"I Am The Hero"
Chapter 5: Book

Chapter 5: Book

After a few months, I am now six months old, or somewhat close to seven months old.

I was finally introduced to something like oatmeal. The grueling days of being breastfed are finally over. Well, I can’t really say I didn’t like it…. what I am a healthy teenager, or used to be one.

I have explored this other world… By that, I meant our house. Well, I am still an infant, so I can’t explore the world beyond our house.

The house is decent, like an average house on earth from the Middle Ages. It has a few bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. I guess it's a bathroom; I still haven’t entered it, but I can see my parents going out of there, always soaking wet … I wish it's from the shower, and I wish there was a modern toilet…. What I said is that it’s an average house.

I saw my mother using magic; it was fire magic on the tip of her forefinger. She uses it whenever it's dark. I want to grow up as fast as I can so I can use magic and become a powerful hero like in those novels, for this is a world of swords and magic.

There’s been a few days where one of my parents tries to teach me how to speak.

First, my father said “Pa-pa” a few times and left.

Next was my mother saying, "Ma-ma.”

I think they are teaching me to say those words as my first.

It was another grueling moment in my life. They often visit me and have done that for the past few days.

Well, I had enough. For today, I have decided to speak up tomorrow. If I ever want them to stop doing this, I have to do it the very next day.

The sun has finally risen, and now’s the day I speak up. They usually visit at the same time around this morning.

I can hear their footsteps from afar. Their coming.

My father was the first one to enter my room, followed by my mother.

My father talks to me like usual and asks, “How’s my cute little Gabriel? ”

His asking this of me even though I still haven’t spoken a single word yet. I bet he's expecting me to say the word he’s been teaching me for the past few days.

I need to open my mouth and say something for them to stop visiting me at random times just to disturb me from staring at nothingness or sleeping.

I opened my mouth, and I could see my parents’ faces filled with joy as they anticipated for me to say the words they’ve been teaching me. And then I say, "He-ro.”

My parents’ faces turn into a puzzled look, and I can see the disappointment on their faces.

“Why hero? ”My father mumbles to himself with a puzzled look.

He looked around and saw a book with the big title, HERO

“You damn book!! ”He grabs the book and raises his hand as if he’s going to throw it a thousand miles away.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

My mother stops him just in time and says, “Look at the bright side, honey; he knows how to read, which means our baby boy is A GENIUS!”

“You’re right, he is a GENIUS”

I can see them both dancing in joy.

Oh God, what have I brought upon myself?

A few more days have passed, and now my mother is teaching me how to say more words. She uses the book that once angered my father. I thought they would make me do something worse now that they know I can read, but my mother just instead suggested to my father that she will teach me how to properly read and talk.

Well, the book that was about to be thrown was a picture book of a fairytale of the hero's adventures, saving the world from the demon race, sealing them, and making the world peaceful once more.

I love the book; it fills me with determination to become a great hero, just like in this fairytale.

It’s been several weeks since then.

I don’t really like it when my mother teaches me words that I already know, for they have the same meaning as those on earth, or is it because of the skill I have chosen that it has become so much easier for me to understand what she teaches? But there are times when she teaches me words using storybooks about the fables or tales of the hero that saved the world, which I can’t stop listening to.

A story of the hero and his companions, composed of people of different races, going on a journey to defeat the Demon Lord.

I am kind of curious about the other races, especially the demons, so I am going to ask my mother about them.

“Mama, what are the other races? ”

She smiled and happily answered, “There are elves, dwarfs, and beastmen as the common races; there are also races that are told in myths, especially the dragonkin and great spirits; they are all classified as demi-human.”

“Can you tell me what are they?”

“These demi-humans are like us in appearance, but there are characteristics that can determine them from demi-humans to humans. Elves have pointy ears, dwarfs are short, and beastmen have a bit of the characteristics of an animal; they all have their specialties. Elves are good with archery, and it is said that they are the guardians of nature, and with that said, they are supposed to be one with the spirits who thrive in nature. While dwarfs may be short in terms of height, they have strong bodies that are far superior to humans. They are also known as the best blacksmiths in the world because it is said they have far more advanced technology than any other race. The beast-mans are the most powerful in terms of pure strength, and a lot of them rely on their raw power. That is why they don’t usually use magic, and they can maintain a beast form, making them even more powerful than before, but at the price of going out of control, called ‘berserk’.”

“What about the dragonkin and the great spirits? ”

“Just as I said, they are classified as myths, for not many can say that they are real; some say they are. But there is no evidence; only the one who witnesses them can say that they are real. It is said that the dragonkin are descendants of the powerful ancient dragons that were said to have been living at the beginning of time. They are dragons that have so much mana that they can change their form, which they usually take in humanoid form. Great spirits are said to be the very elements of the world, like earth, fire, water, wind, light, and abyss; it is said that they also take humanoid form.”

“What about the demons? ”

“Hmm, demons, you ask. They can be classified as myths that are used in storybooks as villains. It’s said that they are vicious creatures that destroy everything in their path, and some take on humanoid form so as to trick the other races; they all have powerful mana. It is said that a single demon can easily defeat each group of other races. With that kind of power, all the other races united against them and sealed them away.”

Huh, demons are classified as myths? But Being XXX said that they are gathering so much mana that it upsets the balance of the world. I need to think this through, but I think my eyelids are getting heavy.

Gabi looked at Gabriel, who was fast asleep.

“Oh my, look at the time the sun has already gone out; it’s time for Gabriel’s bedtime.”

She carried Gabriel back to his room.

Cock-a-Doodle-Do

Five more minutes…. Wait, it's already the next day!!
