The stats went up quite a bit. He was satisfied. With confidence he left his room and went outside to meditate and train. He used his bow to improve his skills and started to think what was ahead of him. To go to the town was quite exiting, but the main reason he wanted to go was another thing. His father had told him that there was a library, and this library should have a lot of useful information.
After training he went at the back of their house and packed everything he wanted to sell onto a little carriage, then he went back into the house and met his father who just had prepared his own things for the market. His father smiled at him and they both started to wander to the little harbour town. When they entered the town and passed through a big wooden gate, he saw the town. It was an old beautiful town which was like the medieval town in history. Most of the houses were out of wooden and stone. Just a few houses had glass in the windows and the door were out of wooden and metal so they were quite heavy. The Street was mostly mud and clay. Just the centre of the town had stone on the ground. In the middle of the town was a big temple and tall building which should be the residence of the mayor. On the seaside was the little harbor of the town. Despite being a small harbor it was quite packed with ships. From small fisherboats to big war ships like frigates.
The people wore long robes, hats which were sometimes bigger than their heads and the shoes out of wooden and leather. Some people wore armour and weapons but that was only a minority. The most people in the town were sailors and fishermen. Who wore something similiar to tshirts and jeans out of cloth.
People were busy walking, trading, cursing and talking too each other. The atmosphere was good, and the people smiled which indicated that the town was flourishing. The only thing what was suspicious was the amount of guards in this little town. They patrolled through most of the streets and the wall was full of them. So Ragen asked his father: “Dad, why are there so many guards in this city?” He looked a bit surprised at Ragen but then answered: “There is a war ongoing in the northern continent and this island has an important position in the ocean which is at the border of one of the involved countrys. So there could be an attack on this island.” Ragen knew nothing about the political situation in this world and that was something he had to change as fast as he could.

After a short walk through the town they reached a piazza in the centre of the town. Here were already a lot of different merchants who sold all kind of goods. He saw herb merchants, slave dealers, magic traders and much more. They placed their carriage with the goods into a corner, where already a lot of merchants were, who sold food and clothes. Then his father explained how he had to sell his animal skins and meat. After a short explanation about the methods of selling his father also told him about money in this world.
100 copper coins were 1 silver coin.
120 silver coins were 1 gold coin.
10 gold coins were 1 emerald coin.
Because meat was rare in this world it was quite expensive. It costed around 50 to 60 silver coins per 5-pound meat. And the fur of the deer wasn’t cheap too. The cost for that was around 100 to 120 silver coins. Just the rabbit fur was cheaper then the rest. It was around 10 to 20 silver coins.
After the explanation he started to yell about his prices and his goods: “Good fresh meat, just hunted yesterday. Beautiful furs, best quality.” Even though he cried with all his might the other merchants were louder, and he felt like nobody heard him. But he didn't give up and used his skills from his previous life as a salaryman. He had always been a devoted worker and that wouldn't change. Around two hours later, he had sold to his surprise most of his goods. The meat of the wild boar and the deer was sold to an old chef. And the fur was sold to a merchant.
With the new money in his pocket he asked his father, if he could go to the library. His father thought a moment about it and then let him go. An excited Ragen walked to the library. It was one of the only buildings in the town which was entirely out of stone and the windows contained glass. The stone had a gray colour and the roof was packed with red bricks. The front door was gigantic, and he was relieved that the door stood open. He entered the building and was amazed. He stood in the middle of a small hall and the whole hall was packed with bookshelves. There was even a first floor which was packed too. A few guards watched the people from the entrance and the books. In the middle of the hall was small counter. An old person with a long gray beard was seated behind the counter and read a book. There were some tables in the corner of the hall. Where some people sat and read books, even some kids. Especially one young boy was eye catching. He wore some expensive clothes and studied his books.
Ragen ignored the people there and went to the bookshelves. He just picked one book out of the shelf and went to the table to start reading it. He opened the book and wanted to start reading it, when he noticed something. He couldn’t read it. It was a completely different language than back on earth. He started to panic. How should he learn, if he couldn’t even read a book? The rich boy who was siting on a neighbour table saw his panicked expression and came to him. He asked Ragen: “You can read, don’t you?” Ragen looked at him and didn’t know what to say. Before he couldn’t stutter a lie, the boy said: “I like you. You know, I can teach you to read and write if you want?” Ragen hesitated, he didn’t want to own this boy something, but he needed information and he never saw his parents read or write anything, so he suggested that they were not able to write or read either. This was his only choice. He nodded. The boy said: “Good, my name is Victor, remember it. Now shall we start?” Ragen whispered his name and then watched how Victor opened the book and started to explain the letters. He learned fast and before the darkness of the night came, he already could read most of the letters in the book. Victor was quite pleased with him and said he should come again tomorrow to learn more. Ragen agreed and went back home. On his way back, he heard a cry in a small alley. He was curious what was going on and saw a boy around his age. The boy stood with his back to a wall while two big guys blocked his way. They said angrily to him:” Shut up you little beggar and pay your debts or die.” Ragen knew he had to do something fast or these guys would do something horrible to the boy. He hid around the corner and searched his clothes for a weapon, but the only weapon he had was his little knife which he had already used in the forest against the boar. He always hid it under his clothes for an emergency. He readied himself and then walked into the alley.
