I'm Not The Dragon's Mom
Prologue - A Week Later

Prologue - A Week Later

A week – it has been that long since I got thrown into this cave and I'm quite surprised at how fast I've adapted. I haven't completely accepted the sudden turn of events yet but at least I'm past the stage of shock and denial. I guess it's all thanks to the little one currently nestled on my lap. That's another thing. I have no doubts that I would be frightened to death by the little one if I was the same as before. Now look at me; I'm actually staring at him with adoration. It's certainly not because I got used to his presence. I was fine seeing him the first time along with his mother.

Rael was still inside his egg when I found this area and back then he was hidden behind a black dragon whose size couldn't be done justice in a single word. Add the lack of lighting and the pair of golden eyes staring daggers at me and I get a front-row seat for a nightmare fuel movie. What did it make me feel? Indeed I was surprised, but I didn't worry about my safety. I wasn't threatened at all. Furthermore, I felt sympathy once I realized the soon-to-be mother wouldn't see her offspring emerge from his shell. How I knew remains a mystery to me even now. It simply happened and it still weighs heavily in my mind.

I approached with steady strides, my eyes meeting the protective mother's scowl with compassion, my arms stretched outward to prove I didn't wish them harm. As if aligning with my intention, the black and gold armor which protects my petite body turned into motes of light and vanished, leaving me with a short black dress. With luck, my efforts bore fruit. The black dragon's hostility mellowed out.

The heavy atmosphere dispersed after an exchange of words, and by the end of it we somehow became friends. I learned a lot of things from our conversation but I still couldn't verify my suspicion. Even when her life came to an end, I still couldn't say for sure that I was in another world. Yes, I met and befriended a mythical beast. However, I think that's not enough. I mean, I might simply be witnessing a hidden side of the world. For all I know I could be somewhere in the Bermuda triangle. How I woke up in the body of my strongest unit in a certain game, and how I have access to some of the game's features without a phone also linger in the back of my mind. But now is not the time for that.

Rael's eyes lazily opened as he lifted himself up. He raised his jaw in a short while and released a silent yawn. Not putting much thought into his balance, he soon fell into my direction. Instead of stopping his fall however, he moved all of his weight forward, "so young yet already so mischievous."

I caught the little daredevil with ease and he wriggled closer once he was in my arms. Slowly, his head touched my chin and I caressed his lower jaw in response, earning me a purr. The small act made him so happy he began slamming his pudgy tail to the ground; albeit weakly.

"Good morning, Rael." I said despite having no idea whether the sun was up or not. In a cave void of light, there was only night time. How did I know a week has already passed? Ahem, I made a random guess. "What do you want for breakfast? Except for nether frogs of course; they're too poisonous for you."
