Chapter 2 - My first steps into reincarnation, or the best pet ever
I still can't understand what happened to me, I look around and try to understand what my parents have been saying, but so far I can only infer that they are reincarnated people like me.
“Ma'am, can you explain what's happening here?” The man I come to call father asked to the nurse that had helped in my birth, she was obviously deep in her thoughts at the moment.
As my vision had slowly gotten good enough to the point of being able to see at one meter distance, I managed to see that my mother was looking at me. Her eyes were fixed in me.
I think she's trying to assess the situation, her eyes are deep brown with some strange shine inside the pupil “Miss Daevas, you are one of the oldest medical experts around this parts of Reincarnia, be honest with us, what's wrong with our child? We can take it” I could almost sense the fear in my mother's words, did I really reincarnate into the right place.
The woman, Daevas, pulled out a strange gem. It was perfectly round like a hockey puck but looked to be made of green glass, approaching it to me all I could see was a number 1 “Well, good news is that he's a reincarnated, you can relax about that Mr and Mrs Diamante”
The woman stored the item back into her pocket “But looks like your son is here too early. He’s only in his second reincarnation. I don't know how he ended here, but it's just that he's not used to the process, he may even lack knowledge of the most basic magic or body control techniques”
The woman pulled another similar object and held it against his forehead, it shone with a weak light before something appeared inside, my position made it hard for me to read much more than the first line and that was gibberish for me.
“Looks like he has a Divine Gift; His soul may be meant for a budding magical reality, I don't know how he ended here, but there's always a first time. For the way he's looking at us, he understands our words, looks like he got the basic language comprehension ability too; his Administrator wasn't unkind to him”
The Daevas kept talking with my parents as I got more used to my body.
It was still hard to move my limbs, my fingers barely had any strength to close and my eyes couldn't see much more than shadows past the mark of a meter. It wasn't long till sleep had conquered me, dozing off on my mother's embrace.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
It has been a few days since my birth, I been slowly managing to communicate with my parents, the pair act incredibly childish for their apparent age. As for age, I was taught that age here usually counted like number of reincarnations over 50, so my parents are pretty young by the world’s standards, Dad's 22 years old and mom's around 21.
I kind of don’t count, but they are rounding up to 1 for my sake.
They have slowly been explaining things to me after they confirmed I understood them and had a 'normal' level of intelligence. So far this is a resume of the most basic rules about this world, Reincarnia:
* Everyone here's been through the reincarnation system at least a thousand lives going on if not more. Most accepted hypothesis’ that life experiences add weight to the soul as they pile up on top of it, each reincarnation wipes that off, but as souls live long lives not all is scrapped off the soul’s surface, with enough experiences the soul starts to remember previous lives.
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
With previous lives’ experiences, it becomes easier to pile more on top, making the soul ‘heavier’ in some way, and this place has a special gravity for souls, making them get attracted and fall to it with each
It’s usually after the 900th life they start having a chance to pop in here, I think that’s where the count for age comes, they are technically adults in reincarnating.
* A soul can't escape from Reincarnia, the same gravity that pulls long lived souls into here keeps them in. So you have a big chance to find people again after their deaths, they will just have changed their looks.
Whatever system is occupied with this place’s souls, is complicated enough that people hardly can guess where they will end.
* For the matters above, there's a window of grace for souls who have just reincarnated, it's not nice when you are reborn under people you hold an enmity with.
* People are not necessary smarter for living multiple times, maybe wiser, but apparently souls carry their knowledge with them, but experiences can muddle through the time, different places, different cultures and people end committing terrible faux-passes everywhere.
It's never nice if you forget that you should bless someone for sneezing or clock them on the jaws.
* There're no schools, Yay! but there're no places to teach new souls the ropes of this world.
It's usually taught by the parents or the nearest town chief, elder, or wise man between other possible professions.
* This place's big, like big big, like BIG big big. To put things in scale, this place has been going from the start of the existence, there're an unobservable amount of universes and realities, meaning that reincarnating souls come to this place in huge amounts. And this place houses all those souls and previous too. Also, calling this place world is just a name, it’s easier to say it’s a plane, a pretty fucked up plane that bends on itself, parts of it have torn off and curled to appear circular, others appear like Mobius strips, etc…
* Souls do have ways to escape Reincarnia.
One can achieve true reincarnation and clean their souls completely; this will erase all of their experiences, removing the weight off their souls and letting them fly off on death.
They can also reach godhood, this will let souls receive Divinity and be strong enough to escape Reincarnia by their own means (Though I been told the Bureaucracy behind gods it's a hell on itself).
And one can be summoned to another world, this usually is only temporary (first option is too, but takes much longer through natural course) souls gravitate back to this place even in life if they are heavy enough.
I think there was more, but oh well, I think that's what I got for all my parents taught me in just a week or so. I feel I'm strongly forgetting about some implications. Oh well, looks like dad just came back to the house. I look inquisitive to the box he's holding.
“Hey Champion, I know you may be having a hard time with all this new stuff, so you Dad decided to get you a pet” He opens the box and out comes a white rabbit, for its small size I would say it’s not been on the world for long “With someone your age you will have at least a friend to rely on, and taking care of a pet it’s always great for your character”
I look at the bunny, cliché ball of fur, white all over except for its red eyes and pink nose.
“Bow Down Before Me Mortal, I'm the Mighty Red Dragon!” An almost squeaky voice comes from the drag...*ehem*...bunny.
And then it hit me. Right, that implication, every soul's a reincarnation, all animals and monster included.
