Chapter 5
[MC] was in a terrible mood. He was glad to be alive, but on the other hand he wished he had died. He didn't like having to owe others deep debts.
It reminded him of the college debt that took forever to pay off.
His thoughts were interrupted by Morgan.
Master I am glad you ate all better now.
[MC] didn't respond, but Morgan could tell he was livid with her through the bond. He was coming to terms that Morgan feeding him whatever she did caused him to ingest deadly poison. Now he had to pay off a big debt.
Master is everything all right.
And he didn't respond. His frustration at Morgan accidentally getting him poisoned was making him upset. He paused to talk to her.
Right now, I don't want to talk to you for a bit. I have piled up a debt that I have little or no hope of paying off within the next 10 years. Please just leave me be for a while until I get my thoughts together.
As you wish master. Replied Morgan.
[MC] just sighed as made his way into the adventurer’s guild.
It only took him a few minutes of waiting there. Adventurers were mingling around. They gave him wide eyes at his appearance. One adventurer spotted the bracelet and then began to mock him. Others soon joined in. He just ignored him as he made his way to the reception area.
A small girl with cats ears approached. “Welcome to the Riverland adventures guild. My name is Tiara. How may I assist you?” She asked.
[MC] just sighed as he showed her the bracelet.
“Apparently, I owe a big debt to the elf healer here in town. I was hoping to get this paid off as soon as possible…” [MC] said with a grunt.
“Ah, yes, the debt adventuring program I see. There are a lot of high-ranking adventurers who can help you here. First thing I'll need to do is access your skills.”
Tiara pulled out a crystal ball as she spoke again. “Just touch it and it will tell what your best suited for.”
He did as she asked. The ball glowed and brought up his choices for jobs were listed as ‘Error’.
Tiara frowned at the message as she pulled out a manual. She turned the pages as she found the correct page.
“I haven't seen an error message before. So, what do we do with anyone who is given that message. Is either going to be tasked as a porter or gathering quests. Unless you are willing to show your skills and classes openly. We know most adventurers don’t want to show their stats.”
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
He was worried about revealing his classes. He wasn’t sure if someone would use him so he spoke to the receptionist about his summon Morgan.
“Ah, we heard about who you were describing. A lot of people tried to hunt her down worried she was some kind of new threat. If you can confirm that she is indeed your summon I’ll cancel the quest immediately. I’ll warn you a lot of people went for the bounty If the quest is cancelled. Prepare to have a lot of enemies.” She gave him a grim warning.
Not wanting to lose Morgan even though he was mad at her still. He pulled up his status to show in fact Morgan was his summon. Tiara reviewed it and confirmed it. She was quick to cancel the bounty on her.
“Well looks like 300+ adventurers are going to be upset the quest was cancelled all of a sudden.” She replied.
The look on his face made her reassure her no one would be told why the quest had been cancelled. Anyone who assisted him as well was oath bound not tell any secrets about other things as well. Anyone who asked about it to any of the staff ended up forgetting to protect the skills and classed of adventurers.
He just hoped she was right. For now, he decided to go for gathering quests. Since it looks like Morgan would only be joining in the later future.
He just nodded. While asking if it was okay to take gathering quests. He let Taira know the elf healer was okay with payment for gathering anything with healing materials.
She was quick to put in his request. She pulled up a system to check for priority debt adventuring quests. Most of the quests were low to mid pay.
[MC] mulled over the choices before picking one. The quest paid a good bounty for its choice. 1 gold coin for every 100 ores gathered. The quest was a high priority one. It required mining sulfur ores near a sulfur spring. The trip was dangerous apparently. The most recent gatherings to the area were disappearing. The guild had sent an investigation team to check it out but couldn't find any clues. Many believed it to be the work of dark magic or experienced slavers.
[MC] picked the quest while he decided to communicate with Morgan. He was calmed down enough to talk to her.
Morgan are you there…
Yes, I am her Maseter.
I am sorry for dismissing you. I am just upset of my current situation. Hopefully, I can gather enough gold to get out of this. Also, I found out there had been a bounty put on you when you had arrived. I have taken care of the issue so no one knows except the receptionist. She told me that any secrets are kept secret and can not be revealed to anyone.
As [MC] finished talking to Morgan a tall wolflike human approached him. The person spoke out to him in a soft tone. “Are you [MC] by chance. I have come to assist you with your debt collection.”
“Yes, that is me.” [MC] spoke as he looked at the helper. She was about his height around 6 feet. She had orange fur and hair that was silky smooth as he looked at her. Her shined a bright blue like the daytime sky. She wore leather armor with two short swords sheathed on her hips.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Clara. I’ll be assisting you with any quests you take. My rank is A. Hopefully, by completing this I can finally move to rS.” She started to trail off in thought.
[MC] just shrugged as he shook her hand. Well at least I have a someone who is devoted to me at least.
A few hours later [MC] met up with Clara to get his quest going. It was going to be a bit of a hike to the location. The ore deposit was located about 2 days away from the distance. Clara had gotten a wagon with a two horses to get them there. She had brought on another helper who turned out to be her sister Jana. Jana looked like Clara except she had brown fur and used knives.
The group loaded up at the adventurer’s guild as they prepared to depart. Clara was getting the last of the supplies together while Jana was in the driver’s seat holding the reins of the horses.
“That should be everything.” She said as she loaded the last crate in the back of the wagon. [MC] got into the back while the two took to the front. They quickly departed as they left Riverland. The sky was still young as they left.
