Fixing things up

Fixing things up

After taking a short rest, with my brother on my back, I searched for the old man’s house. It took me a while but they weren’t kidding when they said it was next to the sewer exit, though the place has seen better days. I knock on the old door to see if anyone is home, no answer. I try to open the door but it is almost rusted shut, i kick it as hard as i can, it opens and i fall back on my brother.

He seems fine, still sleeping though. The house is small and run down, moss covers some of the walls and it smells odd. Not bad for an old hermit house I guess. I found a separate room, it's a bedroom with an extremely old and dry skeleton on it. I'm guessing that was him at some point. For some reason I'm not surprised or scared of it. Looking at it, it seems like it seemed content when it died, sleeping.

After setting my brother down in the room and setting the skeleton in a grave to rest, I sat down next to my brother in the room. I need to sleep. It's been a long night. I fall asleep easily. Everything is going to be okay. We can fix this place anew and live here for a little bit. Check on the village every so often too, I wanna know if our parents and friends are okay, I really hope so.

It's been a few days now, and after raiding the tool shed, we found some tools that seemed absolutely new. My brother was pretty nerdy when it came to tools and told me they were enchanted. Only a preservation enchant. I asked why the enchant wasn’t on the house as well, he said a preservation enchant would be too difficult and take up too much mana, apparently mana has to cover the entire object with no pockets of air to become enchanted. Magic is confusing. Maybe that’s why my affinity is healing magic, it's simple. Though I can really only do first aid.

Construction on the remade cabin is coming along nicely. We’ve checked back at the village and it seems they made it into their encampment. Usually they move on by now, so it's a bit odd. We also found a well nearby with clean water so that helps us a lot. I tried making a rabbit trap for food, and caught a Karkie. Their meat is pretty bitter, but it's food and we need it. I've worked on healing my brother’s arm a bit more, still it's hard to keep focus and hard to use mana, so he still can’t use it at all.

I got attacked by a fire boar, I thought my arm would get burnt up immediately, but after the searing hot pain, for some reason my arm came out unscathed and I embedded the axe in the boar’s skull soon after. I didn’t tell him about the boar being a flame one so that he wouldn’t worry, we ate well afterwards and i felt really full for the first time in a few weeks.

I performed more healing magic on my brother the entire day. If we were going to survive it meant I needed to be able to heal anything. I noticed his arm got infected so I replaced his bandages and put some medicinal herbs underneath them to sooth the pain and help with the infection. I can’t send my magic into his body yet, I might lose focus and accidentally rupture his veins. I was angry at myself for being incapable, he said it was fine, but it really wasn’t.

I learned something new, similar to the boar situation. While splitting wood I got a large splinter and instinctually covered my arm in mana, healing it. Not only did I heal my arm perfectly, it felt as if it was brand new, my muscles were fresh in my arm. I tried to recreate the magic on myself but couldn’t yet. I must train to be able to protect us. If my muscles heal in this way with healing magic and it replenishes my stamina as well, I can train constantly, tearing and rebuilding my muscles. I can become far stronger than I can imagine this way.
