I woke up to a blinding light as the sun was right in my eyes. It pierced through an unfamiliar old window where frost crept on the edges.
Oh right. New dorms.
I looked down.
I must've been really sleepy to fall asleep on this thing.
It was a twin bed. A really old one with brown framing, blue, cheap, polyester sheets, and a musty looking white pillow. I turned over so that I was laying on my left side and took in my surroundings.
I sighed.
Is this really where I'm going to live for the next year?
It was a small room with tan carpet and dark green wallpaper. A chipped brown dresser stood to the wall on my right, a brown closet further down. On the wall in front of me was a small shelf in the same brown with a black TV sitting on it. The TV looked like it was pulled out of the 90's with its boxy shape and wide edges. On my left was a bare wall with an old brown door in the middle, an old white and black clock above it.
I checked the clock and it was about 8:50. A.M. I assumed, as it was still light outside and I wasn't really prone to sleeping through the day.
I got up from my bed and decided to start getting ready since Lizzy talked about one of my dormmates giving me a real tour today. It was then that I realized the small room had no second door for a bathroom.
I cursed. Shared bathrooms! Ugh.
I grabbed my backpack that was sitting near the door, got out my robe, and changed into it, setting my clothes from yesterday beside my suitcase. I then got a towel, a toothbrush, and toothpaste from my suitcase tucking everything orderly into my left arm. I closed it and pushed it back under the old bed.
I walked to the door and put my right hand on the wooden door knob.
Well here we go. I guess this is officially when I start over.
I opened the door to the hallway I had gone through yesterday with a few small groups of girls added. They were around my age talking in loud voices.
"Nice robe. Is that satin?" A soft voice to my right said.
I turned to see who was speaking. Leaning her back on the wall next to my door was a short, pale girl with dark green dyed hair done in a bob that was about chin length. She was wearing a ribbed baby blue sweater, a white long pleated skirt, an old looking necklace with a white seashell on the end, and some low top converse in the same baby blue as the sweater.
I assumed she was younger than me from her height and the way she dressed. Maybe a sophomore?
I focused on her face. She had a small mouth, a sharp-ish nose, and big light gray eyes that stared at my robe.
"Yeah [https://img.wattpad.com/e2e864f7cf2dcb5dfb7bac7bae66558b0350b464/68747470733a2f2f73332e616d617a6f6e6177732e636f6d2f776174747061642d6d656469612d736572766963652f53746f7279496d6167652f6d63384155443457386a556c6b773d3d2d313330373737373131312e313737393232383666376564356535623533323432303532373238372e706e67?s=fit&w=1280&h=1280]
"Yeah..." I said reluctantly as I had just woken up a couple of minutes ago.
"Satin robes are rare here since they're so expensive. Most of the students here have polyester since that's what they sell at the Walmart." The short girl added.
"..."
She then turned her whole body to face me and touched my satin robe. She touched the excess part of my right sleeve as it was oversized.
"Wow. This satin is especially well crafted and it seems to be made out of silk which is also rare as most satin made nowadays is made from a combination of polyester and rayon." She said with a surprised expression.
"..."
"Satin is defined by the span of the filament, not the fiber used. Fiber is still important as the satin itself is woven from these long, ceaseless, fibers." She stated.
"Those fibers then allow the end product to be more flexible and breathable which is the main reason it's held in such a high regard." The sophomore said removing her hand from the robe seemingly done with her long winded explanation.
I groaned internally. Now we have two useless info dump characters. Gwen was one and if this sophomore's first conversation with me is about satin and how it's made I can only assume what her personality will be like. At least Gwen was hot and had other admirable traits, this girl on the other hand...well she was kind of cute and I did like her preppy outfit. And her eyes.

Now is not the time, Jocelyn.
"Who are you?" I asked in my deep feminine voice I had grown accustomed to.
The preppy girl gave me a disappointed look and only later I understood why, the me in this scenario was clueless.
The sophomore sighed. "Emma...Emma Blanchet."
She pronounced the chet in the French pronunciation.
Cool last name.
"Mine is Jocelyn. I'm assuming you're the student giving the tour right?" I guessed while slightly adjusting the toiletries in my arm.
"Yeah. The whole building. The bedrooms, the kitchen, the different common areas, and the lobby." Emma affirmed plainly while turning back to her original position.
"Alright. Let me just shower and get dressed. I wouldn't want my dorm debut to be ruined by bedhead." I joked.
Emma turned her head to face me. Her eyes darted from my hair to my face. "It doesn't look terrible." She said.
"Thanks."
