I sped past the halls of darkness with Rael on my back, his elongated jaw resting on my right shoulder. It takes a long stroll to find a monster so I usually give the baby dragon a piggyback ride to his meals. Even with the blood of a powerful dragon running through his veins, taking thousands of steps at a daily basis is no laughing matter. I wonder how Malassa planned to let her son survive if she hadn’t met me.
After some time I detected a presence. When I approached it however, all I saw was an overgrown frog with purple eyes. The uneven lumps on its jet black body gave it a grotesque look and the purple haze its mouth occasionally exuded said all there is to know about its nutrient content. Rael has a different take on its appearance though. In his eyes, the monster three times my size was a delicious looking food that he has yet to taste. Sigh, babies and their curiosity.
Nether Frog – Level 82
Rael immediately tugged my dress and rubbed his face onto my cheeks not only to say he found what he wants but also to make me retract my earlier statement. Unfortunately, his request fell on deaf ears. As a guardian, I would never let my emotions get in the way of giving him a healthy diet. Not that I actually know what’s healthy or not for a dragon. I only know the nether frog is too poisonous for him.
“You can’t eat that,” I shot an oppressive aura to the frog as I spoke, making it run for its life. Witnessing his desired meal get away, Rael looked at me with misty eyes.
I was a bit shaken by the display but that was all. “Don’t be sad. I’ll get you a better meal, I promise.” If I remember correctly, the swamp should be in a different path. How did a nether frog end up here?
There are three paths connected to the large chamber where I first met Malassa. I came from the first one, the other leads to a poisonous swamp, and this is the third one. We’ve been using this path ever since we found out monsters in the second path were inedible and so far we’ve only seen wolves, large insects, and humanoid beasts. Well, with the number of paths branching out of each one, it’s possible that there’s a connection between the two main paths.
On a side note; the first path leads deeper into the cave. The monsters there might be stronger so just to be safe we’ll avoid it until Rael can take care of the monsters here by himself.

Rael lowered his head as I continued running, clearly depressed by his loss. But the sorrowful look didn’t last long as I used my skills in acting to rouse a different emotion.
“Do you hate me now?” I asked with a saddened expression. When I saw him hesitate, I added “I’m only doing this for your own good,” and let tears form by the tip of my eyes. “Please don’t hate me.”
Soon, Rael shook his head and pressed his face onto mine. He tried hugging me to show his affection but his small hands ended up holding me by my almost non-existent bosom. He held the position until I gave him a kiss on the forehead. “I love you too.”
Hearing my words, he let out a happy growl. The joy also made him forget where he was. He slammed his tail down and hit my rear. I could wrestle with his mother with my bare hands so it obviously didn’t hurt me. Too bad his developing mind didn’t agree. He twitched and looked around in panic.
“I’m fine,” I assured him after a light chuckle.
Relieved, he once again stuck to me like glue. It was a bit later when I found another monster. This time it was a humanoid with massive shoulders raised on the same level as its head. It didn’t have a pair of eyes and nose. On its face was only a mouth full of razor sharp teeth and a small hole on each side of its face to act as ears. Moreover, it has arms thicker than my whole body and legs similar to a wolf’s without the hair and with more muscles. Its gray skin was also covered with a thin layer of sticky liquid. It’s without a doubt a ten out of ten in terms of creepiness; at least that’s the case for me.
Cave Lurker – Level 65
I was off the ground by the time it noticed me, my left leg heading straight to its face. I didn’t give it my all to limit the damage to a broken neck.
Its head moved to a dangerous angle with a loud crack. Soon, it fell lifeless to the floor. I took a life and didn’t bat an eye. Something definitely changed and surprisingly - I don’t care.
Rael ran to the corpse and began eating once I dropped him down. I watched as the unmoving body was ripped apart. Even as blood spilled and organs scattered, I wasn’t bothered, only worried that Rael might choke on a piece of bone. I’ve truly changed huh?
I’ve been asking the same question for the past few days so I guess it’s true. I wonder how far this body has influenced my mind. Hopefully it didn’t go as far as to change my preference. Let’s see, would I be fine sleeping with a man- no, it’s definitely a no! Just thinking about it scares me to death!
While I was busy thinking, Rael dragged an entire arm by my feet. Upon seeing what he did, my heart was instantly filled with warmth and my problems seemed to have vanished. “Aww, thank you Rael,” I happily told the baby dragon half my size with a smile.
No matter what happens in the future, I’ll be fine as long as I have Rael.
