Chapter 11: Killing the Boss

Chapter 11: Killing the Boss

Jacob now had access to the Labyrinth Shop. In the lower corner in front of him, there was a panel where it showed the items. Despite that, he hadn't bought anything yet.

The items released for the current floor he was on in the Labyrinth were consumable items, stat-boosting items, or low-grade health potions.

Turning his attention from the screen, Jacob looked forward and saw four undead skeletons wearing pieces of blue cloth. There were four level 16 Mighty Undead holding rusty swords. If it were possible, Jacob would have wanted to steal a sword, but it was not possible unless it dropped as an item when killing the monster.

These undead were incredibly fast; they had at least 30 speed but low defense. Of course, compared to Jacob's speed which reached 51, this speed was actually slow.

With firm steps, Jacob moved very fast!

*Whoosh!*

Out of 4, three froze. The one which didn't freeze, Jacob attacked first by jumping. With increased damage when using Brass Knuckles, he broke the Mighty Skeleton with two attacks using his fists, delivering a flurry of punches to the Mighty Skeleton's chest.

With a few more jabs, Jacob attacked the Mighty Skeleton on the left side which was still frozen.

The Mighty Skeleton shattered with the two attacks, then turned into particles and dropped a gold coin. The two remaining skeletons thawed out, however, Jacob did not retreat, but advanced and struck with a powerful punch to the head of the one on the left.

[Health -215]

Holding swords, the skeletons made strange clicking sounds and attacked Jacob. He dodged twice and replied by attacking the left one's blind spot again.

Ducking as he dodged the Mighty Skeleton's vertically slashing sword, Jacob kicked out with his foot, knocking it off balance, then struck again with his fist from above as it tried to right itself.

'Finished...'

Jacob took the 15 silver and 1 gold coins and went to the next floor. The Ruthless Skeletons were at level 16 as well. It was quick for Jacob to kill them all. Unfortunately, he only got 21 silver coins and 96 EXP from all of them.

Upon reaching the next floor, Jacob faced 4 Angry Skeletons at level 19. Luckily, they hadn't reached level 20 yet.

Jacob went into stealth mode and approached.

The instant he got really close, he attacked one of the skeletons very fast, attacking twice.

[Cold Breath]

When the skeletons noticed him, Jacob froze them, or most of them. At least two froze while one of the skeletons attacked him with the sword.

*Whoosh!*

*Bang!*

Jacob dodged to the side as he twisted his body, and upon returning, he punched the skeleton's jaw.

[Critical!]

Jacob's eyes gleamed when he saw the damage in red. Seeing that the skeleton was stunned, he attacks again with a kick.

As the two skeletons were still frozen, Jacob only needed 4 hits to kill them both.

'An item!'

From the last skeleton he killed and turned into particles, a boot was left. Jacob took it and assessed it.

__

[Boot made from Angry Skeleton bones (Low Quality)]

Strength +2

__

'Well... At least I didn't have a boot yet...'

That boot was incredibly uncomfortable to wear, but at least he wasn't an ordinary person, and that level of discomfort was nothing if it was going to increase his strength by 2.

Taking the two gold and eight silver pieces, Jacob went to the next floor, which had more Level 19 Furious Skeletons.

This time, Jacob was able to kill these skeletons even faster. He was already getting used to fighting them. They dropped 11 silver coins and 1 gold, and Jacob moved to the 15th floor.

The boss on this floor was Looth the Cursed, a 210 cm sorcerer undead skeleton. Strangely, the boss's bones were reddish and he had blue cloth rags covering some parts of his body. The magic staff the boss held was almost as tall as himself.

Looth the Cursed was level 24 and had 1500 health.

"Sigh~"

Jacob knew this would be work. Despite being slow, Looth's spells were area damage. It was difficult to dodge them in time.

