Chapter 7: Holographic Screen Suspended in Air

Chapter 7: Holographic Screen Suspended in Air

While walking in the forest, the two little monkeys helped Jason occasionally. They mostly liked to pick up the silver and gold coins that were sometimes dropped when he killed some wild animal. It wasn't many times; only 5 wild animals in total tried to fight back when Jacob stopped them from hunting other smaller animals.

The little monkeys couldn't go into battle since they were only level 1. Perhaps their level would go up when Jacob signed a contract with them and let them stay in the Contract Space? The Contract Space was a farm, and even though he only saw it in miniature, Jacob realized that there were vegetables and other things that could be eaten. Although he was curious to know how efficient it would be if the contracted animals would be able to eat from the foods growing there, he also wanted to try to see if it was possible for a contracted animal to get something out of it. Otherwise, it was whatever - as long as the hired animals could get stronger faster and help him in the future.

"We are almost out of the forest," Jacob said softly, "Don't be surprised to see people like me. Some may even try to get close to you since you are so adorable, but don't try to get too close. There can always be people with bad intentions."

*Sing, sing…*

The two white-headed capuchin monkeys opened their mouths showing their large teeth while making a hissing sound. Despite their being smart, Jacob still made gestures trying to be similar to what he said. After all, it must be the first time that these little monkeys have had contact with humans; it would be strange if they understood everything he said.

"Hahaha, no need to worry too much. I'm still strong, am I not? As long as you are by my side, nothing bad will happen," Jacob said. He used his cheek to rub the faces of the two little monkeys when he felt that they trembled a little.

The forest was almost over, and he was already able to see the dirt road. When he was about to leave and enter the road, Jacob stopped and looked at his status and thought about a couple things.

'It's getting harder and harder to level up. It would be easier to level up if I could already do dungeons, but I'm still not strong enough, and I don't want to take any chances. Leaving that aside, there are still quests, however, it's not easy to find quests right now. Only after the first month did the quests appear more frequently...'

Even though he knew he was at an advantage compared to other people in the entire world, that wouldn't stop him from being greedy. The more he managed to gain an advantage, the better it would be for him in the future.

It was no use thinking that if you didn't seek death, you wouldn't die. It might work, though one never knew when someone random was going to just hate you just because they didn't like something about you.

This was the same case with one of his neighbors: ever since they met, Jacob had been hated by him for no reason. There was nothing he had done to make this man hate him, because when they first saw each other, he had just moved in and Jacob simply greeted him kindly, however, he was returned by a cold look and even some hateful words.

["You disgusting bastard, do I know you?"]

Jacob at that time was confused by Maicon's reaction and felt silent, a little stunned. With a mocking look, Maicon spat on the ground and left with his hands in his pockets.

Remembering that scene, Jacob simply shook his head. As long as Maicon didn't do anything serious to him, that was fine. However, if he tried to go overboard... Well, Jacob was more than willing to teach him a lesson.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Huh?"

Jacob thought he was seeing things, as he could have sworn across the road, he was seeing a holographic screen suspended in mid-air. With his good eyesight, he saw that something was written on the blue screen, but he was not close enough to make out anything legible as it was in small print.

Jacob arrived in front of the screen suspended in the air. Now he was able to read what was written.

[Missing Children].

Upon seeing what was written, Jacob gritted his teeth as he slammed his mouth shut. Yes, he remembered now... It was kind of vague, but he remembers that an incident had happened in the city he was in now. Only a few months later, a house would be found near the forest, in a more isolated place. It was a farm, but, as it was a less civilized land, there were no neighbors nearby. Inside the farm, some bones were found that were used to identify the children. The flesh... It was not putrefying but taken away. Jacob didn't see any more news about this case because by that time he was already on the run, therefore it wasn't something he had time to keep up with.

Upon seeing what was written, Jacob remembered all of this and thought what was written might be because of the news he had seen, but he wasn't sure and clicked.

