Third Person POV:
Gon looked at the reward offered. His wisdom was at 2, which was his weakest stat. By completing the current challenge, not only his wisdom would go up, but his perception as well.
"I wonder what's the difference between titles and classes, though?"
Gon just shook his shoulders and let that matter rest for now. His current goal was to awaken his nen under the recommended circumstances provided by the challenge.
There were mainly two ways to awaken nen. To be able to use nen, people first needed a feel for it. The two main methods to gain nen sensitivity were as such:
Firstly, suffer one nen blow or an aura attack from nen users. It was the fastest method. However, it was also the most dangerous. Bearing nen attacks without protection would leave one injured or maimed. In severe cases, the recipient would die.
It was the method Gon used to awaken his nen in his past life. Wing, Biscuit's disciple, helped both Gon and Killua awaken their nen through this method when they reached the 200th floor of the Heaven's Arena.
Gon didn't fear this method, but he couldn't use it where he was now. He didn't know of anyone residing on Whale Island who could use nen.
The other way to awaken nen was to meditate and slowly feel one's aura. This method could be extremely long and tedious. And for people with no one to advise and correct them, the process could take a long time. It was why nen manuals were also essential. The hunter association restricted the diffusion of nen to the masses. People who learned nen were either underground dwellers, hunters, or those acquainted with nen masters.
However, for someone like Gon, who had his past life memories, using this method would be a cinch.
Gon thought back to when he faced Gido. With one small mistake, he would have suffered critical damage by his spinning tops. Thankfully, in this life, he didn't have to face the same dangers when experimenting or training.
"Well, enough recollection for today."
Gon walked to the foggiest area he could find and began his meditation. The mist around this waterfall was unusually thick, so Gon didn't mind the cold.
A few hours later,
Gon finally managed to feel the energy around him. It was just like in his last life. It felt like a thin layer of clothes that protected him from the cold.
At the same time, Gon finally received a notification:
Challenge Completed!
-Awaken Nen inside a foggy forest
Rewards:
Title Description:
Ethereal Priest: Rank E
-Rewarded to the holder for awakening nen inside an elusive and cold place.
WIS+2/PERC+2
Skill acquired!
Nen: Level 1
STR+1/FIT+1/WIS+1/DEX+1/PERC+1/CHA+1/VERS+1/COMP+1
Nature:
Enhancement Nen: Level 1
STR+5/FIT+5/DEX+1/PERC+1
As Gon read about his new title curiously, his gaze stayed on the Level 1 Enhancement nen skill.
"Wow!"
"This skill is completely different from the other ones. +5!"
"I don't have any reason to doubt the numbers provided by this strange box anymore. People with enhancement natures specialize in sheer body strength. I can feel the power rushing through my body right now as well."
"Haa!" Gon screamed and punched the ground with full strength. He left a significant imprint on the grass.
"I might be as strong as I was when I left the Island before now."
"Let's look at the skill description!"
< Enhancement Nen: Level 1 -People of the Enhancement category can use Nen to improve the natural abilities of their bodies and objects. Of the six Nen categories, it is the most well-rounded. Just by training their Nen, Enhancers can deliver powerful attacks without the need to develop special deadly techniques STR+5/FIT+5/DEX+1/+PERC+1 "Hmm...is enhancement nen that cool? I still feel like transmutation can be better." Gon had always felt a bit envious of Killua's lightning skills. "Let's see…" Gon says as he opens his status menu to check on his current abilities. < The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Status Name: Gon Freecs Titles: The Fisherman, Ethereal Priest Classes: Gambler Statistics: Strength: 3 (6) Fitness: 3 (6) Wisdom: 4 (1) Dexterity: 7 (2) Perception: 11 (2) Versatility: 4 Composure: 2 Charisma: 3 (1) ----------------- "Hmm..what do these brackets mean? I'm not too good with this stuff." "Let's use nen and see If there's a difference." Gon tried another angle. < Status Name: Gon Freecs Titles: The Fisherman, Ethereal Priest Classes: Gambler Statistics: Strength: 9 Fitness: 9 Wisdom: 5 Dexterity: 9 Perception: 13 Versatility: 5 Composure: 3 Charisma: 4 ----------------- "Well, those brackets disappeared now? Nine is higher than 3 for sure. 9-6 equals three, alright; I think I get it. I need to use nen to get that +6 then. Easy equations, easy equations, haha. I'm not that bad at all." Gon said with a bit of smugness. "Such a shame still. I wish I could awaken a different nature. I don't want other hunters to call me a simpleton again." Nen masters believed people with certain personality traits would awaken specific nen natures. Transmuters, for example, were all considered to be whimsical liars. "Nen allows me to tap into all the different categories with adequate training, but I would still learn slower than them If I tried to perform actions related to that specific nature. Is there no other way around it?" "I remember Biscuit telling me that people with enhancement natures had a good