ONE

A bright flash of light, a loud piercing noise, the smell of burning rubber, an intense force and then- nothing.

His eyes opened and he found himself in a void, he tried to turn around but he found that he was locked in place. As his silent struggle continued it was abruptly ended by a sudden feeling of lurching forward. If he had to compare it to something he felt like a scrap of metal being sucked in by the largest magnet in the world.

As he hurtled through the void his speed picked up increasing proportionally with his discomfort and rising panic.

Suddenly he saw distant pinpricks of light come into view, it was as if they had suddenly appeared in front of him, perhaps it was the other way around but he wasn’t of the mental faculty to ponder such matters currently.

Most of his thoughts were occupied by prayers and expletives. He had died, of that he was quite certain. He had been hurtling through what he believed was space for the better part of 20 minutes and had enough time to give it some thought.

He had been sent to hell. He wasn’t a good person, but he also wasn’t a BAD person. Was it perhaps because he had been agnostic? Not tying his fate to the true god.

His internal crisis slowly melted into acceptance after another 3 days of hurtling through space he had passed through 2 stars since then. At first he had thought his soul had been launched through the earth down into hell but surprisingly he passed right through the star as if it wasn’t there -and quite quickly at that, just about 50 seconds.

Now he was quite sure that this wasn’t the afterlife, he struggled to recall the events before his death but all he could recall were muted feelings and faint concepts. He remembered his name though -Wyatt Lee.

Wyatt Lee spent another period of time moving through space, far shorter than the first few days he thought, but he could feel his sense of time wasn’t the best after so long with no reference of time.

His view was abruptly interrupted by the appearance of a screen.

The sudden appearance of the screen in his face was a pleasant and confusing surprise, Wyatt had barely registered what the screen said before he felt the pull change directions slightly and increase by over a hundred fold.

Previously he knew he had to have been going ridiculously fast -wherever he was going- but it felt serene in a way. His current speed felt like he was going to tear apart space itself, actually he was pretty sure he was breaking space, cobalt blue cracks were visible in the periphery of his vision.

And just as suddenly he started to slow down, he felt as if the universe had been revolving around him and had come to a grinding halt.

In front of him was a massive planet, well all planets are massive and he didn't have much scale except for a distant sun he saw and… was that EIGHT moons?

The planet itself was similar to Earth, in that it had an ocean. Wyatt wasn’t really into space but he was pretty sure not a lot of places had water right? There were 3 distinct continents he could see, the bottom half of the rightmost continent looked like it had broken off into dozens of islands.

As he gazed upon a sight he had never thought he would see in person he felt a rising feeling of awe at the beauty of it.

Unfortunately his reverie was broken by another screen

Beginning Shard Grafting Process

A pain like no other assaulted his being, he felt like he had just been taken apart and the atomic level and then he was put back together, but everything felt like it was in the wrong place. He was no longer in front of the planet, he was inside of it. More accurately he could feel that he was the core of the planet. His senses were overwhelmed as his consciousness slowly permeated across layers of the planet.

Another screen appeared in front of him after a short while.

[ Birth of a new system ]

Your soul has been deemed compatible with a system shard.

As a System you must continually expand the known realms and purge any corruption you come across.

This event is nonreversible.

That was a lot.

A new System?

Hey wasn’t the script wrong? Aren’t I supposed to be transmigrated into a prodigious orphan? I’m the system? THE SYSTEM? Isn’t this too overpowered?!

Shock turned into confusion which turned into disbelief. As his consciousness slowly finished permeating the world he had been able to unveil the fog of his past life memories. Wyatt had read web novels and seen anime. He quite enjoyed them in fact. The sudden turn of events left

his mind reeling, both due to the truth of fiction he once enjoyed and also his apparently broken existence.

A rush of sensations filled his awareness along with the system updates. The planet that he had viewed from above he now saw from within. Although he could now view the whole planet if he wished it was more of a passive viewing similar to a map but with a lot more information. His more “active” sight allowed him to see everything in excruciating detail. The world was teeming with people he couldn’t just see but he could feel them, their footsteps, their heartbeats as well as what he inherently understood to be life force energy and qi.

That was a lot to unpack. Qi? So he was in a cultivation world, at least in his new repertoire of knowledge he was aware of other energies such as mana but that same knowledge allowed him to understand -and feel- that this world was void of any mana whatsoever and Qi seemed to be the dominating energy. For a System it didn't matter what sort of energy was present, only the purity mastered.

The quests he received also came with a fresh repository of new knowledge in his vast mind. He couldn’t just absorb energy as he pleased. Although basically All-powerful systems were limited with the influence they could exert upon the world. Any direct influence was a massive flashing NO sign. Not that he couldn’t do so if he wished, just that the thought of it brought upon a great foreboding that he had the faint feeling would result in severe consequences.

That was also where access level came in, higher access level would allow him to exert more influence and would be the limit of system rewards and quest difficulties that he could assign to his users, and in return he would have to accomplish any goals he had through them.

It wasn’t a bad deal in all honesty -not like he would complain even if it was more strict. This was the best sort of transmigration/reincarnation scenario he could hope for. He was basically playing on sandbox mode!

He directed his active sight upwards and marvelled at what he saw. 8 mountain peaks rose up into the sky piercing the clouds, each peak had a winding staircase carved into it and at the peak of each were imposing marble buildings and expansive courtyards, lush greenery decorated the mountain peak and he could sense gardens teeming with qi.

It was a genuine cultivation sect! Imposing Gold lettering in a strange language decorated the entrance and despite not knowing it he understood it “Heavenly Dragon Sect” a bit arrogant if i do say so myself! His sight allowed him to see the cultivation of everyone in the sect and could see that the strongest in the sect was only at the mid stage of nascent soul realm, there were three other nascent soul individuals but 2 were early stage and one had the scent of a fresh break through he could tell it had barely been a decade. Wait what? Hes line of thought stumbled as he wondered how he could tell and as he focused more on the strongest person more information appeared

[ Bo Fu ] (Common) (Weak) Add User

Age: 783 years

Mid stage Nascent soul: 40%

Cultivation technique: Dragon Spiral Whirlpool (Common)

Martial technique: Eight Trigrams Dragon Palm (Common)

Physique: Unawakened (Uncommon)

As he read the profile he was pretty disappointed. Just one Uncommon? Weak rating? However as he quickly scanned a few thousand more people he realised the problem wasn’t with Bo Fu but the shitty rating system the panel gave. Everyone he scanned was (weak) with those below golden core being (Extremely weak) and he hadn’t seen a single thing beyond common rarity besides Bo Fu’s unawakened physique. Mentally sighing he went to add Bo Fu as a user. He had given it a few moments of thought and decided it was best to get the strongest guy in the locality as a user so he could quickly farm energy.
