Princess Waverly was outwardly a girl of means, but despite living in a castle, she only knew of the floor housing the beds for her family. They locked her inside, because she showed no talent immediately, and was never allowed to develop any. But she wasn't necessarily dumb, she knew how to read. So she was at least entertained with books. She also had hearing well enough to hear her father in his room. now he told the queen" we must keep her pure and ignorant as the driven snow, to ensure peace eternal." And how" her sacrifice will be done soon, on her 16th birthday. We must ensure she never knows, lest the ritual will not be fully successful."
the princess obviously had sense enough to know a plot when she saw one, so she decided to try and escape the castle, or at least hide in a place where her father couldn't find her because she only had 15 days left till her birthday. she quickly changed clothes from a poofy dress to a still long, but simpler dress[she literally only given dresses to wear, so give her a break]
she got an idea from one of her adventure books, to tie her clothes and bedsheet into a rope, unfortunately, she never learned how to tie a knot properly, and ended up falling the last 2 stories onto a decorative bush. "ow, horse-knuckles!" she gets up, leaves still in her hair. tying a discarded cloth around her head as she tries to sneak out of the castle walls, luckily no guards that cared enough to stop her saw her. after crouching through the servant entrance, she sees the capital city of Siparis, the cars whizzing by on the street, after running a few blocks, she stopped to gawk at the city around her" wow, my books didn't cover this." she sneaked onto a train heading for the edge of the city of Siparis. avoiding guards and posters alerting of her "missing" from the castle, all of which were printed soon after she got out of the only building she had known.

just before she got out of the farmlands area surrounding the capital, a child no older than 5 ripped off the princess's head-covering, and shouted" LOOK MOMMY, THE PRINT-SASS!" alerting the local law enforcement, who then contacted the royal guards. Waverly obviously legged it to the forest before the guards could come. the guards still could tell where she went, due to the law enforcement telling them the direction she ran to.
