Prologue: A hero appears?

It was in that one moment that my life turned around. The last thing I remember was an explosion, the flames searing through my body. I remember the pain and I thought my eyes were closing for the final time. But then seconds passed. Then minutes. Then hours. I was still conscious. I’m supposed to be dead. Why am I still conscious? I thought you wouldn’t be able to think much lest feel and breath once you’re dead. Then it dawned on me. I no longer felt pain and death. Instead I felt energized. In other words, I was still alive. I finally opened my eyes to see that I was in a cave. I was laying down on some kind of altar which kind of freaked me out. In this cave there were purple banners hanging from the ceilings and the torches illuminated the room. I’ve never seen these type of flags before. I wonder what nation it is. Then I felt the presence.

“Hmmm… around 20 or so huh”

They all surrounded me as I felt their presence. It was too dark too see, but my perceptions showed me that many of them were carrying some sort of weapon. Probably a knife… no it was longer. What is this? I took my own knife which was hidden around my ankle and held it ready to defend for my life.

“Hello Hero and welcome to the castle of Camelot”

A girl approached from the group. She showed a carefree smile which stood out from the room filled with bloodlust. She had blue eyes and blonde hair. She was wearing some type of cloak that had blue paddings around it. There was even an insignia with a shield and a pair of angel wings behind it.

“Who are you and where am I?”

I didn’t let my guard down as I asked her. She didn’t drop her smile and instead got closer.

“Better stay where you are girl and answer the question. Otherwise it might get messy”

She stopped. Though my threats did nothing to keep her from smiling.

“Sorry to scare you. My name is Marlana. I am the sole advisor as well as the imperial mage under the queen of Wessex”

She took a curtsy which befuddled me. This amount of respect is un-heard of. The more you respect, the more you’d die from those who take advantage of weakness. I inched away from her, knowing that it’s probably a trick.

“Ok Marlana. Now tell me. Exactly where in the hell am I”

“You’re in the Kingdom of Wessex. We are currently residing underneath the castle of Camelot”

She then stepped aside and pointed towards a door.

“If you would follow me, the queen would like to talk to you”

Queen. Now this is getting strange. Just where in the world am I. Also, how is there even a queen? The last time I’ve known about a queen was twenty years ago when I found a book that talked about the principalities of medieval Europe. I really have a bad feeling about this, but what choice do I have. I slowly made my way towards the door. Off course the knife was still in my hand and my perception is at its max. I learned never to trust anyone, especially the masked men who surrounded me. They only carried staffs after I looked even closer. I could take these guys in a fight, though it made me wonder if these guys actually think they can fight a Mordeux with these puny things. The scenery then changed. As I Pass the door a grand hallway welcomed us. It was filled with the same banners I saw earlier. Paintings of many kinds could be seen and marble pillars reached towards the roof. A gentle aroma teased my nose as I smelled the wonderful fragrance of meat and bread. On the corner of my eyes, I saw fountains decorating parts of the walls. Many had designs with animals and others humans.

“…”

I kept silent. There was a fresh supplies of food and water that I could see. The world was dying outside yet here, these people seemed to be living lavishly. They seemed to have everything, even a roof. I gripped the knife tightly, my anger seething forth.

“I don’t know why you’re mad, but please refrain yourself. We are about to the see the queen”

The girl rebuked me, though she looked as if she understood. I quickly calmed myself down, knowing that my anger can only lead to mistakes. We arrived at a double set of oak doors. There was two knights standing guard in either ends. Knights. Like actual men in armor. Both men could be seen holding a spear and a shield. They look terrifyingly strong, yet I knew I could probably take them. Still it’s surprising to see knights in this day and age. The knights first saluted towards the girl and then opened each of the door. This girl seems to be of great importance.

“Well time to meet the queen. Oh and before we go in”

She pointed her staff at me. Before I could react a small glow appeared on my hand. My knife instantly disappeared and reappeared on her hand. I was shock. Just how did she do that? Magnets? No it couldn’t be. Just what is with this world? She looked very smug looking at my surprised face.

“Well, I can’t have you going in there with a weapon. Who knows what will happen”

She then smiled before suddenly disappearing. She was gone just like that.

“My queen, the hero has appeared”

I looked through the door to see that the girl was over there. I just stood there, my eyes in shock.

