Chapter 4: The Ominous Warning
Bucky Finch was enjoying his time with Stacey more than he’d ever imagined. They had fallen into a comfortable routine, sometimes meeting after work to share dinner or simply to talk. But one evening, as they sat in Bucky’s apartment unwinding from a long day, a strange feeling swept over him. The same heavy sense of dread he’d felt days earlier crept back, but this time it was stronger, a dark, suffocating presence that seemed to press down on him.
Just as Bucky was about to brush it off, he heard a faint, eerie voice echoing in his mind. It was vague, almost like a whisper, warning him that something bad was about to happen nearby. The feeling was so powerful and unsettling that he couldn’t ignore it.
“Stacey,” he said, his voice trembling slightly. “I think… we need to leave. Right now.”
Stacey looked at him, concern flickering in her eyes. “Leave? What do you mean?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted, running a hand through his hair. “I just… I feel like something’s about to go wrong. Please, let’s just get out of here.”
Though she didn’t understand, Stacey trusted Bucky enough to follow him. They quickly left the building and walked down the street, away from the area that Bucky couldn’t shake his unease about. The air outside felt lighter, and soon, the unsettling feeling began to fade.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
The next morning, Bucky and his roommate, Richard, sat in the living room sipping coffee and scrolling through the morning news on TV. Richard was half-listening as he flipped between channels, but something suddenly caught Bucky’s attention. The screen showed footage of the very place they had been near last night, now a charred, smoking ruin. The newscaster’s voice reported that a mysterious fire had broken out in the building, causing extensive damage and raising questions about its origin.
Bucky stared at the screen, his stomach churning. It was the exact area he’d felt compelled to leave, the place where he had sensed that something terrible was going to happen.
“Dude, are you okay?” Richard asked, noticing the shock on Bucky’s face.
Bucky nodded, but he was far from calm. “It’s just… Stacey and I were there last night. And I had this… feeling. I don’t know how to explain it, but I felt something bad was going to happen, and we left right before the fire started.”
Richard’s eyebrows shot up. “Wait, are you serious?” He paused, processing what Bucky had just told him. “That’s… really weird, man. But hey, maybe it’s just a coincidence?”
Bucky shook his head, unable to dismiss it so easily. This was the second time he’d felt something strange, something dark, warning him. And this time, it had saved him and Stacey from potential danger.
Seeing his friend’s anxiety growing, Richard put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “Look, let’s get out of here for a bit. Clear our heads, get some fresh air. It’ll help.”
They decided to take a walk through a nearby park, the fresh autumn air and the sight of families and friends enjoying the day gradually easing some of Bucky’s tension. But in the back of his mind, he couldn’t shake the strange occurrences or the questions they raised. Why was he feeling these warnings? And what, if anything, did they mean?
As they walked, Richard kept up a steady stream of conversation, trying to distract Bucky with stories and jokes, easing the tension bit by bit. Though the fresh air and Richard’s presence helped, Bucky knew that the anxiety and curiosity wouldn’t fully leave him until he found some answers.
As they made their way back to the apartment, Bucky couldn’t help but glance over his shoulder, half-expecting another dark feeling to loom behind him.