'If I were to level up after killing Looth, I wouldn't mind taking some damage, however, I'm still far from that, and I won't even be rewarded for passing floors 15 first. Now, that only happens on floors 20, 30, 40, etc...'

Although he had the choice of using a healing potion, and he had a lot of gold, Jacob wanted to save for the moment and spend it on something more important. If possible, he didn't want to spend any just yet, but just in case, Jacob spent 1,000 gold buying 10 low-quality healing potions.

'Very well, I'm ready!'

As it was a boss, freezing it was not an option. If that were possible, Jacob wouldn't have been so worried.

However, his own health was almost as large as the boss's. He just needed to not be stupid, die in here, and lose 1 level because of it. All things considered, Jacob waited for stealth mode to cool down before using it again.

'Although I wanted to level up Aurora, bringing her here is too dangerous...'

Even with the undead skeletons, he didn't bring her out of the Contract Space; any attack Aurora took would be her death. Although her stats had gone up by acquiring a bloodline, she was still at level 1.

'After killing this boss, I'll go back and sleep a little, then I'll see if I can find some easy missions that help Aurora and Yuki level up.'

Minutes later...

[Encourage]

At the same time he used the buff, Jacob went into stealth mode. Honestly, Jacob was aiming at the boss's hand that held the magic staff and wanted to make him lose the staff, however, it was almost impossible. For now, he wasn't strong enough for such a feat...

'Maybe if I get a critical hit...'

[Health -231]

"Shit!" Jacob swore.

The boss had noticed Jacob, raised the hand that was attacked, and started to cast a skill. In front of the magic staff, a dark fireball started to form.

Jacob took the opportunity to attack twice with quick punches.

Jacob's eyes stayed sharp as he backed away, but even after he dodged, he was caught in the fireball splash that landed where he was standing before.

"Fuck!"

Knowing the boss's casting time was slow, Jacob charged forward again.

This time Jacob didn't back down. He remembered something. Unfortunately, it was something that was used when low level, and in his case, the most vivid memories he remembered from the other life were when he was already above level 50 and didn't need such tricks.

Just as the boss was about to launch another attack at him, Jacob charged toward the boss, passing by him. When the lightning magic fell to the ground, other lightning fell in sequence, however, it was all frontal, and nothing splattered on the back side of the boss.

"You're finished."

Jacob attacked from behind with a high kick that caught the boss's shoulder.

"Sigh~"

Jacob took a deep breath and sighed. He still felt pain from the splash of black fire that had caught him earlier. Considering hard, Jacob took a healing potion and drank it in one gulp. Gradually, the burn marks on his body faded as his life filled to near full.

'I should get about 10 life automatically per hour. I'll go back and rest a bit; then I'll continue.'

There was no way to calculate the life cooldown when resting, as he didn't know what degree of self-recovery health potion he currently had, but taking everything into consideration, he thought that sleeping was enough to be brand new... It also wasn't worth spending another healing potion to recover so little health.

After the boss finished dissolving into particles and disappeared, two gold coins and a dagger were left behind.

Taking the gold coins, and putting them away, Jacob looked at the dagger which was 19.1 cm and had a thickness of 2.4 mm. It was reddish with a small bend.

__

[Looth's Cursed Dagger (Medium Quality)]

Attack +60

Agility +20

Special Ability: Envelops itself / the user in black flames and has a chance to cause burns to enemies for up to 5 seconds; 15 damage is dealt every 1 second (Envelops the dagger in black flames until the magic power runs out).

__

"Hehe... A dagger is perfect for me who already has a one-handed weapon, and it even causes burns as a special skill..."

Jacob was more than satisfied with this dagger made of reddish bone. He put the dagger in his inventory as he went over to the nearby chest.

Opening the chest, Jacob saw several gold coins.

[Congratulations, you obtained: 10,000 Gold Coins]

'Excellent! Now, I'm going to go back and get some sleep...'

With a satisfied look, Jacob opened the portal out of the Labyrinth.
