Chapter 7: Turning it into Prime Real Estate

Chapter 7: Turning it into Prime Real Estate

Lawrence’s face twitched.

Could you honestly, in good conscience, call this a house?

The roof had caved in at one section of the house and the wooden door had rotten clear through, so much so that when Roland attempted to laugh off Lawrence’s concerns about the viability of this house and opening the door, the door collapsed where it stood.

Even Roland was having a hard time with this. He did not know that it had gotten that bad. Sure, at most just a leaking roof or a broken window, but now that they were here, this was ridiculous.

Jacob had loaned Lawrence a wagon to bring back all of the Hero’s Bounty, something that Lawrence accepted as he did not want to show people that his bags of holdings were probably capable of storing everything in this town and more.

“Ah well, just a few hours of patching up and it should be as good as new!” Roland forced a smile and Lawrence laughed bitterly.

“We both know that’s not true,” Lawrence replied and Roland shrugged.

“Hey, welcome to a small town life,” Roland said, waving his hand and walking off before Lawrence could argue with him.

“I’ll be back tomorrow to see what you need, Honourable Lawrence Carstein!”

With that, Lawrence stared at his home, or well, what seemed to be his home. With Roland gone, Lawrence was now able to fully explore what he could do.

Taking stock of his inventory, Lawrence knew that he had enough resources to rebuild this house completely. He had actually thought of just creating furniture but since the house was in this state, he may as well be a bit more ambitious.

Opening the construction mini icon, he could see a variety of choices. To do a test, he picked Comfy Couch as the item.

The counter for the creation of the item floated out, 3… 2… 1…

In his pouch was indeed a Comfy Couch. Taking it out, he could see that it was exactly as it was in Ever Dawn. In fact, it was rather comfortable, what with the velvet lining and fur blanket that covered it.

“Then let’s see…” he moved to the house and touched the wall, and a menu popup appeared.

“Are you sure you wish to delete this building?”

Lawrence selected yes and just as he blinked, the house disappeared.

Examining the Buildings tab, he could see a ton of things that he used to construct back in Ever Dawn, from Barracks all the way to Granary.

“Uh…” Lawrence scratched his head, looking at the tab, Manors, as it had an exclamation mark on it.

Apparently, the new update had added new buildings to it and Lawrence selected the one that seemed to have been the most popular, at least until he left the real world.

A three-story manor house complete with a garden that allows you to grow the most curious herbs! Surprise your guests with the dancing fountain at the entrance. Comes with a wine cellar, six bedrooms, two studies and a massive library. Cosy and grand are how everyone would describe it! Completely furnished at 500,000 GP!

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Lawrence had about 20 million GP in his inventory so it was no big deal and he selected it. Suddenly, he saw the outline of a building, and rotating it slightly, he confirmed the placement.

Without a sound, the manor house popped up in front of him and true to the description, the only sound emanating from the area was now that of a fountain that sprayed from one end to one end of itself.

Resources Detected in your Domain!

An alert popped up and Lawrence realized that in the immediate area, it had been turned into his domain, much like how Ever Dawn recognizes that a certain plot of land is a player’s.

Iron deposits detected. Would you like to construct a mine?

Lawrence narrowed his eyes and selected yes.

On his minimap, he saw that the compass glowed towards the east, which was probably where the mine was built.

In any case, he now had a proper roof over his head. However, as he stared at his house, he scratched his head and opted for the refund button. As the house disappeared, Lawrence found one that looked almost exactly like the one that he had deleted earlier, just that it is filled with rosewood furniture and trinkets that would place a king’s treasury to shame.

The reason for opting for the less showy house was that he would have a hard time explaining to Roland how on earth he constructed a house overnight.

The door was a brown door, nothing too fancy, but it had the emblem of an owl engraved on it. His character was in a clan called the Valour’s Owl, hence the owl engraving on the door, but it did not matter so much now, does it?

Entering the house, was a dining table, decorated with a fruit basket on top, as well as cutleries and chairs for five.

The kitchen had a stove, some firewood beside it as well as a large basin which no doubt was for Lawrence to use to draw water for.

In the living room was a comfortable couch large enough for three as well as two other single seater couches, a coffee table with a tea set and a fireplace in front of it.

There was one bedroom that had a large bed in it, probably Queen sized, with a canopy red in colour, almost as if this bed was made for royalty to sleep in. Beside it was a dresser in which Lawrence found contained a lot of clothing of the era of fine quality, to his size.

Beside the bedroom was a large bathing tub, with tiled floors. Lawrence thanked the gods that his character had Create Food and Water so that he did not have to lug buckets around in order to cook and bathe.

There was an armour stand in the room where he took off his armour and hung them there, leaning his sword against the dresser. With that, he took a towel and after creating some hot water, took a bath.

As it was evening, Lawrence had gotten tired as well as hungry, but cleanliness first, he could just eat the dry rations that he had always carried around on his character. Maybe he should buy some chickens and use his Farming skills—

Right, currency.

Lawrence wondered how different the gold coins in use were compared to the ones used in Ever Dawn.

He sank into the bathtub, noticing now how he looked like from the reflection of the water. He looked exactly as David Brooks had. Brown hair, large green eyes, a prominent nose and jawline.

Ah well, it was another world anyway, nothing was supposed to make sense.

Climbing out of the bath, he picked a black velvet shirt, as well as matching long black pants that reminded him of those regal nobles in shows like Tudor.

He had already sorted out his Hero’s Bounty through the inventory transfer system. Then, he remembered that Roland had given him a bag of coins. It was a normal leather pouch, nothing of particular note.

He poured out the bag’s contents on the table in front of him. In it were two gold coins, five silvers and eighteen coppers.

The gold coins had the emblem of a sword with wings, while the silver coin had the emblem of a clenched fist. The copper one, on the other hand, had that of a shield.

It was obviously very different from the coins he had. Wouldn't this make his currency worthless outside of any Ever Dawn purposes?

He pocketed the coins and then saw that the coin counter had gone up. Lawrence was delighted. This meant that even if he had different coins from this world, it counted towards his total wealth.

This meant that if he somehow managed to convert his total wealth to that of the currency of this world, things would function as per normal.

In other words, he is filthy rich.
