28. First Boss Fight

28. First Boss Fight

Born to a lowly race, rats, it didn’t have the choice but to live as prey. Scraping food from the streets and occasionally getting lucky with a dust of cheese. It was a stereotype, but it wasn’t wrong. The rat didn’t live a happy life until one day it was caught by wandering men in white robes and covered faces.

It was brought to a lab and obviously, experimented on. “Give me prototype 31.” Said one guy, holding the rat just ever so tightly in his hand.

“You sure? I don’t really think this will work, it’s been 30 tries, and not a single one even showed a close sign to success.” Said the only other man in the room.

“Just give it to me. I got advice from some random man.”

“Random man? It just sounds like you're bullshitting your way into this experiment.” Yelled the other man, slamming the desk in front of him.

“Darwin!” He flicked his head further than a human possibly could. “Believe… me…” He stared with wide unblinking eyes till tears dropped.

“Okay… you are… creeping me out now.” Darwin quickly walked to the man and handed the sample swiftly. “Here. I’ll leave, I don’t wanna get caught in some occult stuff.” He said, calm for a follower of science.

Darwin left the room, banging the door as hard as he could, dropping some flask to the ground. The glass broke and the sample dropped on the rat.

The man placed the rat on the ground. It glowed green, red, blue, yellow, purple, it turned to so many colors it caused a slight damage to the man’s eyes.

Outside the lab, Darwin stood in his car, waiting for the engine to get ready. Then, immediately a huge explosion came from the lab. A fire spurted out the top of the lab and a loud screech echoed. “Okay… yep, I definitely am just leaving here.”

Callan walked as fast as he could under the rat. Immediately everything turned dark as the entire room got covered in rocks. “Okay… how the fuck is this rat still standing.” It was a stupid decision to hide under a rat that could squeeze him to death.

Then the rat’s feet shook and bent.

Callan formed a giant astral spear armor, just for precautions about the thick skin of the rat. It had way too many scars that it’s skin was definitely not going to be close to some stone.

Just being under its body, covered by the ceiling, the rat definitely fought by putting its entire life on the line.

Callan was only able to make a small cubby on the rat’s body. He was kneeled down, his head squished to the ground. Fucking shit! Okay… there is no I can fucking kill this giant rat.

Callan covered his right hand with sharp magic gloves over his already black one. He grabbed the skin above him and ripped it off. It came off like butter. So only his skin is that thick.

He looked down at the skin of the rat. It stood straight like fried pig skin. Callan grabbed onto it; coarse and rough, full of hair.

Callan tried twisting, taking him a great amount of force just to break a piece of it. “Okay… so… will this be another fight that takes advantage of stupid shit.”

Before Callan could fix his form to hit the rat’s inner body, it jumped up. The rocks began to roll inward in his direction, it was like a landslide, just from the perspective of ants.

Callan jumped up and climbed on top of the piles. The rat landed in the opposite direction, causing another crater, blowing the giant debris to Callan. “Fuck!”

He jumped in the direction of a wall, scooching himself in the tiniest hole he could, crouching down. A thick barrier of magic covered his top.

A few seconds later, everything around went completely dark as he was covered in rocks, blinded from even the tiniest bit of light. That rat was incredibly dangerous. The only solution is to jump inside it’s body and kill it. It is such a cliche, but it’s a cliche for a reason, it really is just the only way.

Callan pushed his magic above, blowing the rocks above him away. He jumped high, eyeing the giant rat as it opened its mouth and fired a blob of green mush to the floor. “Don’t tell me…”

It instantly released a dark green smoke and it fell lower and lower to the ground. Callan didn’t move an inch and dropped to the same hole he jumped from. “Plan to jump inside the rat’s body, immediately discarded.”

Callan covered himself with rocks again and hid in a dark hole. “Well… this is pathetic… really… pathetic… umm… I have no plans. Thank God this room is big enough for me to hide.” He flared his nostrils and started to kiss the air every few seconds.

“La… la… la… la…” Callan knew exactly how long he could last hiding in that dark hole. He wasn’t even making any plans. It was like he just accepted, he’ll die.

After a few minutes of hugging his legs, a burst of light entered in front of his eyes. The light kept getting bigger with the constant sound of oil on a frying pan.

Just like before, Callan released the rocks flying to the air. He wrapped a single rock with a magic string, jumping and pulling it along with him.

Time felt like it stopped the moment he reached the expanded ceiling. His eyes blinked in slow motion. Once his feet landed on the rock Callan took one step forward to the edge in the direction of the rat. He took a deep breath and inhaled slowly… Flow State…

Because of their inhumane speed, a lot could happen in 2 seconds.

Callan launched straight to the rat. The tail struck into the ground, blocking his path. He reached beyond the tail with his spear and hooked himself a little to the left, dropping him to the rat’s eyes.

Callan blew the rat’s right eye, and its tail followed to strike him. He turned around and waited for the tail to come a meter close to him. As soon as it did, he moved a step to the side and watched the rat scream.

“Raaaa!!!!” All of that happened in 2 seconds.

He jumped down to the ground, and the tail followed him again. The rat was fast, but they were just about the same, actually, he was faster… and there was one interesting flaw that he noticed about the rat.

Callan ran to the back of the rat, aiming for its testicles. He swung his spear, ready to sacrifice his entire right arm to cut the rat’s balls. The tail tried its best to reach Callan, but it couldn’t. The rat jumped in the air and flipped to the other side, landing and making another huge crater, blowing every debris to Callan.

Hmph, knew it. His strike stopped perfectly, retracting all his built-up magic. He surrounded himself inside 10 meter 10-meter-thick barrier, blocking every piece of rock blown at him.

The rat landed, with his tail still tucked under it, and then in just a second, the rat retracted. Confirmed.

It was simple. The rat had one big flaw. It couldn’t move its tail and body at the same time. That was the only way Callan could defeat it. At the same time… it wasn’t even that smart either way.

Callan ran to the rat. Dodging and parrying the incoming tail attacks. Due to the amount of landings the rat had gone through, the ground had become a group of small hills of stone.

He jumped to the sky, smirked, and his eyes glowed. It was still going to be hard, but a few days… a few days will be enough.
