18th Fragment - Reunion

It's raining in Tantoris tonight, which almost covers the whole town. However, this weather doesn't prevent Arisa and her family from going to the family restaurant. Mom didn't really want to cook for this day, so everyone decided to eat out. It's also an excellent change of atmosphere, so no one complied.

Not long after, the Tanjung family's car drove through the rain at a leisurely pace. Father is busy looking at the road with Mom in the front passenger seat and the rest in the back seat. They arrived at one of the most famous family restaurants in the town in less than fifteen minutes.

"Dad likes grilled fish, so this restaurant is his favourite since there's no other place can grills how Dad wants," Mom replied when Vanilla asked why she chose a place quite far from home. Listening to that, Arisa will remember her father's favorite dish.

The family chooses a table on the second floor for tonight. The menu ordered was quite a lot, so the table used by five people had almost no gaps left. Arisa herself is pretty amazed that her father has a high appetite just because there's a grilled fish there.

The sight of Father, usually expressionless, cramming his favorite down is enough to attract Arisa and Vanilla's attention.

"Father is amazing. He can finish several grilled fish at once. Because of that, I ordered more than usual. It's our night out together so don't hold back." Mom gives Arisa more food near her plate.

"I agree. But I think I can't have more," Arisa refused respectfully.

"Vanilla. Come on, eat the others. Mom has ordered a lot, you know."

The little girl obeys and takes more bites that have been on the table. Arisa smiles kindly, noticing that Vanilla still has an appetite left to gulp down more delicious stuff. Perhaps, it's because she experienced how to live at the dam alone, so Vanilla appreciates how many blessings she got now.

For about an hour, Arisa and the others were satisfied with the meal at this family restaurant. All that's left is chatting with each other and finishing the drinks for more minutes before they go home. At that time, Arisa excused herself to the restroom before they hit the road again.

Arisa finishes her business and then washes her hands for a moment while looking at her appearance in a large mirror. Her gaze stared at her own reflection. Something reappeared in her chest as the girl blushed.

Tonight should be cold due to the rain. But my chest's temperature is going up. This phenomenon… I'm really feeling it.

The girl smiled unconsciously. Arisa immediately returned to the table where her family was waiting to go home. That's how it'll go inside her mind.

However, what was in front of him was an empty table that had been cleaned. The Tanjung Family was no longer there except for the staff cleaning the table. Analyzing the situation as she understood what was happening, Arisa ran downstairs hastily.

Arriving downstairs, which was full of people enjoying dinner, Arisa swiftly looked around the whole place. From those occupied tables, the cashier and toilet on the first level and eventually outside the window. It is raining harder than before as Arisa knows that her family's car is no longer there.

The light brown haired-girl let out a long breath. She walked to the cashier and waved to the staff to confirm something.

"Can you see me?" asked Arisa casually.

The cashier is still busy with his work on the computer. A moment later, he looked at his cell phone just a moment before serving the guests who had finished their dinner.

"As expected. He doesn't recognize me at all," Arisa muttered as she walked over to get a better look at the window.

The rain outside looks like it wouldn't stop in any minutes now. If she wanted to go home by taxi, it would be useless because the driver would not heed a phone call from someone who had temporarily lost her existence. Perhaps they'll be confused about why there's a phone call without any voice from the other side.

As far as Arisa's gaze goes, she notices several car headlights going through the road's heavy rain. Basically, there's nothing unusual about the traffic for now. Her choice is to wait for the rain to stop, walk home through the rainfalls using the umbrella provided by this restaurant, or wait for her existence to return without knowing when it will come back so that she can order a taxi.

But she won't pick any of that options.

She walks around the dining area on the first floor to find something else that could be her next option. Her eyes slowly observed everyone who was enjoying their dinner. Some guests enjoy the meal together with their families, filled with laughter and respect for each other. Arisa is sure that a few minutes ago, she must have also looked like that amid her family.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“…”

There is a negative feeling that comes to the surface of her heart. Arisa can't accept why her family left her alone in this family restaurant. She should have had more time with her parents and siblings tonight.

If only my existence isn't disappeared at random times like this.

"Arisa. Hello!"

Someone waves to the girl. When Arisa looked who that was, the blonde-haired man called her to come to his table.

"Valerie, you can see me?" asked Arisa looking in disbelief.

