Chapter 16 Part 3: 287th Exam x Pokkle

Third Person POV: Gon

“Let’s put that inside the storage for now!” Gon thought and smiled as he retrieved his friend’s briefcase and the cigarettes from the nearby pipe.

He had to slow his pace down to become dead last for a few seconds. He didn’t want Leorio to ask him questions when his belonging suddenly popped out from nowhere. Since he couldn’t use nen, he would have too many questions for now.

Gon wasn’t sure that Leorio couldn’t see Nen. A few ordinary people can see the energy before they are taught. The man was already fighting through exhaustion. It wouldn’t help either of them if he were to witness such a strange occurrence and got distracted.

Oddly enough, none of the items he accepted from the ominous collection of shadows were soaked.

As he peered inside his storage, Gon marveled at the usefulness of the status box once more:

<

Storage:

-Briefcase x 1 (Citta Eclettica-Editione Sontuoza/Stagione di primavera)

-Chocolate box x 5 (Kukanyan Relish-Hazelnut pastries)

-Combat knife x 10 (Steel Hunter-Hades series A1)

-Kitchen knife x 43 (Steel Hunter-Gourmet series/Menchi B5)

-Bull shark x 1

-White shark x 1

..............

The inventory function alone was a priceless advantage. In all the years he used the box, he never struggled with a maximum capacity. It even appeared as if he could put as many things inside as he needed. He couldn’t put live things inside, but nothing stored decayed.

His submarine adventures in the ocean were proof enough. Even, to this day he still had two sharks left inside.

There was just so much he could do with this miraculous box…He would need to study it properly. Killua was a bit more knowledgeable than he was.

Once the exam was over, he would need his help to figure it out in detail. It indeed resembled the unique game design of Greed Island in particular ways.

But before they could do any of that, they would need to clear an unpalatable hurdle at the end of the exam.

That stalker was not going to make things easier for him in this new life. It was a crystal clear fact since he wasn’t ready to cause irreversible harm.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Even with his current strength, that mountain counted as a colossal backing. And if it wasn’t, he didn’t know how his best friend would react to him hurting that person.

No matter the scenario, revealing that man’s identity too early would not play in his favor. The guy only needed to take his relative home. Gon, who had yet to establish a strong, trusting bond with Killua, would be the loser. If he did so, he would be labeled as a stalker as well.

From Killua’s perspective, today was their first meeting.

“I need to catch up!” Gon, who had been reading and thinking in silence, couldn’t see Leorio anymore.

He closed the storage window before speeding up like a cheetah.

287th Hunter Association Exam,

Phase One, Underground Marathon,

Four hours and fifty minutes in,

Leading runner: Satotz, Distance run: 77km

Distance remaining: 5km

“How long till we arrive?” Kurapika asked. Even he started to feel weary after seventy-five plus kilometers. He had already removed his tunic due to the underground heat. The air was scarce, so he needed to cool down.

“I don’t think there should be more than ten kilometers left. We have run for almost five hours now If I’m right.” Gon directed his gaze at his right and replied.

He was running with Kurapika now. Leorio seemed to have gained some incomprehensible energy after he cheered him up. Right now, he was too busy taunting and arguing with Killua at the front of the mob.

He suddenly thought of something after he looked at the sweaty Kurapika and asked before he retrieved something from his storage:

“You want some cool water, maybe?”

“Don’t joke around, Gon!” The feminine-looking blonde did his best to answer graciously. But after running this long, he couldn’t maintain the facade he used to interact with strangers.

When he noticed the change in his tone, he directed his gaze at the kid apprehensively.

“Hehe.” Contrary to his worry, the boy just grinned and continued to ask: “Do you want some, or not?”

Gon ordered him to turn his head right for two seconds. The blonde executed himself obediently. He was frugal with his body functions at the moment. Using his brain would consume energy somewhere it wasn’t needed.

“Thanks.” He said after he took the water and some chocolates from the box Gon retrieved in secret.

“Ask if you want more.” The boy proposed.

“How did you do that?” Kurapika was surprised but didn’t seem completely shocked. He enjoyed a bit too much the freshwater before asking:

“How is the water so cool?”

“That’s a neat trick for sure, boy.” Someone pitched in from Gon’s left.

“But do you know how many ‘Red Pine Squirrels’ are left hungry because you choose to buy those overpriced chocolate bars?” The person finished with a sarcastic tone. He didn’t even care to hide the disdain on his face.

The man was not very tall.

In terms of height, he probably had one head over the boy and wore white pants, a white shirt, and a red vest.

This nosy guy had shoulder-length brown hair, and a light purple cap covering it. He had a quiver of arrows across his back, completed with a bow.

The boy wasn’t sure who he was. His face was familiar, however, as he seemed to have been one of the participants who quickly hunted boars during Phase Two.

Gon ignored his pungent remark and probed his information as a habit:
