By the time the cat woke up, it noticed it was not in the location where it previously slept in. Instead, the cat was in what looked like a grassy plain. Confused, the cat looked up to see its surroundings, the only it saw was the green grass waving as wind passed through all around it. The cat, confused, chose to walk in the direction of the setting sun.
After what seemed like an eternity, it eventually reached upon a tall tree with pink flowers growing off of its branches. It was surrounded by many different flowers and plants. The cat neared the tree and placed its right paw onto the trunk of the tree. After holding its paw there for a few seconds, it walked around the tree to see something engraved into the tree, however it was illegible. Under the carving, there was a stone with a small heart, no bigger than the cat’s paw, carved right out of it inserted into the ground.
The sun had now set covering the plain in the darkness of night. The cat turned around to see a faint light in the distance. Sprinting towards that light, it eventually reached a wooden cottage. The cat could see a single shadow flickering through the window of the cottage.
Jumping towards to the window, the cat hit the wall creating a small sound. In the cottage, there was a figure on a wooden chair that pointed towards a fireplace. As they heard the sound, the figure turned to see the cat through the window. The person had white hair as well as facial hair obscuring the other features of their face. However, the visible eyes of the person felt completely empty as they stared at the cat.
The person stood up and walked towards the cat and picked it up. The cat, unable to move, allowed the person to take it into their cottage. The person went to their chair and place the cat on their lap as they watched the flame flickering in the fireplace. The person stroked the back of the cat and spoke while keeping their gaze on the fireplace.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had company. I wonder if you are alone as well. Maybe you lost your loved one or you just ran away from your owner.”
The cat looked up at the person inquisitively and meowed. The person looked down and smiled.
“Even if you meow at me, I won’t be able to understand you. Well, I don’t think you understand me either.”

The person suddenly stopped stroking the cat as they frowned.
“Can you listen to my story Mr. Cat?”
The cat continued to look up at the person as they spoke their tale.
“Long ago, I was once one of the handsomest and most talented men in my hometown. Everywhere I walked, there were always people admiring me and saying I was the hope of their village.”
The eyes of the person flickered in what looked like remembrance as he raised one hand to their mouth and chuckled.
“There was only one person who did not even acknowledge me. She wasn’t by any means beautiful or talented. One day, I found her near here, sleeping right under a tree.”
The person looked up at the ceiling.
“I was surprised, you know. This place was really far away from the village by foot. In fact, that was the first time I ever been to this place. I walked right up to her and tapped her with my feet. When she woke up, I asked why she was here and guess what she said.”
The person held the cat up and looked directly at the cat’s eyes. From the cat’s perspective, it looked like the person’s eyes had fire in them. The person laughed and said.
“She looked at me with disdain and annoyance in her eyes and said ’This is the only place where nobody bothers me, well at least before you came’ before walking back to the village never even looking back. I was dumbfounded, you know, that she would look at me as if I were a bug trying to court her. I think this was when I first gained an interest in her.”
The person sighed and looked out the window before getting off the chair and putting the cat down. The person chortled and stroked the cat before saying.
“Maybe I’ll tell you the rest of the tale tomorrow morning. Be sure to get some rest Mr. Cat.”
The cat stared at the person as they got up and walked their bed and falling asleep. The cat continued staring at the person until they started snoring when the cat jumped on to the window.
It saw the moon highlighting the tree with pink flowers growing from the branches like a spotlight. It stared out for a few seconds before going back inside and settling itself in a corner before falling asleep.