"What do you mean—oh. Let me guess, your records of the past made your existence disappeared again."

"Correct. It's to the point that it's quite troublesome," complained Arisa in a flat tone.

"I can imagine how difficult it would be to be in your position. First, you may want to sit down."

Arisa accepts Valerie's offer and sits across from him. She can see a laptop and a cup of hot tea already in half, along with its teapot about to run out.

"So, care to tell me how you got here alone?" Valerie was curious.

"I'm here because I had a dinner with my family. Then, my records of the past was unstable at incorrect times. My existence is gone and they came home without me."

"That sucks, alright. Moreover, the rain is still so heavy as we know it. How about calling a taxi?"

Arisa shrugs. "I doubt they can hear a voice of someone who had lost her existence."

Valerie raised his eyebrows, "You got a point. Basically, your existence seems to have been erased so it's logical for the others unable to hear your voice. Then, why I can having a conversation with you like this?"

"I suspect that my lost existence only affects natives from this era. I also just found out that you can still see me, Valerie. So, I don't think volunteers from the future are affected by this unstable records of the past," hypothesized the girl with the long brown hair.

The boy sips his hot tea while typing for a while before closing his laptop.

"Soon, I will be picked up by my past sibling. Want to tag along?" Valerie offered.

"Good advice, I—" Arisa's communication ring received an incoming message. So, she opens it by showing her projection screen, "Give me a moment."

"Hey, hey! Is it okay that you activate your ring in this place?" Valerie almost grabbed Arisa's arm.

"My existence is now non-existent. I doubt they can see the screen," Arisa answered while reading the message she had just received.

Still, according to Valerie, activating the communication ring in public is very risky regardless of the situation. However, he doesn't prevent Arisa further while keeping an eye on the surroundings, just if someone notices Arisa and sees the projection screen floating in the air.

Arisa's eyes widen as she read the message. She thinks for a moment before hastily closing the projection screen.

"So, how? Are you coming with me?" Valerie asked, making sure. He signaled a car that had just arrived in the parking lot. Turns out his sibling has just arrived.

"Thank you for your offer. However, my friend will be here in a moment. Please go home first."

"Alright, so that's what the message is all about. Okay. See you, Arisa."

Valerie excused himself as Arisa waved her hand. He quickly runs into the car as fast as possible to not be soaked by the rain. Arrives inside, a woman in her twenties greets him.

"Valerie, do you have a habit to chat by yourself?"

The man raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean, sister?"

"Earlier, I saw you talked even though your table is empty. Is your friend in the restaurant?"

"Ah, that… Did I tell you before that I can see things that shouldn't be seen," Valerie joked.

"Hush! It's not funny, eh."

Valerie's sister grabs the steering wheel to turn the car around and leave the place. Arisa ensured that Rio's friend was out of sight before heading towards the exit. The girl is looking for an umbrella for a few minutes before she sighs softly.

"I'm sorry, but I'll be taking this umbrella," she muttered as she took it from near the cash register.

He pops out a projection display from her communication ring to set up a GPS direction to lead her somewhere. Then, the girl who wears an ice cream cone-shaped hairclip walks out into the rain.

The projection screen floats, following where Arisa walks. It shows a map of the city and the route the girl takes to find the person who had sent her the coordinates. The girl keeps walking no matter how heavy the rain wets her shoes and skirt. She definitely has to meet this person for her own sake.

The address of the sender is unknown and cannot be traced back. However, the sentence accompanying the coordinates really caught Arisa's attention.

'Come if you want to know how to correct your record of the past. You have a trouble of your disappered existence, don't you?'

The girl doesn't have to think twice about taking the offer. Or it could be that Arisa was reckless enough to go straight to mysterious coordinates from an anonymous sender. Obviously, danger lurks from such an obscure source. This girl should have considered the risks if she had gone to that place.

However, Arisa doesn't care. She will do anything to repair her record of the past back to normal.

After a few minutes, the coordinates ended up inside the pavilion of a small garden. As Arisa approaches, the figure stands inside, looking at the other side. She turns off her GPS and enters the pavilion.

"Finally you have arrived, Arisa."

The figure turns and greets the girl dryly—a man wearing glasses with cold eyes covered with a wet hoodie.

"…Johann?"
