Elias Thorne

Elias Thorne

Elias Thorne

50s • Binary Bloom Station

Role in Story

Elias is a deep-cover operative for the human planetary government of Dangorod, embedded within the pirate outpost of Binary Bloom for years. His primary role in the story is to reveal the true significance of the crew's recent actions to them. He serves as a bridge between the crew and the larger political landscape, offering them a glimpse into the potential consequences of their success.

Goal

Elias' ultimate goal is to disrupt the power structure of the pirate underworld and ultimately weaken their hold on the fringes of human space. He sees the crew of the Rusty Bolt as a potential catalyst for change, offering a chance to deliver a significant blow to a specific pirate organization.

The goal his government has in mind for him, however, is different. For the foreseeable time they need the pirates as humans are too weak to officially engage with most of the alien races in conflict. Dealing any blows to them via piracy means plausible deniability.

Physical Description

Elias is a man weathered by time and the harsh realities of his chosen profession. His once-athletic frame now bears the weight of years spent undercover. He has a close-cropped beard flecked with grey, and his eyes, often shadowed beneath a worn hat, hold a flicker of both weariness and steely resolve.

Personality

Elias is a man of quiet intensity. Years of living a double life have honed his ability to blend in and observe. He speaks sparingly, choosing his words carefully and delivering them with a dry wit that can mask a sharp mind. Despite the cynicism his job often requires, a spark of idealism still burns within him, a flicker of hope for a more stable and lawful frontier.

Occupation

Official Cover: Mechanic/Tinkerer

True Occupation: Deep-Cover Intelligence Operative

Elias runs a seemingly unremarkable shop on the outskirts of the marketplace, offering repairs and tinkering services to various denizens of the outpost. This facade allows him to observe the comings and goings of pirates and gather intel without attracting undue attention.

Habits/Mannerisms

• Elias keeps a small terrarium in his shop, filled with hardy, low-maintenance plants from his home planet. He tends to it meticulously, a silent connection to the life and normalcy he craves.

• He enjoys stargazing on clear nights, using a hidden rooftop access on his shop. It allows him a moment of escape from the chaos below and a chance to reflect on the bigger picture.

• Elias collects small, unassuming trinkets from his travels – a smooth river stone, a scrap of colorful fabric. These serve as tactile reminders of the life outside the harshness of Binary Bloom.

Background

Elias wasn't always a man of shadows. He served with distinction in the military, his skills in intelligence gathering and covert operations making him a valuable asset. However, disillusioned by the political machinations behind the scenes, he volunteered for a deep-cover assignment within the pirate underworld. Binary Bloom became his home for years, a place where he cultivated contacts, gathered intel, and waited for an opportunity to make a difference.

Internal Conflicts

Elias struggles with the isolation and moral ambiguity of his undercover life. He longs for a normal life and questions the true cost of his work. However, he remains committed to his mission, believing that dismantling the pirate networks is a necessary evil for the greater good.

External Conflicts

Elias' greatest external conflict is maintaining his cover. Every day, he walks a tightrope, balancing the suspicions of the pirates with the potential scrutiny of his superiors. One wrong move could blow his cover and put his life, and the mission, at risk.

Notes

Elias serves as a crucial link between the crew of the Rusty Bolt and the larger political landscape. He offers them valuable information and a potential path forward, but their actions will ultimately determine the nature of their relationship. Will they see him as an ally or a potential manipulator?
