Chapter 11.5 - The Demon More Human Than Humans

'I... Can't, really. Since getting reborn I've killed everything that tried to kill me, that's how I live and how I plan on living. I want to live, so I'll do everything to stay alive. Still, that doesn't mean my means are murder and destruction, so... As long as I'm fine, I won't be 'chaotic' as you said. I'm totally fine following your rules.'

That's what Aria said when I asked about her intention. Out of everything she could have answered, that wasn't the best, but not the worst, because of that I had no complaints that needed to be voiced when Ayla invited her to the party.

Yet, the more I thought about those words, the more I sympathized. The words were harsh, no embellishments, still, aren't most people like that? Comfort is the most basic thing humans pursue for their life. Comfort comes with, among other things, having a certain degree of freedom and being in accordance with the set of rules they're subjected to. That's basically where she was getting at, I can't say she's wrong for putting it the way she did.

And more, the whole way to this village she has been like a child goofing around, many times I questioned if she was a real demon and not just a tall kid.

But then came that night, I woke up with the sight of her all burned up, I think she was naked for a second? But then had clothes? I was half asleep so I shouldn't trust my memories that much. Behind her there were two dead monstrified beasts, I just remember seeing that and her saying:

'Uh, yeah, sure... You should go back to sleep, there's much to do tomorrow isn't there? Sleep a full night at least. Everything here is taken care of.'

In the end she dealt with those beasts just so we could sleep peacefully the whole night, as she knew we had things to do the next day. Isn't that just so considerate? Is she really a demon?

Then there's her conversation with Mira. Stuttering apart, she spoke her mind just for the sake of making the girl die peacefully, thinking about her dreams.

At least, that's what I thought.

In the end, she really has faith in curing Mira. More than that, she's thinking ahead: How to fix her mental state once she's cured.

I'm certain now, Aria Angelskind is a demon with more humanity than many humans out there.

But...

...What did she go through to reach that 'absolute freedom' theory? She wasn't just a 'sleepy class rep.', was she? And her smile, since she left to go to the library, the two times I checked up on her until now, on the way to the forest, she has been wearing the same smile... It's not confidence I'm sure. That smile...

...Is her way of hiding how much pain she's going through.

Didn't she have that same smile in our past life?