[Congratulations, you found a trace of a quest. A special quest has been triggered: (Missing Children). Would you like to accept it?]

"Yes."

[Special Mission: Missing Children]

Mission Objective: Investigate

Someone is kidnapping the children of San Diego City. Investigate and find out who is behind it.

Note: Whoever is behind this has already managed to kidnap more than 5 children so far.

__

Reward:???

__

'A mystery reward...' Jacob took a deep breath. Aside from being an unspecified reward, it was almost certainly related to the case he saw in his previous life.

A mystery reward was a name given by people after completing some quests with a '???' reward.

It was not exactly wrong for it to be called a mystery reward, as the reward was determined by what the user did. Depending on the performance when completing the mission, the reward had an extreme variety of possibilities, even having a chance of failing if you didn't do something meaningful for the mission.

[Congratulations to the player [Aphrodite A] on obtaining a grand prize from ]

Upon seeing this, Jacob smiled. He knew that nickname. It was none other than his little sister, Abel. Although he never got around to making peace with his parents in the last iteration, he had still spoken to Abel and found out her nickname.

How exactly she had gotten this chest, he had no idea, but considering her strength, and even his parents', it was not strange that she had an advantage after he explained to her how to see quests.

'I still have no signal, and I don't even want to risk communicating with her without being in person...'

Jacob put his smartphone away. Even though he was already out of the woods, the signal was still low. At best he could make calls, but he had a more important matter at hand.

As he put the smartphone away, Jacob saw the green line indicating his target.

'Even for quests like this, can I figure out where to go?' It was simply too advantageous.

Jacob knew the importance of this. If in an investigation mission it gave him directions, it was not different from other missions, apart from the fact that the rewards could be much more rewarding, since it was a mystery mission.

Not panicking, Jacob considered everything. It was then that he told the two little monkeys to get down, and looking at them, he said, "I'm going to do something that could be dangerous. For the safety of both of you, I have a proposal... "

Jacob tried to be as clear as possible. It was impossible for the two little monkeys to understand everything he said, however, they understood that by doing so, they could be together forever by Jacob's side. They didn't want to part with each other or part with their savior, so they agreed.

Upon seeing this, Jacob prepared everything. He believed that with 50% of the (Contract Space) plus the tamer skill, it was almost certain that he would succeed, as he knew that he had increased affinity with these two little monkeys.

At first, Jacob looked in all directions to know that no one was around. After confirming that there was no other people, he started.

[Animal Tamer]

The instant he made a motion towards one of the white-faced capuchin monkeys, a star shape inside a circle started to spin faster and faster. Jacob noticed that the Contract Space appeared next and a red line connected to the contracted circle, thus making the surrounding circle turn red while a yellow star rotated in the middle.

Knowing the one he had contracted was a female, he wrote: Aurora.

The instant he finished choosing, he saw Aurora close her eyes, appearing to be on the receiving end of something.

Jacob was happy. He wasn't expecting that he would also win a title. He opened the statuses and clicked on the title.

[((Beginner Animal Tamer)): Gain 1% more EXP for each animal on the battlefield; The passive title does not need to be equipped to be under effect.]

"Incredible!" Jacob couldn't help but say this out loud. It didn't matter that it was only 1%, that was already a lot in the long run, especially if he had several contracted animals fighting with him.

He then hugged the little monkey and kissed its cheek. It was all thanks to her. Seeing that the other little monkey was getting jealous, Jacob did the same for her and laughed.

After that, he turned to the little monkey that still didn't have a contract with him and did the same process.

Looking at the other little monkey, he thought of an anime he saw once and ended up choosing the name Yuki.

Afterward, Jacob used Contract Space, pulling Yuki and Aurora inside. Seeing that it worked, he could see that inside, the two were confused, but soon they looked happy while making similar bird sounds.

Jacob smiled but soon turned serious. Now that that was taken care of, he had to think about the mission.
