A Man Who Grows

The man had quickly rounded up a bunch of different materials, and chose a smithy close to the library. He then settled in to work.

According to the smithing books he had read, it was best to start with some simple shapes. He started with making a few rectangles, moving on to squares circles. It took him a long time, but he continued on until he could make all three of the objects with ease.

[You have learned the Active Skill _Metal Working]

He wasn't sure how much time had passed exactly before he got the skill, but he was now almost out of fuel and would need more to continue his work.

He sighed and left the smithy, after putting out the embers that remained of his fire. He decided to go and ransack the other smithies for the fuel they had, and to read for a bit as a break.

He found himself to be rather lucky with the fuel situation, finding plenty in the nearby smithies. He brought it all back and decided to take a look at what he had managed to accomplish in the smithy, looking at the first shapes he'd made, as compared to the last ones he'd made. It went from undefined blobs of metal to rough shapes, not perfect by any means, but definitely an improvement. He also realized he could melt down the older shapes and make new ones later with the material... making a mental note of that he then left the smithy.

On his way over to the library he happened to look at his hands, and realized that they were covered in soit and ash from working metal for so long. He had a few thoughts cross his mind about how he would clean them, but, much to his dismay, the system had a point when it came to increasing his resistance to the holy element. Thus with an ugly look on his face he went to the fountain.

It didn't take too long to find the fountain again, although it would take less time as he would become morw familiar with where it was, and he soon arrived at the fountain.

The bowl was filled to the brim with holy water, or Phoenix Water as the system called it. With a sigh, and more forced willpower than he'd like to admit, the man dunked his hands into the water, feeling the pain of his skin slowly disolving under the water once again. On the bright side, it did clean his hands. The downide was the fact that he was going to clean his face with it too. And with great pain, and greater determination he slowly washed his face.

'Well at least I got something for my pain.' The man to himself, his face was still partially melted. 'Gotta wonder what I was like before if I'm willing and able to do such things to myself...' The man stood at the fountain and thought about his prior life, still not remembering anything, for a short time, then he decided to just leave the fountain fpr the day. He had brought himself to a little less than half his total health.

While walking back towards the library, he had heard some noises. Drawing his weapon from his subspace slot, he readied for a fight and went to investigate the sound. In a small house nearby he found a few goblins sitting around a small fire, seemingly talking, not that the man understood any of what they were saying. He did notice that they had a small bird cooking over the fire, most likely from the mountain side.

Stolen story; please report.

Something about that thought had set the man off, however. The fact that these creatures had went past that barrier, and even had the audacity to kill something on the mountain... Where was this hatred coming from? The man wasn't sure, but nonetheless he would kill these things anyways. The last of them he had found had tried to kill him after all.

Quiet as he could he walked closer to the goblins, and after he got close enough he struck outwards. He managed to make a deep cut into the first goblins neck, there were 5 , so he'd have to kill 4 on his own, which shouldn't be too hard based on how little they had affected him previously.

Now that they had noticed, he quickly rushed towards another, slashing at it over the fire. The creature hadn't the time to defend, and the sword cleaved off the top of its head. The man was somewhat disturbed by how easily his weapon cut the bones of the creature.

He didn't let this distract him however as he backpedaled and got put if range as one of the goblins attacked him. The man swiftly responded, and delivered a stab deep into the chest of the goblin, a hiss came from the fire as some droplets of blood landed in the flame. The goblin let out a horrible shriek and clawed at the man, who of which twisted the blade and cut sideways, killing the thing.

In just under 5 seconds 3 of the 5 goblins had died. The remaining 2 goblins rushed him at the same time, which would have been a problem, but for the fire, which the man, wearing a good pair of boots, kicked int the path of the goblins. One triped and fell face first into the flaming pile, he other screamed as their feet were burnt. The man killed the screaming one, cuting down and spliting its skull, then killed the last one, which seemed to have fallen into shock as it was quiet and shaking slightly while laying on the fire.

[You have reached a Physical Equilibrium. So long as your physical stats stay equal, you will get 10% more out of them]

[You have reached a Mental Equilibrium. So long as your mental stats stay equal, you will get 10% more out of them]

The man read the message, but he wasn't really sure what it did. What he did notice was his health increasing by 30. He was also pleasantly warm, attributed to the fact that he was standing on top of the fire...

The man stepped off of the fire, and simply decided to go back to the library... after he washed the blood off himself.

A quick, painful, trip back to the fountain, the man was clean again. He finally arrived back at the library and decided to read more about metal working and such to improve his smithing abilities, which were the gate keeper for tailoring.

'Tool Making: A guide to common day tools, ◇You too ☆can be a Great Smith with these 3 steps♡, Grind and Sharpen's Guide to Everyday Maintenance, Fool's guide to simple Metal Working...'

The titles of these books were strange and long, but he figured that looking at the 'Fool's Guide' would likely be most beneficial to his current situation and picked it up to read, as well as a different book entirely, which seemed to be in the wrong aisle.

'A Guide to Magic'

A simple title, but it contained something that the man hadn't any clue about. Magic. He hadn't seen the word in any of the titles he had found yet, and it seemed like a general overview of the subject.

The man sat down to read.
