - Sorrow

Chapter 10 - Sorrow

Cain and Igo walked through a door near the throne. Igo waved his hand to Dios, so no one would interrupt them.

Both of them stood on the terrace. Because the Palace was built on the high ground, the city landscape greeted them.

They both gazed over the city illuminated by the crystals. A beautiful view only the Palace residence could have.

“I’m sorry about what happened to Higa and Lexa. Wish I could see them one more time. I also should apologize, for I am the one who ordered Kingsmight to handle the smugglers," said Igo.

Cain leaned against the railing. “Why did you left us?” he asked.

He didn't really care about Igo’s apology. He had a sad look on his face, he felt empty, his vengeance had been fulfilled. But he also failed to keep his promise to Higa.

“I have duties, I can’t keep relying on Dios to attend my Kingdom," Igo’s face showed a regret.

“Why don't you just said you are the King to us?”

“How you will talk to me back then if I told I am the King? After the Queen died, only Dios that never cares about my position as the King, he talked to me casually like a friend, only when there's no one of course. Then I found these carefree kids that did not know their King, they talked to me casually, you, talked to me casually. You even called your King, “old man”," Igo smiled lightly.

“Would you still talk to me casually if I told you I am the King when we first met?” Igo continued.

“I… see,” Cain paused a bit. “I will, probably, but Lexa and Higa absolutely won’t. But why don't you just visit us time to time?”

“Well… I’m afraid I’m gonna leave my duties too long again.”

Both of them smiled wryly.

“You know… Lexa and Higa were getting married, next year," said Cain while gazing at the city.

Igo’s eyes widened, he just couldn’t believe what he heard.

“No, I’m not kidding," said Cain.

“Ooh Goddess…” Igo covered his face with his hand.

Night wind blew over them, silence filled the air.

“I always treat you all like my own children, those seven years I spent with you all… is so much fun, and it’s one of the best," Igo sighed and smiled.

Cain understood this when he realized Igo was the King where they met again in the Throne Hall. Current King of Arozora didn't have any offspring. He also felt Igo was always nice to them, like a father to his children, just like how Aunt Germi treated them. Except when they were in training, he’s ruthless.

“How’s your training?” Igo changed the topic to escape from the sad atmosphere.

“My training? Hmm… I just wrecked your Kingsmight, didn’t I?” Cain smiled a bit.

“Hah! It's as I expected! There's no way my disciple would lose!” Igo laughed. “But, since when you can cast magic?”

There's no record that a person who wasn't blessed by even manipulation elemental magic could learn creation magic. Heroes from ancient times always showed their talents from a young age. This made Igo curious, because from when Igo left them, Cain never showed any improvement for magic.

Cain smiled and gazed over the city.

“Hard work, what else?” responded Cain.

“Higa and Lexa knew this?”

“Nope, you always said to never use a trump card easily, which is ironic… if I used my full power from the start, they could’ve been alive right now.”

“You shouldn't blame yourself for this.”

Sad atmosphere filled the air again.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Old man, why don't you just execute me? Higa died on my back, and Lexa on my arms. It’s like… my whole world is falling apart," said Cain.

The death of his two best friends struck him hard.

“How can I execute my own disciple!? Besides, from the time I spent with you guys, I realize you all are bound to leave this Kingdom eventually. You all have free spirit, craving the outside world. That's why I banish you.”

“You saw us through, huh?” Cain smiled lightly.

“I know you want to help Aunt Germi, and give her a better life, Kingmisght might be the best option, but you will be always bound here. I always remember when we first met, you said you wanted to be an adventurer and how your eyes lit up when I talked about outside places. I realized the Kingsmight won't suit you, even though I told you to try for it. That's why I sabotage your registration form.”

Even though Kingsmight often went outside for an expedition, they wouldn't go too far in case something were to happen within the Kingdom.

