Chapter 23 Hunting for bats

Chapter 23 Hunting for bats

Thinking back on it I don't think creating new creatures will be that chaotic. They will probably die soon, they don’t have magic or any power, they are just smart animal variations. In the future creating monsters could be useful as companions and distractions.

Now to find a bat. From what I know about them they fly, eat insects and fruit. It is a shame I am too heavy to fly or to climb trees for that matter. Most sentient and monsters get physical prowess from powers, magic, aura or most commonly pure training [I think this channels the world's power into the individual's body without giving them control of it.]. But I get mine from efficiently used condensed biological matter, making me very heavy and as of yet, I have not found a way to fix this problem.

To catch a bat I plan to set up a trap using the spider silk to make a web and use fruit and insects as bait. As far as I know bats come out at night and I just spent the whole night awake so I should spend the day setting the traps.

The first thing I do is set up webs made from spider silk, hoping that it would catch some insects by night time saving me some time and effort. I then find all the insects and fruit I can and put them as bait to lure in the bats and any other potential creature I could find useful. With the traps set, I leave them alone so there was no chance of me scaring off anything.

I spend the rest of the day training my senses by randomly swapping, increasing and decreasing them. As I do this I slash and jab at trees trying to make my movements as efficient and powerful as possible while causing the most damage as I can.

[How can I make my claws more dangerous?] While asking this question I look back through Paul's memories when an idea pops into my head I remember the thing called ‘clickbait’ of the 1000 °C knife videos which Paul was a sucker for.

[From what I understand from my old memories, the heat energy helps break through the bonds holding together matter, making it easier than using a regular blade.] With this in mind I move all of the excess metal I have absorbed into my claws as I grind up the fire gems within my body into a fine powder. While mixing keratin, metal and powdered gems I make a sort of bio, magic alloy.

Using this pseudo alloy I make my claws. I make sure none of the powder is on the outside as I only want to heat the claws not start a forest fire. I make a small vein structure inside each claw, filling it with acid. I debated using poison or venom but if it were to heat up and turn into a gas state I did not want to deal with poisoning myself while fighting.

With my new design, I secrete acid on to claws as I heat them, slashing at the tree again I feel much less resistance than before [Excellent]. After a bit more practicing with my claws, I move on to the throwing knives. Making a target on a tree I take 20 steps back and alternate my throwing hand each time I throw a knife. When I hit the center of the target I take a step back, and each time I miss the target I step forward.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Once I reached 100 steps back I made a rope out of hair, tying one end to a log I carved the target onto, I tried the other end onto a branch. I then lifted the log to one side and let go to make it swing. I then start the exercise again from 20 steps back but this time I add in the crossbow as well.

By the time I reach 100 steps backward for the swing target, the rest of the day had passed along with half the night, so I spend the rest of the night hunting for food and body mass. When the first rays of sunlight make themselves known, I return to the traps but there are sadly no bats, only some birds which I use as templates to improve my eyesight. The trap did, however, catch a large blue wasp looking creature with a long looking stinger that was dripping with a liquid I assume to be some type of poison.

Curious I prick my finger with the poison stinger to discover its effects. The poison targets the brain, crossing nerve pathways and confusing the senses while showing things that aren't there. The poison is not too powerful and its effects are minimal as well as not lasting long but they could be useful.

[But how could I use it? It is not deadly and its effects are not that strong, so I see no reason in adding it to the tail. Maybe if I modified it I could make it more effective in crossing the nerve pathways I could use it in a sort of stinger amour? That way when an enemy strikes me it would cause them confusion allowing me to finish them off.]

Thinking of this, I set about making the hallucinogenic poison more effective, using my own body as a test subject. Once I make it as strong as I could with the little knowledge I had I make patches of small stingers around my body not wanting to cover my whole body as it would cost a lot of nutrients to make and for the upkeep of the poison.

By the time my stinger amour was done, it was night again and I also notice small appendages sticking out from some of the insect's heads. Copying the appendages I notice My sense of smell increases and I notice chemicals in the air that affect my emotions. These are like the pheromones that creepy lady used on us at the guild, that could be a useful ability to have. I then spend the rest of my time creating my own pheromones using myself and the insects as test subjects.

When I return to the traps the next day I find what I have been looking for, a bat [Finally]. Without wasting time, I copy It's vocal cords Into my own why altering my hearing to hear the ultrasonic sounds made by bats to achieve echolocation.

Once the modifications are done I test using echolocation In small infrequent bursts as to not overload my brain. Slowly but surely I make the sound louder and more frequent and a 3D image starts to slowly form in my head in the direction my mouth is facing. As this is happening my brain starts to hurt and become uncomfortable as it evolves. Deciding to take the evolution a step further I make my tongue into a snake's which allows me to smell better as it can pick up chemical particles in the air. Although it does not add much to the new appendages on my head. My brain begins to hurt more as the pain intensifies with the information overload and the inching indicating the evolution begins to push; back the pain.

After a long time of slowly increasing the input into my brain, it finally evolves and I can use Echolocation along with the ‘air tasting of the snake’. Lucky the echolocation does not seem to need much practice as all I do is make a clicking noise and I get a 3D image of a short radius in the direction of my mouth and little in other directions as the sound waves bounce off of objects. The ‘air tasting’ will take more practice is I will have to identify what the different smells mean.

With one of my short-term goals met I decide that it is time to head deeper into the forest to find, fight and hunt more dangerous beasts and monsters. [good I was beginning to become bored.] With an excited smile on my face, I walk deeper into the forest.