"Yes."
"..."
We stood there for a few seconds until I broke the silence.
"Shower." I blurted pointing with my free hand to the directions where I thought the shared bathrooms would be, behind me.
"Yes. Except it's that way." Emma explained pointing toward the elevator which was not the direction I pointed in.
"It's the door on the left of the stairs. It has a sign that says 'bathroom' on it." The preppy girl said, using a tone that she would use on a little kid.
This sophomore thinks I'm dumb.
"O-kay. Left of the stairs got it." I assured, sarcastically.
The short girl nodded.
I walked forward, past Emma, and past small groups of girls talking or on their phones until I made it to the bathroom. A pretty girl had her back to the wall beside the door. She looked up from her rose gold iPhone and stared at me intently. It honestly made me a bit nervous. Part of the nervousness was because she was so pretty but most of it was my mind thinking about an Instagram account that I signed out of three months ago.
She went back to her phone after realizing I had noticed her staring. I would've breathed a sigh of relief but that would've made me look suspicious.
I'm fine. I look different now. It's probably just because I'm the new girl.
I looked up and opened the ancient looking door. Inside was a normal school bathroom with tan and white tile on the walls and floor. The colors contrasted well with the dark green sinks and stalls. It was a little cramped but luckily I seemed to be alone. I walked to the other side of the bathroom, a tan door with a small blurry window on the top of it my destination.
I opened it and was met with a puff of steam. The showers. The walls and the floor were in the same pattern as the rest of the bathroom but added were five dark green curtained showers. The showers were positioned in a small arc that started to my right that went all the way around to the left with small spaces in front of each shower to step out of once finished.
"All you have to do is stay a minute. Just take your time. The clock is moving. So stay..." The girl in the far right shower had suddenly started singing.
Seriously. At least sing the song right. It's 'The clock is ticking'. Also don't sing if you can't sing!
I wanted to leave but my desire to shower was greater so I decided to try to ignore her.
The far left shower was also taken so I chose the one to my left. I set my toiletries on a small alcove in the wall next to my shower and entered. I shut the curtain, took off my robe and took about a ten minute shower. I didn't know how to get the water hot since the knob looked ancient, so it was hard to think of anything other than "This water is so freaking cold!"
When I got out and dried off I realized the singing girl on the far right must have left as her shower was off and the humming had stopped.
Hopefully she doesn't share a shower schedule with me.
I picked up my toiletries and returned them to my arm. I put on my robe and walked out of the shower room.
Still no one here. Nice.
I walked towards the sinks so I could brush my teeth.
I grabbed my pink toothbrush, added my Aesop toothpaste and began to brush. I looked at the bathroom mirror while doing so and started to look at my features since there were no mirrors in my room and it was crucial for me (well not as crucial now) to know what I looked like before starting out the day.
Thank god (and my Lapis facial oil) my acne went away. Imagine if my new school debut was ruined by acne?! That's even more dreadful than bedhead.
My mole or "beauty mark" a little below the left side of my lip was moving along to the brushing of my teeth. I had put concealer over it before I left for the dorms yesterday but it must've worn off. It didn't make sense to try to hide it now that people have seen it. My fans all were head over heels for it but I never really saw the appeal. It's just a dot.
My hard angled, brown eyebrows looked good since I had just gotten them done a week before I had arrived at this fine establishment.
Suddenly, a tired looking brunette in a cheap looking robe emerged from the showers. I was surprised that she was almost as tall as me. She glanced at me with a weird look and then walked across the bathroom and through the door that led to the hallway.
Was I wiggling my eyebrows unconsciously or something?
I brushed my teeth, rinsed out my toothbrush, washed my face, and returned the tooth brushing utensils to my arm. I gave myself one last glance and walked out the bathroom.
Woah! Woah! Woah. Did I just detail myself getting ready? My morning routine? I was going to save it for my Vogue interview. You would've seen "Jocelyn A. shows her heathen fans how to do makeup" in your recommended...Ok that was a little mean. You all aren't heathens, just very passionate on some of the posts you make. I understand you. I do.
Hmm. Maybe it's good my old manager never green lit my Youtube channel.
As I walked back I noticed the groups of girls thinned out a little while I was showering but the ones left were still talking and on their phones like before. I walked down the hallway until I made it to Emma and my room.
I turned to face the short girl who had a slightly annoyed expression on her face.
"Well hurry and clothe yourself, I have to introduce you to our glorious school. Right?" Emma declared in the same soft voice but in a different tone.
A tsundere info dump character!? Ok this just got interesting.
