Commandment 38: Reconnected

It only took a few months for the ship to finally reach Helioan, and during that time Sanosuke and an older woman named Seka counted the treasures and aurums all three ships had. Sanosuke had ordered everyone to take the armor and weapons from the dead bodies as well, then he and Seka found material to craft pouches.

His sharp Polymath mind allowed him to evenly distribute the aurum and the treasures into the pouches, placing them into a chest he guarded for the rest of the trip.

The ship docked at the nearest port that was visible and quickly placed the wooden bridge down. Sanosuke, still wearing the captain’s coat and hat, stood near the bridge with his right foot on the chest.

“In these pouch I placed enough money for everyone to use and make something of themselves and their families,” he said in the language of the foreigners. “Enjoy your lives, you all deserve it,” Sano finished with a smile.

The people Sano saved all cried and thanked them. The slaves that were freed also thanked Sano and were surprised that he knew all of their languages so fluently. They would never forget the young Japanese boy that gave them their lives back.

He looked at the reminding sailors and shouted at them. “Grab my stuff and take me to the nearest inn!” The sailors saluted and quickly went to do what they were told. Sano grabbed the chest and jumped off the boat onto the land. The moment his foot hit the ground, a shiver of energy ran all throughout his body, all the way to his brain.

“KENTO!”

“MY LADY INARI!”

The two shouted at each other; they truly missed each other and their company. “Excellent work with those slavers, as expected of my retainer.” It was quite obvious how proud she was of Sanosuke, it oozed out of every word of praise she gave.

“You honor me, my lady. I don’t want people around me to think I’m crazy, let me head to the inn before we continue speaking.”

João Machado, yes that was the name he wanted to have. The Machados would be known as a royal family, one that while they didn’t have their own kingdom still had standing with the main royal families.

At least that was what was supposed to happen. João’s consciousness had finally entered the Fantasia world, his eyes and mind still needed adjusting to entering the new world. As his vision finally appeared he saw a desolate wasted land, he saw many people of all ages and races who all looked rail thin.

Their clothes were torn to the point of even barely covering any of them, they also all had black collars on their neck. João furrowed his brow in confusion, then his memories placed themselves into his mind.

The Machados were wiped out and the young heir João, only seven years old at the time, was taken by the slavers of Noin. Right now, he was in Noin working for them as a child of the mines.

“Nuada!?”

He yelled out to his big brother but no response was given. He looked down at his bracer and a screen popped out of it.

You are currently a slave, the collar around your neck is a limiter causing your connection to your deity to be null. You have no access to divine wills, godsends, or role abilities. Break the chains of your imprisonment to return the link to your deity. Interesting starting point.

João didn’t say anything, he didn’t even look defeated or dejected. No, instead, he sighed and blamed the curse one last time. His life was still somehow screwed over, he was currently nine years old, meaning he had been a slave for two years so far.

No powers, no way to connect with his king. João desperately wanted to complain and cry but just like back on Earth, doing those things would do nothing. Instead, he lifted his fists up and chanted out the Machado advice.

“Arm’s length, shoulders wide, like you're looking for a fight. You'll be alright… so, with all your might, push through and fight!”

Punching the air, he gained some sense of composure and resolve. “I just have to wait for Nuada. My king will figure this out and save me. Just like he promised me before.”

A man whipped the ground near João, forcing him to return to the mines.

Sanosuke threw one pouch to the last remaining sailor. “This is payment for everyone’s trip. Get out of here and never show yourself to me again.” He slammed the door in their faces and went to rest on the bed of his rented room.

Inari appeared in the room in her ethereal form. She walked over to the chest and stared at all the treasures and aurum Sanosuke was able to keep after he evenly divided the funds.

“Ho hoooo, I see you have enough to buy some land, or a building if you wanted to. At least we don’t have any funds issues,” she said.

Sanosuke agreed and then looked at his Bracer, activating it a screen popped out for him to read.

Divine Wills

Smith Master: You have knowledge and skill to smith weapons, any and all weapons. (that can exist in the Fantasia world). Foxes Loyalty: As Lady Inari’s retainer you have respect and authority over foxes, they can understand and will always listen to your demands. A group of foxes will always be near you, so make sure you greet your co-workers.

Blessing of the Sacred Grounds: Many of Inari’s worshippers worship her to gain success and prosperity in their lives. As such, Inari gives these blessings to you. You become stronger in places where there is sacred ground. The closer you are, the stronger you become. (Areas that activate this divinity: shrines, churches, graveyards, and chapels. If a religious figure is buried in the ground near them that also counts.) Inari has made your guardian figure a priest. He is considered a religious figure and gives you this blessing. Place his dead corpse in a strategic location.

The Kitsune Jewel: A jewel that is encrusted into a bracelet (worn on the opposite side of your bracer), which allows you to shapeshift into a fox. You are far weaker in this form, this godsend is considered to be your vehicle and allows you to quickly move around the Fantasia world. (Support type).

Worshipers sake: An offering of sake from Inari’s worshipers, It helps heal you by recycling your ather and speeds up the auto healing process. The effects aren’t immediate so it's advised to use this godsend after a battle. You can also heal others but you would be using your own ather to help them. (Support type).

Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi: One of the three imperial regalia of Japan bestowed to you from an unanimous decision by all the Japanese deities. Its power and importance is immeasurable. This is considered to be your final attack. Summon the entire history and future of Japan to crush your enemies. Can only be used once. (Attacker type).

Judge’s comments and evaluation

Achilles: A true warrior and a perfect example of what humans should strive to be; a man with unshakable faith! I wished he worshiped us Greek deities, we need someone like this.

Damaris: You should have seen him, Achilles! He was all like, “No, I’m not crazy!” During the selection phase. A man whose spirit never truly wavered and prayed every day to be a retainer for the Tryfing! Kento Sanosuke is the real deal.

Achilles: I hope the weapon I choose for you is up to your standards, Sanosuke. If you don’t win this year and you're still alive, maybe I’ll come knocking at your door and have you be my retainer for the next Tryfing. ;)

Achilles & Damaris: Show us the Bushido code! Show us your burning samurai spirit!!!

Sanosuke chuckled, “We need to properly thank Judge Achilles for the amazing godsend he gave us, my lady.”

Inari's eyes widened as if she had remembered something. “You are right, I was about to go see Achilles once I felt your connection return. That battle, oooh that battle was divine! Achilles truly did understand us and gave us a powerful weapon.”

She was red in the face as she recounted the battle Sanosuke had fought. Sano was a little weirded out seeing the true side of Lady Inari, but he had already seen bits of her personality when they played a few rounds of cards together. Inari was extremely competitive and her battle-crazed personality appeared during those moments, as well.

“So, what do you think is the next step, my retainer?”

“We should use the aurums and buy a building and maybe set up a base of operations in a town,” Sanosuke replied.

“Yes, that should good, after all why hoard all these war funds you got. Head out in the morning, Kento. Once I find a suitable town for you to reside in we shall open your blacksmith shop and gather information.”

Inari smiled that beautiful smile she always gave to Sanosuke. “This has been the most fun I had in ages, Kento, and it only just started! Soon we will win, and I’ll be with my beloved after you gain all the glory and honor of winning the Tryfing.”
