The man stood in front of a different building, he wore no shoes, nor a shirt. He did have pants as well as a vest however.
The building he found himself in front of was a 2 story large brick building, on the sign it read "First Flame Library".
A place of knowledge, at least to the man, made sense. He woke up knowing nothing aside from basic language and about birds, so it became evident that the man should expand his knowledge a little bit.
Walking in, the smell of dust was the first thing to hit the man, followed by the musk that cones with books sitting for so long in one place. Overall it was a very ancient feeling, one that demanded respect.
The man gave the respect to this building, feeling like if he didn't behave he'd somehow be punished, even though no other person seemed to live in the entire city.
He meandered through the bookshelves, reading spine after spine. It was a dizzying amount of books, easily over a couple thousand.
'Yarns of Barns: A Tale of the Heroic Pig, A Suspicious Lack of Horses, Salvos, Tree of Aeons... so many books, but not the kind I am looking for currently...' The man thought to himself as he moved to a different section of the library.
'Alchemy for dum-dums, An Analytical Analysis about Alchemy, History of Alchemy, Tools of the Trade: Book 3, Alchemy...' The man looked at these books, and decided to grab the history book, he could come back for more if he wanted them.
He then went to the next section.
'Phoenix, The History of the First Flame, Retribution, Apothes, Wrath, Origin...' The man paused for a bit, 'What's with all these one word titles?' He decided to grab one of the books.
[You have come into contact with an object related to the Phoenix. Would you like to return the object?]
These words appeared again. He decided that he would return the book after a moment, and the book vanished into thin air.
'What happened to the book?'
[The Book 'Origin' was returned to the Temple]
'That building on the mountain?' The man asked.
[Yes]
'I see...' the man decided to reach out towards the next book, 'Retribution'.
[You have encountered an object related to the Phoenix. Would you like to return it?]
'No.' The man opened the book, which discussed the Phoenix Retribution, and displayed records of its accomplishments. 'So a Phoenix... what is it?'
[The Phoenix is a creture unbound by life and death, every time a Phoenix dies, it burns to ash and all the life force that it had left forms into an egg, where it will inherit its previous iterations memories as soon as it hatches]
'So it's effectively immortal.'
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
[Yes]
'I see. May I return this?'
The book vanished from his hands and he grabbed the other books, 'Apothes' and 'Wrath' doing the same to them.
[You have gathered 5 Items relates to the Phoenix, unlocking the sub-space feature. Every 5 items increase the objects you can store by 1. Current capicity 1]
'That seems useful.'
The man left the section of books he was in, and began debating leaving the library. He hadn't gone very far from the mountain yet, and hadn't explored much of the area, so he feared that there may be something dangerous somewhere in the city. Perhaps it would be best to arm himself...?
With a nod to himself the mand left the library and looked around for a blacksmith. The first few were a bust, but he did eventually find a weapon smiths.
Most of the items were rusted, although there was a sword that stood out to the man.
[Fragment of Life]
-A wooden sword made from bark of the Tree of Life. It automatically repairs itself over time, and is uncannily sharp for a piece of wood. It's unknown how the craftsman managed to manipulate the material.
'That'll do.' The man grabbed the sword handle and felt the intense vitality in the material.
The man did look around for a bit, but couldn't really find anything else that he deems valuable, the only shueld he found he couldn't even lift much to his displeasure.
And thus he began to wander the city again. He looked through many buildings, finding a few things if note, such as shoes and a shirt. He had also found a bracer that he strapped around his arm, it would have to do if he did, in fact, find a threat. Eventually the man came to notice the sky had transitioned between blue into black.
'I'm able to see clearly though...' he man then asked a question to the air. 'Why can I see in the dark?'
[Because you have awakened the System.]
'So you allow ne to see in the dark?'
[Yes]
'Neat I guess.' The man thought for a moment, and then asked a different question. 'Is that also the reason I'm not tired?'
[No, you are not tired because you are undead.]
'Ah, shit, that's right.' The man hadn't remembered that fact.
After that the man didn't really have any questions, and continued to just wander. He decided to restrict the buildings he searched to ones that looked unique, as he knew it would take him months to search every house in the city. Regardless he eventually found the city gate.
A structure of over 40 feet tall, with walls that reached 100 feet at least, and towers that went over 50 feet taller those. It was a majesty that made the hole of twisted and punctured metal all the more terrifying. The hole was easily over half the gates height, and almost the same width across. The man shivered as he became suddenly unnerved by the thought of a creature that big. He also had noticed the rusted armor and weapons laying around as if this had been a battlefield...
Shaking his head, the man turned down the street from the gate, following a trail of destruction, which based off the rubble, had to of happened long ago. Eventually he found a plaza, where in the middle lay a mass of bones.
The one that stood out however, were the skeletal remnants of a massive canine, as well as the pristine blade stick out from a broken bit of spinal cord where the head and neck connected. Seeing the sword his eyes travelled up to the bones holding the sword. With armor still equipped it was an impossible sight. A yellowed skeleton fully armored in plate standing with a sword in place...
'What in the hell happened here...?' The man walked forward and gently touched the canine skeleton.
[Fenrir Corpse]
- Remains of a giant wolf beast, also known as a Fenrir.
[You have encountered a mythical beings remains, would you like to return it?]
'Sure.' The man had nothing he could do with it.
The corpse vanished and the other skeleton fell apart, the sword staying up as the tip was embedded in the stone plaza.
The man turned to the sword and grabbed its hilt, and it immediately vanished.
[You have encountered a weapon tempered by the flames of a Phoenix, Item shall be returned]
'Hey! I wanted to look at that!' The man scowled a bit.
[Phoenix Items are very valuable]
[You have discovered a Phoenix Item unlocking the feature Recall]
[Recall brings Phoenix Items from the temple to your location, depends on users power]
'Damn it.' The man turned towards the other skeleton, now scattered about the street.
Touching it...
[Corpse]
- dead body
Nothing useful happened, not even the armor was any good.
The man could only sigh a bit.
