“C’mon, let's go, I have my history class now” said purple hair girl

Did she just change the way she talks?

“Now!” I heard her tone change again, *shiver* ‘I'm coming!’ I thought urgently while tripping, then getting up and running to get over to her. What? You didn't see how scary she was when she yelled at the nurse… No  one should make that girl angry *shivers*

{Iona’s PoV}

After arriving at my classroom I have finally calmed down. I rather enjoy this class, we learn how about the cultures across the kingdoms and how our own has grown to be how it is. We can learn much from our past mistakes and how to improve upon them. Anyways, I brought my familiar for now since I was not informed what we should do with them for the time being.

Speaking about him, why is he shivering? Is he cold? I did notice that he doesn't have any fur except for on his head, ears, and feet, but he is wearing clothes…. Hmm. I'll get him to put some decent ones on later.

Ah, here comes the teacher, one of the few ones who treats me decently, professor Alabaster Von Dreich. He comes in starts speaking immediately “hello everyone,” he smiles, then continues “since today is the first day of the year for this class, why don't we have a little refresher test?” To which everyone groans.

I don't mind this that much since I studied the whole time we were allowed to go on break. The hero summoning was pretty interesting to watch this year. While I was thinking about the summoning, Professor Dreich drops the test on my desk and stopped in front of me, and stooped down so I could hear him and asked me very quietly.

“Ms. Iona why is your familiar here? Didn't they tell you where to bring it?”

To that I answered,

“I had to carry him away while he was passed out and no one bothered to tell me…” I said sadly.

“Ah, ok. He can stay for now, but afterwards ask the beastmaster where to bring him” he said, then added smiling after he saw my offended look “I'm not calling ‘him’ a beast, I just don't want you to get in trouble, ok?”

“Yes Sir”

“Don't call me Sir, that's my father,” he said jokingly. Ugh, badly timed.

“Ok, professor Dreich.” His smile faltered for a second at The name Dreich but then went back to normal. He then proceeded to continue passing out the tests.

Speaking about that let’s check out what they are about.

… The history of summoned heroes? *sigh* of course he would chose that. A new batch was just summoned yesterday, well that, and the fact that professor Alabaster Von Dreich was part of the batch from forty years ago. Yes our professor was a summoned hero. He was a history teacher in the other world as well.

...anyways on to the test…

‘I can see why he chose that part of our history to quiz us on because it is quite a major part of it. Our kingdom grew quite powerful and wealthy due to summonings. Heroes from other worlds tend to bring knowledge of things we didn't know and tend to learn and grow faster than we do. They also tend to have the ability to use magic, so all of them become nobles in our world the moment they get summoned.

It is very rare for them to not be able to do so, and even if the can't use magic they still get to keep their status.  We summon heroes every forty years. Why every forty years, I do not know but it might be because limited to how the planets line up, or something like that. The reason why is so we can keep our kingdom strong and safer from monsters. How it is done is unknown to most because it is a heavily guarded secret, understandable since we would want our enemies to have the same ability.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Some heroes in the past have left our kingdom in the past, but to do so they would have to get a magic brand over their hero marking they get when they were summoned. All this does is lessen their strength to a citizen’s level of strength (AN - no game levels, just a way to gage strength).

Sure this weakens them but a few years of serious training will allow for travel to other kingdoms. Plus the brand releases when they are in the event of a near death experience. Our kingdom does this not out of spite, but out of self protection. It would be insane to let someone who might turn against us keep that kind of power.’

...I thought while writing down my answers.

Right after I finished my test, professor Dreich calls out “Ok, bring up your tests!”

To which the class answers with a groan and complaints about not finishing.

“Oh shush, you didn't have to finish it, I just wanted to see how much you remembered,” He says. Then continues while reading through each and every paper, “did everyone watch the newest hero summoning on the mana screen yesterday?” He asked.

Most of us nodded or said yes.

“Did all of you know that it was a very special one? Most of the hero summonings only have six people summoned. Including mine,” he added at the end.

We were all pretty shocked at this, yesterday there were twenty nine heroes summoned and a thirtieth spot which shined but no one appeared. I did not know that, then again information on hero summonings other than the actual event is kept pretty quiet. We didn't even get to watch or hear about when they happened till this year. I'm surprised the professor was allowed to tell us that.

Too be fair he does have more political strength than most of the high ranked nobles… But wouldn't the king want him to be quiet about it…? *sigh* this teacher…

“Seems to me that none of you knew that. *sigh* they went too far with that gag order” he muttered, then continued with “but anyways, as I said before it had a different amount than what was expected. Every four hundred years there is a set of heroes summoned as a set of thirty instead the usual six. The next set of thirty was supposed to be the next set, forty years from now but came early. Another reason why this year’s was unusual was because there was a failed summon amongst the thirty. This has not happened since the very first set of heroes.”

He then said with a smile “gets you thinking about how not everything is perfect and why did this happen, don't ya think?”

“What happened to the one who didn't get summoned?” Said a male student.

“Nobody really knows since there is no way to find out. What they told me, and I hope this is true, is that they get sent back to where they came from. Being summoned is not fun, I won't tell you the details, but being stuck there is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, not even my worst enemy. The targets of the summoning are all orphans, they have no family, except for siblings, which are usually summoned alongside them. So, no one will miss them when they gone. Half the time, it's a way better situation than what they were in. Then there are people like me who get summoned directly after their wife’s funeral,” he said answering the questions and with a sad smile on his face.

We all just ponder over all the new information, some of us going up to the professor saying sorry while he waved us off.