“Excellent. HERO. PLEASE COME BEFORE ME”

Before I knew it, two knights appeared. They both started to shove me forward. First time meeting and I’m being shoved. Yeah, I’m not taking this. As I fell to the floor a rolled to the side and instantly got on the knights blind side. I then kicked the man’s leg and pulled his spear backwards knocking him flat on the ground. The other knight took a quick jab, but I managed to pin the tip of the spear with my elbow. I then kicked the shaft breaking it in half and karate chopped the knight in the back of his neck. I’ve already analyzed the armor. Its weak points were the links that connected the parts. Because I hit the weak link on his neck, the knight immediately lost consciousness. I stood there, the pointed part of the spear in my hands.

“SURROUND HIM. MA…”

“ENOUGH”

A man wearing lavishing clouds started to yell out commands but the queen immediately stopped him. The queen looked young. She was wearing a grand dress and was adorned with a crown made of jewels. She had silver hair which seemed to sparkle and her green eyes showed overwhelming intellect. She was smiling as she looked at me.

“Well, I think you managed to summon a hero worthy of being called a hero. I congratulate you Marlana”

The Marlana was now smiling. The queen continued to look at me though.

“Sorry about my Men and thank you for not killing them. I suppose they need to be trained in restraint as they showed none today. Moving on to you though, let me personally say welcome to my kingdom. They call me Artura, queen of the Wessex, Ruler of…”

“I’m sorry to interrupt but what exactly am I doing here?”

I quickly interjected. I’m still confused on this whole place. I don’t even know why there calling me hero. The queen first looked at me then at Marlana.

“Did you not explain to him what’s going on?”

“Um….. I may have forgotten due to my excitement my liege”

Marlana tried to look cute in front of the queen. The queen was smiling though her eyes weren’t.

“Where going to have a long chat later, ok Marlana”

I felt the cold tone in her voice. I was really surprised that a girl of her caliber can raise the ends of my hair. Marlana too seemed shock as she was shivering all over. The queen then looked back at me. Those green piercing eyes were studying me.

“Sorry about my subordinate. I will explain. Right now my kingdom is in peril. The demon army has been besieging many of my cities. Other human kingdoms are preparing for the war, but it is my kingdom that is at the forefront”

She beckoned to one of the people. The man bowed and instantly pulled a lever on the side. A huge map un-scrolled itself above the throne. It was a map of a land I’ve never seen before. Its shape was like an hourglass. There was an assortment of circles and triangles that could be seen on it. Another man gave the queen a long stick which she began pointing on the map.

“We are located above this choke point”

She pointed in the middle where the choke point was at its greatest. A symbol of a castle could be seen.

“As you can see, the demon continent and human continent are separated by this choke point”

She kept going on and on about the current situation of her kingdom and how the demons were slowly taking a foothold, but I had no interest in that. Instead, reality seemed to be dawning on me. The more she talked, the more she said summoned hero. Summoned, as in I was summoned to another world. I read something like this. It was called a novel or something. It pretty much showcased a person being transported to another world… this couldn’t mean.

“Are you saying I’m in another world than my previous one?”

The queen stopped for a moment and smiled.

“Yes. Haven’t you realized that already?”

It’s exactly as I thought. I was no longer in the same world. That’s why this place seemed to have an enormous amount of materials. Even the walls were made of marble, a building material that was destroyed during the fourth war. I couldn’t stop myself from shaking.

“Madame, I believe the hero is in shock. Look at him quiver”

“Oh, indeed. Hero, I am very sorry for taking you away from your world. If you want, I can…”

“I’M FREEEEEEEEEE!”

Everyone jumped away from me. I don’t care though. I was finally away from that accursed world. No more raids. No more barricades. No more problems. I was happy. I felt as if a huge weight was lifted from me. I can no longer worry about the dreaded attacks from those blasted creatures. In a new world, I can finally start a new life without fearing my death.

“What is wrong?”

I looked around the room. Everyone was looking at me with curiosity.

“What do you mean, you’re free?”

I looked at the queen. She seemed to be in confusion. I gave her a smile.

“It’s just as you hear. I’m free from the shackles that binded me to my death. No longer will I fear living. HAHAHHAHAAH”

I felt great.

“Well, since we have freed you from this “binding,” you will assist us in fighting the demon race will you not?”

Her smile grew even bigger. Fighting the demon race would be easy, but I have better plans now that I know I’m in a world that didn’t spawn the Mordeux.

“Hahahaah… sorry but I can’t”

The queen looked at me like a deer in headlights.

“Can you repeat that, I do not think I have caught what thou have said”

“It’s exactly as I said it. I can’t fight the Demon race… Rather is it ok if I can have some land and some money?”