affinity with transmutation and emission. Does that count as a skill? It isn't shown in that status box, though." Gon really wasn't resigned. "Let's look at the challenge box and also that shop. Maybe there's a solution there." Ten minutes later. "I can't keep scrolling randomly like this." Gon wasted ten minutes trying to find information about nen categories. He first went inside the challenge hall submenu. The challenges available seemed to be related to his current needs for some reason. So as he scrolled, he quickly found some titles related to nen. However, he didn't find any skills. Gon finally noticed the difference between skills and titles when he awakened his nen. Titles all had ranks, whereas skills had levels. He saw that challenges never went higher than grade SS+ The ranks divided as such: Rank F +3 (Total Bonus) Rank E +4 (Total Bonus) Rank D +5 (Total Bonus) Rank C +6 (Total Bonus) Rank B +7 (Total Bonus) Rank A +8 (Total Bonus) Rank S- +9 (Total Bonus) Rank S +10 (Total Bonus) Rank SS+ +11 (Total Bonus) He thought it was odd since his enhancer nature provided such high power-ups when he had yet even to practice it to an acceptable level. Gon understood at that moment that skills could mature, but titles could not. The ranks were fixed and could not go higher than that. When he made that discovery, he quickly left the challenge hall. What he was looking for was a skill, and that submenu only offered titles. There was no way other nen natures couldn't become more potent. Those were skills. Now he was inside the shop submenu, but the things offered inside weren't suggestive like the challenge hall. As Gon scrolled through a bunch of stuff he wasn't interested in; he realized how big the shop was. "That list is endless. I need to find a way to search for what I want." Gon looked around for a few seconds before he noticed the empty box at the top right corner. He clicked on it and found that there was a blinking line inside. What appeared next was a board filled with words. "Sounds like one of those typing machines that aunt Mito loves to mention. I guess I should buy her one when I get the money. Should I use this?" Gon typed "Transmutation nen" and waited. Half a second later, the screen showed plenty of results. As he scrolled, he finally found what he was looking for: < Skill Cost: 8.000.000 Jenny Type: Energy Group: Nen (nature) Transmutation Nen: -Transmuters can change the properties of their aura. Some Transmutation abilities copy the material properties of real objects and elements. DEX+5/STR+5/PERC+1/WIS+1 "Yes! Still, that price is a bit hurtful." Gon was glad as he learned that the shop traded nen natures. But his enthusiasm cooled after he discovered how much cost the skill. "It's good, but it doesn't enhance stamina. I guess that's the real advantage of enhancers. They become human tanks when they master nen." "Transmuters have a good attack power, though. Well, too bad. Another reason to make money then." "Let's forget about the shop for now. All these are luxuries; after all, It's not a groundbreaking discovery that you need money if you want material comfort and security." "The very reason why I want new nen natures is so that I can learn or create faster skills from nen natures I don't possess. Shouldn't that wisdom attribute help me in that regard?" < Wisdom: the capacity to grasp abstract concepts, think, learn faster, and feel with more creativity. "I didn't read that wrong. I guess I should try to upgrade my wisdom then." Gon decided but returned home before beginning his quest for titles at another time. ....................................... A week and a half later, "Those titles are a lot more convenient than I thought they would be. It's difficult to get the higher-ranked ones, but these things seem to stack up nicely. Too bad that for some reason, I can't adorn more than three simultaneously." < The Fisherman: Rank F -Rewarded to the holder for fishing the "lord of lakes." DEX+1/WIS+1/PERC+1 < Ethereal Priest: Rank E -Rewarded to the holder for awakening nen inside an elusive and cold place. WIS+2/PERC+2 < Star Child: Rank F -Rewarded to the holder for gazing at midnight stars for ten consecutive nights WIS+2/PERC+1 Now his current stats looked like this. < Status Name: Gon Freecs Titles: The Fisherman, Ethereal Priest Classes: Gambler Statistics: Strength: 3 (6) Fitness: 3 (6) Wisdom: 6 (1) Dexterity: 7 (2) Perception: 12 (2) Versatility: 5 (1) Composure: 3 (1) Charisma: 3 (1) ----------------- As Gon continued to practice Nen, he realized how vital wisdom was. Now he didn't have any doubts left concerning this dimensional box and its effects. The speed at which he learned nen was incomparably fast. He was able to emit an energy ball without even having gone through Biscuit's intense fundamental nen training. His comprehension was enhanced, and he was able to tap into other nen categories like Killua used to with ease. "I guess my wisdom must have been terrible in my last life." Gon admitted as he resumed his nen training. ………………………………………………… Two months later, Gon was just done with his training that day. His Enhancement Nen had reached level 2 a week ago. < Enhancement Nen: Level 2 STR+6/FIT+6/DEX+2 As he closed the window and prepared to home, Gon heard the sound of a familiar voice. "Kid, who taught you nen?"
