Sign

Newt’s POV:

Well, the safe haven is a complete joke. It's a sign.

A shucking sign.

And I’m being literal. It's a physical sign that says ‘safe haven’.

At first, I’m just stunned. Then I’m defeated. I just walk over to Minho and slump onto him. Minho patted my back

“Hey, we still have. . .”

He looked at his watch

“Five minutes.”

I roll my eyes

“What's gonna happen then? A whole safe city just springs up?”

Minho started to say something when the ground exploded around us. Giant coffin-boxes sprung out of the ground, surrounding the group of gladers in a circle. I backed into Minho, and said, almost stunned

“They’re the same box at the griever hole. . .”

Minho was glancing at the boxes. They had started to open.

“Well, maybe grievers aren't in them?”

The boxes had fully opened, and I was staring intently at the one closest to me. It had opened, but nothing was happening. At least, until the hand appeared. The hand was covered in orange glowing bulbs. I grabbed Minho’s arm, and tugged on it.

“Hey what is it?”

I pointed

“W-Well you were right. . . it’s not a griever.”

Minho gasped, then sighed. He turned to the others

“Guys, we have a problem!”

I quickly counted the coffins. Considering all of them had a monster, there was about one per person. I turned to the now horror stricken gladers

“Everyone split up! Everyone get one!”

The gladers split up, and picked up whatever stick or weapon they could get their hands on. I grabbed a club like stick, and ran for one. It was still climbing out of its box, so I had an advantage. I ran at it and slammed my club right into its head.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

It didn’t even flinch!

What the shuck?

I slammed it square in the stomach, and again, no flinch.

I glanced over at Minho, just as his monster slammed him to the ground.

The next hit was out of pure anger, I wasn't even aiming. I hit it in the arm, and popped one of the orange bulbs, the monster took a step back and let out an odd moan. I quickly took out the rest of its bulbs, and shouted to the others.

“Hit their bulbs!”

I ran over to Minho, and helped him defeat his own monster, and by that time, most of them had been killed. That’s when the lightning started. It hit all around us, breaking down the ground. Thomas yelled from somewhere behind me

“Go to the boxes!”

Everyone scattered in all different directions, and I ended up in a box by myself. Where was Minho? I peeked out, but saw no one. Everyone was in a box. I closed the cover and lay there, in this lukewarm, smelly water. A lighting bolt hit the top of the box, and the sound rattled into my brain. Never in my life have I wanted Minho more. Then, there was an odd beating sound, and I opened the lid ever so slightly, and saw a berg! A shucking berg! I jumped out of the box, and ran as fast as I could to the ship. It had landed, and Minho was already there. He helped me up onto the deck, and we collapsed. Our bodies have gone through too much in too little time. When I woke up, I was in a white room.

Minho’s POV:

I was alone in a white room. It was like the room where Chuck died. To white, to pure. I stood up, and walked around.

Nothing happened.

I banged one what I guessed was the door.

Nothing happened

It had now been, what? At least two weeks. I made a routine. Get up. Run and walk around until your brain becomes numb with the boredom, lay down, eat food that they give you. It sure was exciting. Okay, so you know how white the room was? Well I blame that for being the reason I didn’t spot the vent.

Now wait. The vent wasn't normal coloring, it was white to.

Like, just why? Why would you have a white vent? These slintheads really liked white I guess. One of the particularly boring days, I started picking at the screws, and they actually started to come loose! Naturally, I had to keep going, and when I finally finished, it had already been a couple days. I slid into the vent, and started crawling. The first vent I stopped at was a WICKED lab, and I did not want to get caught there.I kept going, and I saw another white room. The person in it was sitting against the wall at an angle where I couldn’t see their face. I whispered, and was shocked on how unused my voice sounded

“Hello?”The figure jumped up, and I got a glimpse of blond hair.

“Newt! Newt over here!”

Newt walked over to the vent, and looked around.

“Hello? Who is it? Where are you?”

“Newt I’m in the vent!”

Newt peered in, and sighed in relief.

“Minho! I missed you so much. How’d you get in there anyway?”

I rolled my eyes

“I teleported. What do you think? I broke into the vent. Now watch out.”

Newt moved to the side, and I rotated and kicked the vent until it was loose enough for Newt to take off.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. Let’s go!”

We crawled for about a half hour before we made it to a hallway. The vent was cold, and hard against me, but it almost felt good. To actually do something other than stare at a white wall. We hadn’t run into any other rooms. We banged on the vent until it gave in, then we jumped out onto the ground. And then, of course a guard walked around the corner.