“Ahh… it makes sense now why I was disqualified,” Cain scratched his head. “But, I might disagree if Higa and Lexa were still here, I don’t mind always live here as long as they are happy about it.”

“I’m sure they want to see the world too. But I never thought it would end like this," said Igo.

“I just... hope it's just a dream, all of this.”

Igo walked towards Cain and slapped him hard.

“Really, kid!? I never taught you to be so whiny! You can still fight! So it's too early to jump off the cliff!” he said.

“Yeah, yeah! I hear you! Dang, that sting!” Cain rubbed his red right cheek. “Anyway, I’m gonna bury them tomorrow morning at the hill near the place we used to use for our training, the view is good there.”

“I see… that’s a good spot, I’ll be there,” said Igo. “I will order Ivela to investigate about those seven thoroughly. I hope this will help you to ease your mind," he continued.

“Doesn't matter, it won't bring them back… damn it!” said Cain. he clenched his fist.

“You’ve grown, eh? Igo looked at Cain.

Cain only responded with a little smile. “I should go back, I owe an explanation to some people,” said Cain.

Igo smiled lightly. “See you tomorrow," said he.

Cain nodded as he left the terrace and its beautiful night view.

Only Dios, Bagulv and Ivela were still in the Throne Hall.

Cain took the Eagle’s Talon he left. Then, Bagulv came to him.

“First, I’d like to apologize to you on behalf of the Kingsmight," Bagulv extended his hand for a handshake.

Cain took his hand firmly.

“No problem.”

“As expected of the King’s disciple, your grip is strong indeed," said Bagulv.

Cain smiled lightly.

“You should let him go home, Bagulv. He had a rough day," Dios also came to them with Ivela behind him.

“Ahh, I didn't mean to-”

“I also apologize for my incompetence in leading my squad," Ivela stepped forward and cut his brother’s words and slightly bowed.

“That’s alright," said Cain.

The tension from before was already gone. Bagulv also calmly talked to Cain without any resentment.

“Oh yeah, there’s something I forgot to tell to the old-I mean the King," said Cain. “When I was in Makkir, I heard people talking about that the King sent a group of Kingsmight to handle the smugglers. If the smugglers were happen to hear it first, They could have avoided the Kingsmight assault," Cain explained.

Ivela, Bagulv and Dios looked at each other.

“That’s… actually a valuable information," said Ivela.

“So we have rats in the Palace," whispered Dios.

“Hmm… probably," Bagulv replied.

“Alright then, I should go back," said Cain. What they talked about was no longer his concern.

“Thank you, Cain, for the information," said Ivela.

Cain nodded and left them.

“Igo’s disciple is really something,” Dios couldn't help but smile. “Not many will show that kind of care after what happened. The King taught him well about self restraint and courtesy," said Dios.

“True," said Bagulv.

“It’s really a shame someone like him is banished, moreover, his friends, the King said himself that his dead friends also on par with the Kingsmight’s top ten," Dios spoke to Bagulv and Ivela while watching Cain’s back.

“I’m not surprised, they were the disciples of King Iligo after all," said Ivela.

“But that young man, King Iligo was also surprised at him," said Dios.

“What do you mean?” asked Ivela.

“When King Iligo left them, that young man, Cain, supposed to have no talent at magic at all.”

“And here he was, wrecked my sister’s squad with techniques and magic strange to us,” said Bagulv, also curious about Cain. “And from our handshake before, I can feel something very deep inside of him, like a bottomless ocean," Bagulv looked at his hand.

“Well, it's a rough day for the Kingsmight as well. You should go back and rest," said Dios as he walked, leaving them.

Dios stopped and turned to Ivela. “Oh yeah, Ivela, you can use the Palace Guest Room for a while.”

Because the West Base the place she lived in was in rubble, Ivela had no place to sleep. She could go to her family’s house but it’s too far.

“Okay! Thank you, Dios!”

Dios nodded and left them.

“See you, brother," said Ivela to Bagulv.

“Yeah, night.”
