Journey of Aviary Remnant
A Man Who Leveled Up

A Man Who Leveled Up

The man was currently in combat, his wooden sword was sticking out of the sickly pale looking creature. It was scrawny with beady black eyes, and teeth sharp and yellow. And there was 3 of them.

So far he'd managed to only hurt one of them, that one was bleeding out currently, and one of the other two decided to try biting his arm. It hurt sure, but it didn't do much to him aside from hurt, his health stayed pretty much the same, although he'd lost around 10 at this point.

The man grabbed the sword that had been shanked into the first one, twisting as he pulled out, with a bit of a swip down at the end, which managed to disembowl the creature, the shrieks of which were giving him a headache. He then stabbed the one chewing on him through the throat, and was relieved when it fell to the ground gurgling.

The last one decided to act and threw itself at his face, although all it got was a weapon cutting it down the middle, disembowling it amongst other things.

'Welp. I need to go wash myself off again now.' The man had been looking through alleyways for small hidden sections of the city, and had stumbled across the hideous creatures, of whom attacked him immediately. He was lucky that his sword was pointed out and the first one had run into it.

The man reached towards the creature.

[Goblin Corpse]

- the only good goblin is a dead one... this one is very good.

'A goblin hum? Nasty things.' The man then got another notification.

'So I need to increase the physical stats together. The mental stats together, and Charisma and Will I can increase independantly...' The man nodded to himself for a moment. 'I'll use 7 points to increase dexterity to 15 and strength to 10 and the increase intelligence to 9... good.'

'Why is my Endurance Null?' The man wondered

[You are undead, and thus never tire and never need to recover]

'But what about my hit points?'

[You will get them back over time at a rate of 21 per hour.]

'That's... It's tied to my Will?'

[Yes]

'That's useful information...' The man sighed finally returning his attention back to the surroundings.

He was in a small courtyard with 2 story buildings all around. The walls were covered in ivy and grasses had long since over taken the brickwork. The only other thing was the fountain in the middle.

The fountain was simply a large bowl structure with a bird statue hunched over it, with drops of water dripping down it's beak and into the full pool of water.

The man looked at the water and then down at himself and decided to clean himself up with the water. He touched the water, and fell back in shock and terror while screaming. His hands looked like they had been melted a bit by the water, almost like an acid.

[You've discovered Phoenix water]

-Holy and strong, if any undead touch it, it's sure to burn.

'Damn! Shit! Fuck! It hurts so much, what the hell!?'

He could see his finger bones, and a quick glance at his hp showed he was down about 40 more points, about a 6th of his health.

[Repeated exposure to the holy element will grant resistance]

'You want me to touch that shit again?!'

[Yes... tehe]

'Tehe?'

[Ehem]

[Yes]

The man sighed, and directed a glare at the text, before he diped his flinger, bone still exposed, into the water. It didn't take long to regret this decision, as it felt like he had put his finger into acid, although by all rights he shouldn't be feeling anything with the lack of nerves and muscle on his finger.

'Mother of- mmm!' The man groaned in pain

He stood there for a while, with his finger in significalant amounts of pain for quite a while, before he finally got the skill.

[Passive Skill _Holy Resistance I earned]

_Holy Resistance I reduces damage from Holy Element by 5%

The man wasn't sure it was quite worth his pain and trouble. But it was already too late to do anything about it now. He sighed as he left the small courtyard, never wanting to see it again.

The man wandered for a while longer, eventually finding himself back at the library, and he quietly entered. His hands hadn't recovered entirely, but he figured they were well enough to read a boom or two, so he decided to make some progress on the Alchemy books he'd picked up as well as find a new book to read.

He walked down an aisle he hadn't yet walked down.

'Myths and Metals: An anthology, Metals and Me, Tools of the Trade: Smithing, Anvils and How to Use Them, How to Train Your Bellows...'

The man saw a few interesting books, but just decided to pick up a couple of beginners guides and material books, he knew where a few smithys were located, so he figured he could try it out.

He went and found a comfortable spot on the ground near the desk that was probably once ment to house a librarian. He read about the history of Alchemy and how it evolved from a dark art into a profession envied by all. About homunculi and catalysts. About elixers and brews. And finally different flames.

By the time he'd finished he had already healed to full, and the 3 inch book was closed. He then decided to read his smithing books as well.

Learning about the various uses of anvils, how to work a bellow, how to work with certain materials, what temperatures were needed to melt certain things, etc.

With knowledge fresh in his mind the man stood up. He had come to realize how useful learning different crafts could be, and planned to learn some tailoring next.

He did eventually find a few books about it, with diagrams and details on how to achieve different threading patterns. And what needles were good for what, the best kinds of materials for different things. He found himself rather invested in all of these different crafts all of a sudden.

Best of all, at least to the man, he was immortal, so he could learn all of them if he so wanted to.

'First thing first, I need to make a good needle to sew, so I need to smith some things.' The man thought to himself, and got up and ran out of the library.
