Chapter 26: Meanwhile at the Comic Con...

Leonard stalked through the busy vendor aisle with the eyes of a predator. The vendors would only make eye contact with him for a moment if he lingered at their table long enough. Not because of his tall stature or the whimsical curled mustache he routinely twisted the end of as he looked over their goods and certainly not because of the large GI Joe tattoo on his forearm only because if he lingered there long enough they assumed he had a question or a purchase in mind.

"This Batman issue 5, you have it for three dollars, I'll give you five but only if I can have this issue 4 as well," Leonard announced.

"Bro, issue 5 is worth three, and issue 4 is worth fifteen according to the latest Wizard." The vendor shook his head and said, "I'd do twenty for those two and issue 6. That's like five dollars off."

Leonard waved him off, "I see you have a Batman: Shadows of the Bat 83 for twenty-five, let me have that for the twenty and you have a deal." He held out his hand his GI Joe tattoo on full display.

The vendor frowned and then looked around a bit before saying, "Fine, deal."

They shook hands and then Leonard walked quickly away from the table with a sneer on his lips, 'Idiot, as if I'd even care about Batman issue 4 or 5 when you had a first appearance of the Huntress as Batgirl hanging there.'

The vendor watched Leonard walk away and chuckled to himself, 'Idiot, I bought that issue 83 from a kid for five bucks half an hour ago.'

Leonard walked back to his own vendor table and took the issue 83 he just bought out and showed his friends, "Check it out, picked this up for twenty!"

"Duuuude! Sweet, is that the first appearance of the Huntress as Batgirl? That's gotta be worth at least thirty, right?" A short portly man with an Iron Man hat practically drooled.

Leonard smugly tilted his head back jutting out his chin, "Twenty-five in the latest guide, but I expect that it's gonna climb with the popularity of the Twilight Batman movies."

Leonard sat down behind the table admiring his latest conquest. As he twisted one end of his ridiculous curled mustache a skinny lanky man walked up to the table in front of Leonard and softly spoke, "You cheated me out of three thousand dollars."

Without looking up Leonard replied, "All sales are final."

The skinny lanky man reached into the fanny pack at his waist and pulled out a black pistol and shakily held it in his hand pointed at Leonard, "I said, you cheated me out of three thousand dollars. You told me my Godzilla was worth thirty dollars when I brought it to you. But you are selling it for three thousand."

Leonard sounding annoyed sighed and then said, "Do your research before you sell, that's part of collecting."

The skinny lanky man frowned and then raised the gun higher, "I'm going to kill you."

Leonard finally looked up and noticed the gun for the first time he gasped and said, "Look man, it's just business. I have to buy low and sell high, that's how I stay in business!"

The skinny lanky man pulled the trigger. The shot was louder than Leonard imagined a real gun would be and the bullet felt like he was hit by a large hot rock. Everything went black a moment later. As his vision went he saw that he was falling. Leonard hoped that he wouldn't fall on any of his collectibles.

Leonard started dreaming about walking through the convention and finding all of the most expensive comics in history being sold by clueless idiots at unbelievably low prices. Once in a while, he'd hear voices telling him that it was going to be ok and to hold on.

He gasped as he woke up and felt his chest. Was it a dream? He knew something was wrong right away. It was too dark to be a hospital room and his body felt wrong. He called out, "Hello? Where am I?"

His voice sounded strange to his ears. It was too high-pitched. He searched around for a light switch in the dark unknown room. After falling off the bed he managed to scramble up to his feet. He felt around and finally found a light switch.

With the lights on, he realized that he was in a strange room, possibly a nice hotel. His center of gravity was off so he stumbled over to the bathroom. He was startled as he saw a strange woman looking back at him. It took at least a few minutes for him to come to terms with the fact that the woman who was looking at him was him. He was staring at his reflection in a mirror.

After staring at his reflection for a good length of time he finally made his way out into the main room and turned on the television. A shooting at the comic con would be very big news. As he flipped through the channels he finally found one showing news and it left him completely floored.

"Superman was sighted in downtown Gotham this morning..." The TV showed a superman cosplayer Leonard had never seen before slowly landing at the entrance to the police department carrying a man dressed in Talon cosplay.

His eyes opened wide at the sight he spoke out loud in his higher-pitched voice, "Wow, those are great outfits. Most real-looking cosplay I have ever seen..."

"In other news billionaire, Bruce Wayne released a statement a few hours later stating that the Wayne Foundation would be doubling down on its pledge to the Gotham School District and would insure that their teachers will be the highest paid in the tri-state area."

Leonard reached over and switched off the television and started to laugh. He clenched a fist and said out loud, "I transmigrated. I fucking transmigrated to the DC universe! I'll be like a god here!"

He looked down at his new body and laughed, "No, not a god... A goddess!"

His head suddenly filled with strange memories giving him a pounding headache. He stumbled over to the bed and collapsed into it. It was like living a different person's life from beginning to end. Her name was Shannon Leonard and she was an assassin.

Diana confidently walked out of the large conference room her long stiletto heels clicking on the tiled floor as a tall handsome gentleman chased after her, "Diana! Can I have a moment of your time?"

She stopped and turned to him with a smile on her face, "Yes?"

He adjusted his tie and brushed a hand through his perfect hair, "I was wondering if we could have dinner tonight and maybe discuss my father's annual donation to the museum?"

She smirked and asked, "Shouldn't I speak with your father about his donation?"

He cleared his throat and answered, "Well, yes, I suppose, look I just want to ask you out to dinner..."

She chuckled and shook her head, "Well, I'm sorry I actually already have plans this evening with Bruce Wayne."

He looked defeated and sighed, "Bruce Wayne? I see, well than I won't hold you up any longer Diana."

Diana gave him another smile and turned back walking away once again. The tall handsome man watched her leave the lobby and took out his phone, "What happened?"

His face went dark and he said in a lower tone of voice, "I don't want excuses, I want results. Activate them all if you have to, I won't tolerate failure." He hung up and then called another number, "Father. It's Henry. Our man failed. Yes, I understand." He hung up his phone and slipped it back into his pocket and then adjusted his tie. A smile appeared on his face and he walked in the same direction that Diana just walked.

A pretty blonde lady walked up to him wearing sweat pants, a ball cap and a t-shirt and asked him, "Hi, are you Henry Wycliffe?"

He smiled and answered, "Yes I..."

She raised a pistol to his face and pulled the trigger twice shooting him in the face and then aiming at his body once it hit the ground and shot him twice in the heart. People in the lobby screamed and then chaos ensued. The pretty blonde disappearing in the screaming crowd.
